Often referred to in yoga as Maya meaning Illusion The formation of beliefs is what he calls the Domestication of Humans. From a young age, we didn't have the opportunity to choose our own beliefsOnce we begin to question our thoughts and the origin of our beliefs, we are able to free ourselves from the fogWe begin to live as our Authentic selves and leave the Dream that was layered on by the world around We can develop a new belief system that gives us the freedom to measure up to who we want to be rather than that of the Mitote and Don Miguel Ruiz offers us Four Agreements as a path to Personal Freedom. Check out today's Episode for a summary of Agreement #1: Be Impeccable with Your Word.

Real Men Feel #265 8/6/22 Don't Always Push | 3 Life Lessons Over the past two weeks, I've done a lot of clutter clearing and overall cleanup. My home can get pretty nasty after ignoring it for over half a year, but I attacked the basement and garage today. I started with the basement, liberated the world's most ignored furnace filter, and then on to the garage - clearing trash, cobwebs, and random garage shit. I was sweeping the floor with a push broom — I pushed so hard that I snapped the handle. I could have gotten pissed, angry, stormed off to buy another one, or started throwing shit around… but I laughed. I said, nice one, Universe — maybe I've been pushing too hard. So operation garage cleanup is left at about 75% complete, and I'm fine with that. One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements. Get your copy at https://amzn.to/3BMeBbL The agreements are. Be Impeccable with Your Word Don't Take Anything Personally Don't Make Assumptions Always Do Your Best Now, if you just have them memorized or know them from a magnet, you could run into challenges. In the book, the nuances are explained more. Always Do Your Best, for example, sounds lovely, but the truth is your best will change from day to day, from moment to moment. Your best when you are tired, hungry, or sick is nothing close to your best when you are healthy, vibrant, and loving life. Your best is not some static setting; it varies. Some days my best is walking away from a broken broom handle. When I publicly came out of 8 months of withdrawal and darkness last month, one type of comment struck me at how often it was stated. "I've been feeling the same way" and "You are not alone." Why do we hide our pain from each other? Every human being has challenges, wounds, and struggles. Yet we often believe nobody is supposed to know that. WHATEVER you are going through, other people feel like you do, other people are dealing with that same thing -- but they keep it to themselves. Let it out. We are here to support each other. I don't believe life is a competition. I struggled for years with a sense that I wasn't enough. I felt a lack of self-worth that affected all aspects of my life, including my body image and the way I saw myself. I'm here first off to remind you that your self-worth has nothing to do with what you do or your achievements. You are worthy because you are born. All of us are. You're inherently worthy. Period. 5 Ways To Increase Your Self-Worth Now that we've got that straight, I want to share with you the five ways I've found to help increase your self-worth. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest.    1. Say No More Often Yes, you heard me right. It might sound counterintuitive but say no more often! By learning to speak up for yourself, saying no and getting out of the people-pleasing rut, you're learning to feel ok saying no. When you say no, you allow yourself to make room for what is a full yes. This builds self-efficacy!   2. Be Impeccable with Your Words Be mindful and impeccable with your words. As Don Miguel Ruiz shares in his book (one of my absolute faves), The Four Agreements, you must be impeccable with your word. Here's the catch, be impeccable with the words you use towards and with yourself. Start to recognize, track and watch what you say to yourself. Watch what you say to others as well, and build real integrity with your words and actions. This builds confidence and self-worth.   3. Forgive Yourself Forgive Yourself is a practice that will allow you to release shame, guilt, regret, and feelings of 'not good enough'. Write a list of resentments you have with and towards yourself. Look at them as an observer and go deeper to see what was under each resentment and fear. Write about that fear and have compassion for yourself. You can't change the past, but you can change the present, which will change your future. This is not only helpful for building your worthiness but also healing for your mind and body.   4. Focus on Your Strengths Focus on your strengths rather than where you're falling short. It's so easy (thank you, 'negative bias') to feel like you're always coming up short, missing out, and comparing yourself to others. Rather than focusing on what's not working, aim your attention on your strengths. Write a list of your strengths. For example, some of your top strengths are creativity, empathy, kindness, writing, deep listening, and open-mindedness. Create a practice before the end of each day where you look at how you tapped into your strengths. What you focus on will expand and make you feel more and more self-worth.   5. Turn to a Higher Power Don't do your life alone. Take time every morning before answering texts and calls and checking your Instagram feed to connect to a source and power greater than yourself. Whether you call it the Divine Matrix, Infinite Intelligence, God, Goddess, The Universe, Source Energy, or Higher Power, find a way to anchor into this greater channel of wisdom, love, and light. I shared some practices I do to help me feel more connected to the Divine. Find what works for you and make this a mandatory practice. You will start to feel an increased sense of self-worth and a deeper relationship with Divine Order.  The World Is A Mirror Don't forget that the world is a mirror reflecting what you see within yourself. As you strengthen your sense of self-worth, you'll not only see this in others but it will be reflected back to you. The goal, of course, is not to need it reflected back by others but to cultivate this from within and with your Higher Power. Final Thoughts Here's to your remembering your worthiness and increasing your sense of self-worth! Be Impeccable with your word!Don't take anything personally!Don't assume!Do your best! Those are the four agreements from the book "The Four Agreements".  Today, my good friend and your podcast psychotherapist, Shane Murphy, and I discuss each agreement in depth. These agreements are integral to mental health. Mental health isn't talked about enough. How to improve your mental health is the purpose of this episode. We get wrapped up in anxiety. When we don't follow the four agreements, anxiety grows within us and affects everything. We make assumptions because we are not thinking rationally. Anxieties lead to panic and fear. 90% of your anxiety comes from inaccurate assumptions. We talk about how you can flip your emotions when you are about to take something personal. And we delve into that buzzword of the last few years - being triggered. Why do we get triggered?Where does it come from? We delve into this and how to take ownership of your thoughts and your life. I highly recommend this episode.  Shane now has a radio show on Cry104 FM and started a program called Creative Pathways - a way for people to connect with creativity and psychotherapy. As always, I am available for coaching and consulting and should you need to go even deeper into traumas and deep mental health work, I recommend Shane. The Book entitled The Four Agreements had a huge impact on me. One of the Agreements is to Be Impeccable with Your Word. This reminds us that words are power and are important. Words can encourage and they can discourage, they can hurt and they can heal. We must use our words intentionally and carefully.

I was recently asked for book recommendations from a friend of mine and after talking a bit, I felt like "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz would be the best fit. While working out today, I started thinking about this book and one of the Agreements. That Agreement was "Be Impeccable with your Word". I thought back to being an 8-9 year old kid when twice that I can remember someone let me down and didn't keep their promise or commitment to me and how that affected me. Obviously more than I thought, after all I am pushing 47 this year and nearly 40 years later here I am podcasting about it. Anyway, I discuss this and how it is imperative that we do our best to keep our word and if we cannot to have a decent reason why we cannot. Communicating that is important. It's a brief "On The Go" episode so I hope you enjoy. Not in the studio on this one! Thanks for listening and please continue to share, like, review, comment & subscribe! Don Miguel Ruiz said, “Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.”   In this episode, Dr. Kamphoff talks about the first agreement, “Be Impeccable with Your Word” of Don Miguel Ruiz’s book “The Four Agreements.” Cindra talks about how a key to be impeccable with our word is to be a silent listener to the voice in your own mind. We all have some degree of negativity. You have a choice to believe the thoughts or not when your thoughts are critical or negative about yourself. A key is to build yourself up to protect your confidence, energy and leadership.   This Week’s Power Phrase: “I will talk to myself powerfully. I will avoid using my words to speak against myself or others.”

The 4 Agreements is one of my favourite books. It offers incredibly life lessons that we could all use to live by that will without question improve our quality of life. In this episode Drew shares his perspective on each agreement and how they've changed his life for the better in different ways. Starting with the first agreement: Be Impeccable with your word. It's just want you say but what you think about yourself and others. Agreement number 2: Don't take anything personally. A difficult task without question but one that can be improved on over time and practice. The Third agreement is, don't make any assumption. We have no idea what other people are going through in their lives. It's always a good idea to avoid making assumptions. And finally the fourth agreement: Always do your best. Without question, how you do one thing is how you do everything. So strive to do your best no matter what it is that you're doing.

Spending time digging into the 1st Agreement from "The Four Agreements". #1 Be Impeccable w/ Your Word.My mind has been racing all over from tell the truth, develop a vocabulary, positive self talk, be kind (honest/direct) towards others, reframing... I'm brought into something that I've read and listened to Jordan Peterson talk about in his "12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos." Rule 10 - Be precise with your word.I've just been struggling a little about not reinforcing the negative moments, not relying on the last positive moment, and how to define myself - maybe why? Giving others ownership or authority over who we are because of their word/communication.Thought instigators this week:Jordan Peterson Instagram posts: Jan 15th, 24th.Deep thought conversation: "If I lost everything I have, right now, what would I do? This is an episode of Crush It Mondays.  Each week, I'll bring to you an inspiring message, habit, or contemplation to get your week off to a powerful start.  In this week's episode, I want to talk about a book I love by Don Miguel Ruiz called The Four Agreements.  First off, I want to thank our podcast sponsor, Osea Malibu. Don Miguel tells us about ancient Toltec wisdom. 1. Be Impeccable with Your Word Do the things you say you are going to do and be thoughtful about how talk to and about people.  Your word and your integrity are the most valuable thing you have to offer.  This agreement also includes avoiding gossiping, lying, and making false promises.  Our words are incredibly powerful- not only the words we say to others, but the words we say to ourselves.  Saying bad things about people actually reflects poorly on you.  Your judgment of others is really a mirror of your own self-criticism. It feels gross to lie, gossip, or say negative things.  Negativity also spreads like wildfire, so how you talk can really influence people and how they feel. 2. Don't Take Anything Personally Most people's actions are about them, not about you.  If someone snaps at you, it's easy to take it personally but it's really more likely that it's a reflection of something going on with them, not you. 3. Don't Make Assumptions This is the hardest one for me.  Remember the Crush It Monday I recorded about the ABCs- adversity, belief, consequence?  Assumptions are deeply tied to the belief of something that happened. Assumptions can cause a huge amount of unnecessary stress.  Assumptions and snap judgments about people can be really wrong.  As human beings, it's natural for us to look around and constantly be analyzing everything about our world.  There are times where you need to make some kind of assumption to make a decision, but there are other times where it's only causing you stress and harm. The reality is we don't know what people are thinking, we don't always know what tone was meant by an email or a text... Really trying to understand where someone else is coming from, even if you don't agree with them can help you avoid jumping to conclusions. There are times where intuition reigns supreme about assumptions. It's important not to ignore really obvious signs of something going wrong, but being aware of when you are making assumptions and questioning the validity of them is really helpful! 4. Always Do Your Best This was drilled into me from a young age and I sincerely appreciated that from my parents.  Doing your best helps you feel proud of whatever you are doing, regardless of the outcome.  Your best is all you have on that day.  Your best can vary from day to day as well (think of racing when your best one day maybe just barely finishing and your best another day is getting on the podium!). If you do your best, you'll rarely have any regrets.  Don Miguel also says, "When you do your best you learn to accept yourself."  I don't know about you, but self-acceptance is something I struggle with the most.   "You can choose to believe in anything, and that includes believing in yourself." - Four Agreements Give Back to the Show   Listen Now   Yay!  Our Podcast Sponsor- Osea Malibu --  Osea Malibu: vegan, non-toxic, earth-friendly skincare from California! --   Osea Malibu Atmosphere Protection Cream --  Use code "sonyalooney" for $10 of your first $50 purchase: Shop now!

The four agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz provides a roadmap toward the highest version of yourself. Integrity is crucial in your recovery journey and by harnessing it's virtues you will be freed of the negative weight and repercussions of actions that go against these agreements. 1. Be Impeccable with Your Word No complaining. No criticising. No blaming. No gossiping.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally

How someone responds to you often says more about THEM than it says about you. 3. Don’t Make Assumptions

By asking questions you side step assuming you already know the answer. This creates clear communication between the parties involved. Be courageous and ask questions until you fully understand the actions, words, or behaviors. 4. Always Do Your Best Understand that your best will be fluid, it will change day by day. Being comfortable with this fluctuation in yourself and others is paramount to an understanding, vulnerable, and loving relationship with yourself, your activites, and your realtionships. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love. 2. Don’t Take Anything Personally Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. 3. Don’t Make Assumptions Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life. 4. As of the date this episode was released it is Thanksgiving Day here in the US. It is always a good time to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives. It’s too easy to focus on what’s missing and what’s not going right and that creates a very unpleasant experience. Taking the time to reflect on what we have and what’s going right creates a peaceful and grateful state of mind that can help us to stay calm and in action. If you have not yet added a gratitude practice in your daily routing I’m going to highly recommend it. One thing I am incredibly grateful for this week is all the changes that have been happening to my website. More changes are going to roll out over time but for now womentakingthelead.com definitely has a new look and feel to it. I would love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. Many of the best ideas for my business including the website, this podcast, and the services I provide have come from my clients and community. Sometimes we’re too close to something to see the obvious so I am grateful for any feedback I can get; positive, negative or neutral. This episode is the fourth and last episode in a series based on one of the most impactful books I have ever read, The Four Agreements, and an event that I attended in Portland, Maine. The speakers at the event I attended were don Miguel Ruiz Sr., who is the author of The Four Agreements, and his sons don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz. In this series I’m sharing with you the notes I took that evening and some of my thoughts around the material. The agreements I’ve covered in the first three episodes where Be Impeccable with Your Word, Always Do Your Best and Don’t Take Anything Personally. I’ve introduced each agreement in the order in which they were presented at the event. There was one agreement left as don Jose Ruiz came to the stage, Don’t Make Assumptions. And again a twist on how to apply this agreement to your life was presented. From the book The Four Agreements the guidance for Don’t Make Assumptions reads, “Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.” When I read The Four Agreements 20 years ago I read this agreement as relating mostly to not making assumptions about other people. However, don Jose Ruiz focused mostly on not making assumptions about yourself. I went back to the book to see if this was a completely new twist and discovered it was not. Be open to avoid making assumptions. Open your heart. Remember who you are. You are a temple of love. You can overcome anything, including yourself. You are here to love unconditionally and that includes yourself. If you are not happy with yourself how can you be happy with another? You are the love of your own life. Love yourself so you can love another. Be skeptical of the negativity you direct at yourself: that you are not perfect, that you are not enough and that you cannot change. Respect and love yourself. What do you love about your temple? We assume people see things the way we do and so when they do not say and do what we think they should be saying and doing we assume it’s for a negative reason. This is why we struggle with being ourselves. We are such a harsh critic of ourselves we assume if others knew “the real” us they would judge us as harshly as we judge ourselves. In this way we project our view of the world onto other, thus completely misunderstanding the other person and internally or externally attacking the other person for intentions they do not have. To stop this vicious cycle we have to (one) change the way we treat ourselves. Again, you are the love of your own life. Love yourself so you can love others. And (two) ask other people what their view is, what their intentions are. We are wired to need to understand, to have the answer to questions that float through our mind. If we do not seek the truth we will make stuff up to have any answer even if it is incorrect. This causes so much suffering. That is why with the one agreement to Don’t Make Assumptions you can completely transform your life. Can you imagine how this one agreement could change who you are as a leader and as a business owner? By not making assumptions you are less like to take things personally and be hurt by others words or actions. Making assumptions is the breeding ground for taking things personally. It’s a one-two punch. Take some time today to imagine what life would be like if you were no longer emotionally derailed by other people; if, rather than need to expend energy on managing your emotions, you could calmly and directly ask questions to get the heart of the situation. How much more could you accomplish in a day, a week or a year? It will blow your mind if you take some time to think about it. And if this is something you struggle with reach out to me. This is part of the work I do with my clients. With the process I take them through they get so much energy back that they in turn use to hit their goals and create even better ones. Don’t go it alone if you don’t have to. There are some exciting things going on behind the scenes here. I mentioned the upcoming changes to my website in last week’s 100% Jodi. There are other changes I’m planning for this podcast, The Accomplished Membership Community and in the coaching services I provide. Some of the changes are subtle, some not so subtle and I will let you all know when the changes are real and you can actually look at them or experience them. Suffice to say for now, the experience I’m having working with a digital strategist, the feedback I’m getting from all of you, and the experience I’m having doing A Course in Miracles, and the complimentary books I’m reading, are leading me in some exciting new directions. I want to read to you an excerpt from one of those complimentary books I’m reading, The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson. “Your energy, your attitude, your positivity, your words, your ability to listen to others and truly dwell in the present; all those things make you a person others want to be with, want to work with, want to share ideas with. That energy is the spiritual basis for wealth creation.”What Marianne is talking about is self-leadership and this is the core of the business and leadership coaching I do. In fact, the starting point in working with me is taking the Energy Leadership Assessment. The Energy Leadership Assessment captures your energy, your attitude, your positivity, your ability to listen to others and truly dwell in the present. It’s not a critique; it’s a snap shot to give you an idea of where you are starting from and where you can go. And you’re not left there. In the debriefing of your results I am giving you practices and perspectives that will help you to increase your energy, positivity and abilities so you can be without a doubt the person others want to follow, want to work with, want to collaborate with, etc. If you are interested in taking the Energy Leadership Assessment go to womentakingthelead.com/assessment to find out more and purchase your assessment so you can start getting the results you want to see. The Four Agreements for a Better Life In last week's 100% Jodi episode I introduced doing a series of episodes based on one of the most impactful books I have ever read, The Four Agreements. Last May I published a 100% Jodi episode titled, 9 Places I Found What I (Didn't Realize) I Needed. In that episode I shared 9 books that came into my life and changed it for the better. When people ask what book I would recommend to others The Four Agreements is the book I recommend most. The reason for this is I believe the biggest thing holding us back in our lives and in our businesses is our stress reactions. Our stress reactions are created by our perception of self, others and the world at large. Quite simply, the teachings in The Four Agreements enable you to change your perception so you don’t get stressed out by what’s happening. Because you don’t get stressed out and thus shut down, overreact or pretend things are okay when they are not, you can bring forth your highest self in any situation. The Four Agreements are powerful because they are simple. I recently had the pleasure of attending an event in Portland, Maine titled The Four Agreements for a Better Life. The speakers were don Miguel Ruiz, who is the author of The Four Agreements, and his sons don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz. In this series I’m sharing with you the notes I took that evening and some of my thoughts around the material. This is part two in this series. Last week I covered the opening of the evening in which don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. declared the most important agreement is Be Impeccable with Your Word. I’ve been hearing from some of you that this talk provided a spin on this agreement that you had not considered before so if you personally did not catch that episode be sure to go back and give it a listen. Always Do Your Best Next to the stage that evening was don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and he covered the agreement, Always Do Your Best. Here are my notes as I wrote them. Always do your best is the expression of unconditional love. It is living your life fully. Love yourself, love your body, and love your mind. Take care of yourself for your fullest expression of love. Conditional love is the enemy of freedom. In fact, as don Miguel Jr. explained it, conditional love is the weapon used for domestication, or controlling the will of another human being. Control of another is a form of disrespect that begins with creating self-doubt in another. Self-doubt then allows the perpetrator to exert their will and subjugate the other. There are rewards and punishments in the process of domestication. The rewards feel like acceptance, feel like love and the punishment feels like rejection, a lack of love. Looking at yourself in the mirror and judging yourself is the ultimate form of Domestication. Couples also try to domesticate each other to fit their own image of love. Bring Awareness to Your Automatic Ways of Being Taking the four agreements and making each one a means by which to judge yourself and others is domestication. Judgment takes a pure teaching or wisdom and corrupts it. In a moment of clarity when we see what we have done we can make a choice to change for ourselves. To unlearn our domestication we need bring awareness to our automatic ways of being, our automatic “yeses” and “nos.” Being skeptical introduces reason and prevents the automatic “yes’ or “no.” Putting your beliefs up for scrutiny (skepticism) will allow you to make a new choice. What has someone else said that has stuck with you? Chances are they said it once or a few time but you have been repeating it to yourself ever since, thus being complicit in your own domestication. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Forgive yourself for being complicit in your own domestication. Be skeptical of negativity. Be skeptical of your own negativity. To Sum it Up… That’s the end of my notes and I have to share when don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. introduced skepticism…let’s just say I was a little surprised. I was skeptical of being skeptical which is making me laugh a little bit now. However, what I’ve come to realize is doses of skepticism allow you to bring more awareness to the forefront. Rather than knee-jerk reacting into a verbal response or a behavior we can take a step back and consider the options. I’ve come to realize there are very few things that need to be rushed. Yet, we often rush to try to fit more into our lives only to realize most of the things we’re rushing to fit in are things we don’t want or need in the first place. In fact, rushing will cause us to overlook important details that we will have to take the time to fix or make amends for later. Always do your best is the expression of unconditional love. It is living your life fully. Love yourself, love your body, and love your mind. Take care of yourself for your fullest expression of love. Energy Leadership Assessment I’m bringing this back around to the Energy Leadership Assessment because it goes hand-in-hand with don Miguel Jr.’s coverage of “always do your best”. His coverage had at its core bringing awareness to your automatic ways of being. That is exactly what the Energy Leadership Assessment does. It allows you to see what your knee-jerk reactions to stress are so you choose a different response if you want to and get a different result. It’s a quick and dirty way to get at the heart of what has been keeping you from accomplishing the goals you long for. If you are interested in taking the Energy Leadership Assessment go to womentakingthelead.com/assessment to find out more and purchase your assessment so you can start getting the results you want to see. What can I share with you that has been going on in my world? Well, for one, there are going to be some changes to my website. WomenTakingTheLead.com is going to get a whole new look and feel soon. I’m really excited about this because the changes are more reflective of my brand and what I am trying to accomplish with Women Taking the Lead. If I haven’t shared already I’ve also begun reading A Course in Miracles. Or I should say I’m doing A Course in Miracles. It is a very interactive read, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. As of the release of this episode on October 26, 2017 I am 36 days into the course. It has been both challenging and freeing. While overall I can acknowledge I’m a pretty positive person, I have become aware of how critical I am of myself and others. While this awareness is a bit startling it’s a good thing because enables me to let go of being so critical. Given some of the things I’ve been dealing with recently and what’s been going on in our society in the past few months I don’t think it was a coincidence that I took the opportunity finally to begin A Course in Miracles. If you have done any part of the course or you are thinking about it I would love to hear from you. I don’t think this course is meant to be done on your own and I’m seeking a variety of perspectives. I’ve gained so much from others sharing with me what their experience has been, either the insights they’ve gained or questions they still have. Lastly, what’s going on for me is in the next few weeks I am offering 30-Minute Calls to the members of the Women taking the Lead Private Facebook Group to chat about anything. It could be for coaching, for advice, to ask me anything and everything, etc. This call is for you, my only questions will be, “How can I be of service to you?” If you want in, head over to womentakingthelead.com/group to join the facebook group and schedule your call. The speakers were don Miguel Ruiz, the author of The Four Agreements, and his sons don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz. In this and the next few 100% Jodi episodes I’m going to share with you the notes I took that evening and some of my thoughts around the material. The Most Important Agreement Don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. started the evening declaring the most important agreement is “Be Impeccable with Your Word.” It is the most important agreement because your word creates your reality. You have created the story of yourself so if you don’t like the story you have about yourself you can change it. You don’t have to be the current version of you anymore if you don’t want to. You are an artist with your words. The art you create is the story of your life. It is not real, you made it up, so you can change it at any time. Don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. issued a request to help him change the world. The way you change the world is by changing your own world. You change your world by changing the way you speak, specifically by no longer using words against yourself. Stop punishing yourself for the mistakes you believe you made. Stop attacking (and thus trying to control) other people. Respect yourself; respect other people. When you respect yourself and others you find peace. Life is Easy. We Make it Difficult. We make life difficult by adding drama to it. You will change your world by changing the way you treat yourself and your physical body. It doesn’t matter what others do. What is important is for you to enjoy your life. What really struck me in what don Miguel Sr. shared is that it was a fantastic compliment to the conversation Libby Bunten and I had in last week’s On-Air Coaching Call episode. Libby and I recorded our call the day before this event occurred so I went into this event with our conversation fresh in my mind. In that episode, Libby shared how her old story of who she is, specifically who she is for other people, was holding her back in her business and keeping her from being her highest self in her life. Not only was it keeping her from being her highest self but she could see how it was keeping those around her from being their highest selves as well. Before our coaching call Libby had already started crafting a new story for herself, however, she was having difficulty living into it. We were able to identify some things that were holding her back from truly embracing her new empowering story and some practices that would help her to more quickly integrate it into her life. The Stories that Hold You Back My clients come to me for various reasons but what is always holding them back is a story they have about who they are, who other people are, how things should be done, etc. These stories are the words that they repeat to themselves and keep them imprisoned in their current reality. Here are some examples: Stories and words that keep you from trusting others “If you want something done right you’ve got to do it yourself.” “I’m the only one who can do this.”   “I can’t trust others to do this the way it needs to be done.” You cannot grow in your business or your career or your life without beginning to trust others. It may sound like an insurmountable hurdle but there are ways to build trust slowly so you can get to a place where you can allow other people opportunities to grow as well. It can be done. It has been done. It could be yours. Stories and words that devalue your abilities “I’m not the expert.” “I’ve only been in business for X amount of years.” “My degree is in another field.” “I don’t have the letters after my name.” “Other people have so much more experience than I do.” Let’s be clear, more experience, degrees and letters do not necessarily mean better results. In fact, when I challenged one of my clients on this belief she owned up that some of her clients had hired her after hiring a so-called “experienced expert” to come in and fix what the experienced person had done. What society considers valuable is not necessarily what produces results. Please don’t devalue what you can do for your clients and customers. They need you to help them so be more confident so they can put their trust in you. Stories and words that give your power away to others “If I speak up for myself I’ll hurt this person.” “There’s no point in speaking up. They’re not going to listen to what I have to say.” “There’s nothing I can do.” “Why bother, it’s not going to make a difference.” When we give our power away, when we stop speaking up for ourselves, for what we believe and we stop trying to make a difference we mentally become a victim to our circumstances. I’m not got to water this down. This mentality has catastrophic consequences to our health, work, relationships, finances, and thus destroys our experience of joy and peace. To Sum it Up… There is NO FREEDOM in any of the stories I just mentioned and these stories attack who you really are, your highest self. They disrespect you and they disrespect others. The moral of this episode is your words create your experience. Watch the words that flow through your mind and the words that come out of your mouth. If you find the words that you think or speak upset you or limit what’s possible for you, you have a choice. You can keep going on the way you’re going and hope things get better or you can challenge your words and choose new words that empower you. “Be Impeccable with Your Word” is the most important agreement because your word creates your reality. 30-Minute Calls for the Private Facebook Group If you want to talk through any of this here is the reminder that in the next few weeks I am offering 30-Minute Calls to the members of the Women taking the Lead Private Facebook Group to chat about anything. Mindset Academy is led by Monika and Jan Zands. This month we will dive into how do you limit your life in a way that does not allow you to become fully who you really are? There are several books that are basic for personal development, one of them is The Four Agreements, written by Don Miguel Ruiz. Jan set examples when we label ourselves as “liars.” Yes, that is a big word, but many times we promise to ourselves we are going to do something and we fail to do it. We are also  “thieves” stealing time from others when not showing up on time, we are “murderers” when killing other people’s dreams. Strong, isn’t it?  The Four Agreements book brings us the First Agreement which is: “Be Impeccable with your word.” When you fail to be impeccable with your word, the biggest injury is not upon others but upon yourself. When you make a promise you first make it with yourself and by breaking it, you are affecting you first and then others.  Impeccable means without sin. What makes us unique as human beings is language. When you use your language to hurt, then you are sinning. We need to take responsibility of our words and manage how what we say has to do with ourselves more than with others. The emotional baggage that we carry around makes us sick, physically sick, but is not our body but our emotions that we are carrying unsolved. Awareness and Repetition of our behaviors and words is needed. Sometimes “Upset” is the way of realizing that we have not being impeccable with our words. Follow this process of healing when you have the access that upset is showing: Think in a time when you were not impeccable with your word. You labeled yourself after that situation, you carry the memory of that moment, blaming and judging yourself. Free yourself by practicing forgiveness. Forgive yourself for judging yourself. What is the truth? Summarizing the work of today’s session: Elevate your impeccability by: Awareness. Matter shifts when it’s observed. If you find upset, that is an opportunity to heal. Ask yourself,  what is the emotion? Then track that emotion in time. (Find the pattern and heal them all by starting with one.) What happened? What was the judgment? Now, practice compassion and self forgiveness. Fill the space with LOVE, YOU ARE WORTHY!   In This Episode You Will Learn: Consider/Ask Yourself: How often are you practicing compassion and self-forgiveness? Practice: “I forgive myself for judging myself as…”   Key Insights and Ahas: Emotional Upsets are the access to a place inside that hurts. Awareness and repetition leads to shift and healing.

Here’s some of what you will learn: Your ability to connect and communicate is the key to your success in life and business. How you communicate reveals everything about you. When you communicate properly you build understanding, relationships, and trust. “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” - George Bernard Shaw Only 7% of communication is words. People don’t just hear you, they feel you. “If you just communicate, you can get by. But if you communicate skillfully, you can work miracles.” – Jim Rohn “Seek first to understand before you seek to be understood.” – Stephen Covey You must make a sincere effort to understand. Say what you mean and mean what you say. “Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.” – Don Miguel Ruiz Sometimes good communication is all it takes to fix a relationship is good communication. “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.” – Dr. Seuss Book recommendation: “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz Connect with me on Facebook at: Rod Khleif Text ROD to 41411 or visit RodKhleif.com for a FREE copy of my book, “How to Create Lifetime Cash Flow Through Multifamily Properties”.
