On this episode of Surf Charleston we had a fantastic chat with Erin Jones, one of the co-founders of Waves 4 Women, Waves 4 Women's therapeutic surf program which is a surf therapy program for women who have experienced trauma and other significant life stressors (to include domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health issues, addiction, and loss). It promotes psychological wellbeing and enhanced interpersonal functioning, social connection, and belonging. The primary focus of the program is to introduce wellness skills derived from positive psychology in combination with surf instruction as a way to improve overall emotional and psychological wellness and daily functioning of program participants. the organization was created to not only teach women how to surf, but to show them how they can apply the mindset of surfing to cope with stress. Sergeant Andrew Manzi served two tours in Iraq before being medically retired. After returning home from war, he was lost, angry and suffering from a traumatic brain injury and PTSD. But then he discovered the healing power of surfing. Andy wanted to give that same healing to other veterans, so he started Warrior Surf Foundation.
