    This episode of the stoic – the invincible soul podcast is inspired by Wayne Dyer’s book, the power of intention. There is something within us which is our spirit or our soul. That spirit is connected to something bigger than ourselves. It is connected to that which caused us to be as well as everything that is in this vast universe. We are as a result of that thing expanding and expressing itself. Some people call that thing God, others call it spirit, some call it source or the universe and doctor wayne dyer, who was the author of the book, the power of intention called it intention. He described it as a field of energy that is expressing itself in all that it creates. So if source, intention, God or the universe is the whole, then we are a piece of that whole. And as humans, we are also given a tool to enable us to function as we were intended to function and this tool is the mind. Our minds are a powerful tool. With the mind we are able to think, we are able to store information, we are able to project into the future and we are able to function in our community, and carry out the purpose for which we were created. But what the mind also does is that it forms an identity for itself as a by product of it functioning. This identity is based on the job it does, the things that it perceives as it’s accomplishments, and the type of reception it receives around it. It puts people into roles and categories, and it has expectations from people based on the roles that it places them into. And when these expectations are not met, it holds onto feelings of anger, annymosity, hatred, revenge etc. And in cases where the expectations are met, its shows love, kindness etc. But that identity perceives and acts towards the world based on the reception it receives. This identity is the ego. And the problem is that, we falsely believe this identity to be who we are. But fundamentally that is not who are. We are the spirit the resides within us. we share the same DNA as the spirit which caused us to be. And our true characteristics are the characteristics of spirit. At our core, we are kind, we exist in abundance, we are loving, we are compassionate, we are creative, and we are generous. When we separate ourselves from spirit and allow the mind to lead us, that is when we exist and operate from a place of lack, a place of hatered or a place of anger because these types of emotions are incompatible with who spirit is.     Jack Canfield said; My belief is that the whole purpose of life is to gain mastery—master our emotions, our finances, our relationships, our consciousness—through meditation . . . things like that. And it’s not about the stuff. All the stuff can be taken away. People lose their fortunes. They lose their reputation. Beautiful spouses die or leave you. But who you become in the process can never be taken away. Never. You are mastering through the process of overcoming these obstacles that you face in life. And Oprah Winfrey said; As you think about what lasting fulfillment looks like in your own life, know that the divine force at work within all of us has a bigger dream for you than you could ever imagine for yourself. Success comes when you surrender to that dream and allow it to lead you to the next place. In his book, Man’s search for meaning, Victor Frankl outlined three areas in our lives where we find meaning. We find meaning in 1- Our vocation, 2- In love, and 3- In suffering. However, we live in a society where we are often shamed for suffering. Ms. Edith Weisskoff-Joelson, a professor of psychology at the university of Georgia said, “Our current mental-hygiene philosophy stresses the idea that people ought to be happy, that unhappiness is a symptom of maladjustment. Such a value system might be responsible for the fact that the burden of unavoidable unhappiness is increased by unhappiness about being unhappy. And she goas on to say that the theory of logotherapy may help counteract certain unhealthy trends in the present day culture of the united states, where the incurable sufferer is given little opportunity to be proud of his suffering and to consider it ennobling rather and degrading so that he is not only unhappy but also ashamed of being unhappy.” There is meaning to be had in our suffering. Instead of avoiding or escaping suffering through sex, drugs, alcohol etc, we should be encouraged to embrace our suffering with dignity.     Seneca said, until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We've been using them not because we needed them but because we had them. And Epictetus said: Remember, it is not enough to be hit or insulted to be harmed, you must believe that you are being harmed. If someone succeeds in provoking you, realize that your mind is complicit in the provocation. Which is why it is essential that we not respond impulsively to impressions; take a moment before reacting, and you will find it easier to maintain control. The question I want to pose to you today is simple: What are you led by in life? Are you led by your fears? Are you led by the opinions of others? Are you led by the need to fit in? Are you led by a situation that seems impossible? Is life just happening, and are you just going along with it?                  Or Are you led by core values and principles you believe in? Do you have a grand vision that is shaping the decisions you make about your life?      The stoics will advise you to contemplate your own death. I know this is one topic we all like to avoid. Living is good, death is bad. That is what we have been taught to believe. However, death is one thing we are all destined to experience one day. It is the number one certainty in life. It is also a journey you go on, on your own. No one can go with you. And when that journey comes near, and you look back at your life, what would you want that life to have looked like? What is the one thing that will make you take your last breath peacefully? What is the one thing that would have made it all worth it? This thing, this vision, is what should be guiding your life.      Because when that day comes, what the world thought of you will not matter. Whoever or whatever stood in your way will not matter. The only thing you will be left with is you and your conscience. Are you led by your fears? Are you led by the opinions of others? Are you led by the need to fit in? Are you led by a situation that seems impossible? Is life just happening, and are you just going along with it? Or Are you led by core values and principles you believe in?     I am not here to advise you to be unafraid. We all feel the emotion of fear. There are things—some more than others—that terrify us all. You are entitled to feel fear. However, the question that I want to pose to you is this: who are you outside your fears. If the things that terrify you did not exist, who would you be? What would you do? I am here to encourage you to break the chains of your fears. And to walk freely into the life that you would rather live, and do the things that you would rather do if the fears did not exist. Because you can! There is a powerful you that is buried underneath your fears, and I am here to help you unearth it. Marcus Aurelius said: “It’s time you realized that you have something in you more powerful and miraculous than the things that affect you and make you dance like a puppet.” And he was right. You are more powerful than the things you fear. However, if you allow it, your fears can prevent you from living. They can set the confines for you, and create a limit in your mind of how far you can push or go. Your fears can design for you a life that you do not want, and a life that you would not choose. In the absence of fear, there is freedom. There is liberation. You are able to feel in control of your life. And you are able to focus your energy and efforts on what really matters to you. So ask yourself : who I’m I outside my fears, and take the steps to be exactly that! 5 Helpful Tips In Dealing With Fear 1- Live with it. Yes, contrary to what you may be inclined to believe. The way to overcome your fear is to learn to co-exist with it. The sensation of fear is uncomfortable. It is frightening. And we all have the tendency to try to avoid it. However, by doing that you feed the fear. You help it grow. Instead, learn to sit with the emotion. Recognize the emotion as fear. Label it as such, and allow yourself to feel the discomfort. Be practical about it and do exactly what you would do if the emotion did not exist. Do what you would do if there was no voice in your head giving you a list of all that could go wrong. 2- Be a mentor to yourself. In moments when you feel fear, more often than not, you know what you would like to hear. You simply wish someone else would tell it to you. So why don’t you tell it to yourself? You know how you would like to be consoled. So why don’t you console yourself? 3- Think of the worst case scenario. Again, this is another tip that sounds counter intuitive. But by allowing yourself to think of the worst case scenario, you help reduce the power it has over your mind. Whatever you resist, persists. There is a very high probability that the worst case scenario will not happen. However, by actively forcing yourself not to think about it, you increase its gravity and power in your mind. 4- Practice meditation, yoga or any physical Activity. These activities help center you and bring your mind to the present moment. 5- Ask yourself these questions: 1- Is the thing fear happening to you right now? 2- Is it something you anticipate will happen in the future? 3- How often have you accurately predicted the future? 4- Even if you are 100% accurate that the thing you fear will happen, why rush to meet the future? Tell yourself who you would be outside your fears, and then be exactly that!

Who we really are is the spirit that is within us. We find ourselves in a lot of trouble when we listen to the intelligence of the mind alone. For anyone who ever achieved anything great, that person had to go through his or her fair share of tough times. However, sometimes those difficult times are necessary for our growth. Those times come our way to get us to pay attention so that we can let go off old thoughts, belief systems, relationship and patterns of thinking that do not serve us. Sometimes those tough times come our way because something is dying within us. And we need to let that thing die, so that we can we can create a fertile ground for the greatness that is ahead of us to flourish.     Just like we can form an addiction to things outside of ourselves, we can also form an addiction to our pain. We can form an addiction to our sorrow, fears, and worry. Sometimes you may meet people, and every time that there is some type of negativity going on, they are always there. There are some people that are caught in the cycle of one negative relationship after another. Most of these people know that the negativity and the toxic relationships that they find themselves in may be bad for them, but biologically, their bodies may be addicted to the pain that these relationships bring them. Most of us have a perception of how our life is supposed to look like. We have an idea of how things ae supposed to be like in our life. However, the problem with that is that most of our perception of how our life is supposed to be is borrowed from others. We think if others are happy living that life, then we will be happy if we live our lives like them too. We fail to recognize that we are a unique individual with a unique path that has been set out for us. We fail to recognize that our path to happiness will be different from other peoples path. I believe our intuitive mind serves as a guide to lead us to us to our path. The problem is that, a lot of us fail to listen to our intuitive mind. Mostly our of fear, we ignore the subtle feeling that seeks to point us towards the right direction. This episode explores how we can identify our intuitive mind, and encourages us on how we can listen to the intuitive mind. It also explore how we can use mediation as a tool to clear our mind of negative thoughts so that our intuitive mind will be at the forefront of our thinking. The episodes of this podcast are influenced by stoic philosophy, mindfulness and spirituality. It didn't matter to me if I was too short, too dark, too thin or whatever society perceived me to lack. I felt completely in love with myself. I knew who I was, and i found myself to be beautiful. I felt beautiful on the inside and on the outside. I loved all of me--every part of me. I knew the struggles that I had overcome and I felt extremely proud of myself. I also felt grateful to God for seeing me through each and everyone of them and making a way for me every single time. To me what that meant was that, I didn't care what the next person thought of me.
