American Democracy at RiskJoin us for an engaging discussion with best-selling author Jeffrey Archer as he returns to the Lean to the Left podcast. Archer dives into his latest novel, 'An Eye for an Eye,' which features a gripping plot about a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence. He also shares his admiration for Thomas Jefferson and how U.S. politics have influenced his storytelling. Reflecting on his 60-year friendship with former Senator Bill Bradley, Archer discusses the current American political climate and Donald Trump's impact, saying that American democracy is at risk if Trump wins the election."We in England find it very hard to understand how he (Trump) ever became the candidate. It's beyond us," Archer says. "If you love America as much as I do, you can grow to understand it because you realize that he appeals to a certain section of the American public"However, Archer predicts that Trump will defeat Kamala Harris, but worries that if she wins in a close race, violence could ensue. "What I dread most is a result, say 268 to 272 win by Kamala Harris, because if that happened, heaven knows what will happen next," he says. During the conversation, he offers insights into his creative process, his experiences in the House of Lords, international affairs, and his two years spent in prison. While the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $50 billion to upgrade America's drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, much more will be needed to address the nation's water infrastructure needs amid a changing climate and shifts in population. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates the US will need almost $900 billion in water investment over the next twenty years, plus hundreds of billions more for maintenance. These sums will burden federal, state and local budgets but also pose new opportunities—and risks—for investors in water projects. Our panel of experts includes Senator Bill Bradley, former United States Senator, D-NJ; Doug Evanson, executive vice president and chief financial officer, San Antonio Water System; Howard Neukrug, executive director, The Water Center at the University of Pennsylvania; Nicole Lick, senior life scientist, water division, United States Environmental Protection Agency Mid-Atlantic Region; and Reese Tisdale, president and chief executive officer, Bluefield Research. Notable Quotes: “There was bipartisan support for the infrastructure bill, and so this is a matter of modifying and taking that support and moving into something even more critical than roads and bridges –– our supply of water to areas of the country that don't have it.” - Senator Bill Bradley “It's amazing how much the water industry has changed in the last ten years and certainly 20 to 30 years looking back, but the concept of reusing water, particularly in the West and other parts of the world, is… new… it's a technology that's growing.” - Howard Neukrug “The VISTA Ridge water supply project [in San Antonio] has been recognized nationally as one of the largest public-private partnerships to be constructed in North America....The project is essential for San Antonio meeting its demand requirements in 2023 and could not have been completed without the public-private partnership structure.” - Doug Evanson “Ever since the Clean Water Act, since 1976, federal funding towards the water sector has shifted away from 15% to 5% now. [That funding gap] has been pushed on the local communities and local governments to address the challenges that they face.” - Reese Tisdale “52 years ago, the Clean Water Act resulted in $200 billion in federal water infrastructure investments over a 10-year period, and that investment was incredibly successful in cleaning up our water.... But it also means that our water infrastructure is aging and nearing the end of its lifespan and requires upgrades or replacement.” - Nicole Lick Be sure to subscribe to Special Briefing to stay up to date on the world of public finance. KILCOYNE CONVERSATION 5 1 FRANK CALIENDO BILL BRADLEY by
What happened to teamwork and the spirit of unity and common purpose – not just in sports, but in politics and in society? Former New Jersey senator and basketball legend Bill Bradley, the star of the one-man show Rolling Along, tells a tale that took him from a Missouri boyhood to a celebrated turn at Princeton, the bright lights of New York's Madison Square Garden, and nearly 25 years in politics, followed by a post-political segue to academia, finance, and “story-telling.”
Host Bill Donohue welcomes former New York Knicks forward and two-time World Champion Senator Bill Bradley to the program. In the second half, Bill talks with Tom Hallion, a retired Major League Baseball umpire who worked in the National League from 1985 to 1999 and in both major leagues from 2005 until 2022.
Bill Bradley once said, Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in. Well, I just passed the one-year mark for the podcast. March 27th 2023, I made a commitment to show up every week for the next 12 months and you know what, I did it! I am proud of myself, 57 episodes feels amazing! My mission with BFS is to create a conversation and get curious about this game called life. What I have found as a recruiting professional over the course of two decades is that we as humans are so varied and diverse through our experiences in life, yet we share so many of the same fears and aspirations. Maslovs hierarchy is as relevant today as it ever was. Physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. There will continue to be change and evolution in the world through technological advancements but as humans, our primal needs are absolutely a necessity. Bill Bradley is one of those wildly talented people, a star athlete with a brilliant mind. He went to Princeton University where he was the 1965 NCAA champion of the year. Then it was on to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. But basketball still called to him and he joined the New York Knicks, playing on the dream team which won two NBA championships. After life on the court, Bradley decided to try politics and was elected to the U.S. Senate from New Jersey where he served three terms. Bradley has made a film about the many chapters of his life called Rolling Along. “Now What? is produced with help from Steve Zimmer, Lucy Little and Jackie Schwartz. He was a graduate of Princeton University, Rhodes Scholar, a member of two NBA championships with the New York Knicks basketball team, a United States Senator for the State of New Jersey and a one-time Presidential candidate. He's a far cry from a dumb jock. If you want to get rich don't blow your money on Super Bowl stuff that caters to those who are already wealthy.
