My guest for the podcast this week is Justin Morris, licensed therapist and This Naked Mind Coach. Justin shares his personal story of growing up where alcohol was modeled as a ‘normal' part of adult life and yet he also watched alcohol erode his parent's marriage and create health issues for his grandfather. Justin found himself struggling with drinking in his late teens when he came out as queer at 17. Heading off to college, Justin used alcohol as a sober ‘buffer' to blend in and remain ‘unseen'. This drinking pattern continued into a high stress job as a social worker. Justin broke up with alcohol in September of 2020 and now helps others to break through to freedom. Justin also invites us to explore a new coaching collective, 'Living Proud AF'. This collective is an offering from several This Naked Mind Coaches who identify as LGBTQIA++. Their motto is: Empowering LGBTQIA++ people to take control of alcohol and start . . . Living Proud AF ! Full Show Notes HERE

What is this Ragnar exactly and where does it fit in the running world? Well, that's a surprisingly difficult question to answer, it turns out... In old norse it means "warrior", yet today it means so many different things to different people, and the experience is not the same from one team to the next either, which heavily depends on the particular location and event. There were over 30 this year to choose from. One thing is the same across them all, "experiencing true camaraderie", according to Ragnar. And lest I forget: you get to run, and see some places you would probably never see by foot. This included the end-of-the-year Florida Trail Ragnar, which I had the opportunity to participate in December 2nd-3rd, 2022. Could this be an Ultra with a team of 4, or be a marathon with a team of 6, or something more fun with a team of 8? Yes, yes, and yes. That's one of the reasons Ragnar is so hard to understand from the outside, with so many possibilities and combinations of skill, experience, and speed, each story is unique on the other side of the relay experience. We formed a team of 8 to accomplish the Florida Trail Ragnar in about 24 hours held outside of Tampa Bay at Alafia State Park, but our team dropped down to 7 after an early ankle injury. Those who accepted this challenge included Team Captain Mike Grinnell (interviewed for this episode, Justin Yarbrough, Justin Morris, Joe Bridges, Tito Velasquez, Igor Kornienko and our in-house musician / volunteer, Bob Shea. In this episode, I interview a veteran team captain to see what it takes and how one gets into this Ragnar thing initially, and keeps it going for years. I also interview a relatively new Ragnar runner who is also volunteering to make coffee and hot cocoa as she keep the troops energized, just around the corner from the all night campfire and exchange zone where one "hands off the baton" between runners. We then talk to one of the organizers facilitating the sprawling event, informing us about topics from Ragnar route setup to "circus travels". And lastly we touch base with a group of folks known as "immortals" (note the norse mythology continuation), as they have earned the title by completing over 12 of these Ragnar events in one year, and find out from them some of their lessons learned and favorites. Forty-five time Ragnar alum Rick Harold told me while cheering on fellow "immortals" that it wasn't really about finishing or times or even running necessarily, but about the community and feeling of challenge accomplishment together, after he had just finished cheering for over 24 hours! Oh, and there are Road Ragnars and Sprint Ragnars as well. Perhaps more on that in a future episode, when I'm tempted to travel in a team van for 24 hours plus trading non-van time to run in who knows where! To summarize, a quote from Ragnar webpage: "Set a crazy goal. Gather your tribe. Divide and conquer. Bask in the joy of achieving something together that you could never do alone (very true). With more cowbell, baby. Always more cowbell. " Please reach out and share, connect with us on Facebook or IG: RunningAnthropologist www.runninganthropologist.com
The primary goal of grazing, or any other farming endeavor, is to convert light energy efficiently and profitably from the sun into food. Many graziers think of themselves as grass farmers, harvesting sunlight and converting it through forage into animal products. In this episode of Voices from the Field, NCAT Sustainable Agriculture Specialists Lee Rinehart and Justin Morris talk specifically about photosynthesis and whether it can be managed. And if so, how? American world tour professional Larry Warbasse grew up in northern Michigan, an area more renown for its brutal winters than its road cycling. Warbasse however developed such a passion for his sport than nothing was going to stand in his way of enjoying his sport of cycling not even inclement weather. Coming from an academic family and with an opportunity awaiting at the University of Michigan Larry had to make a decision on where to put his grit and determination. Cycling won that choice as Larry attributes the power of the smile that cycling gave him. After 10 years as a top tier professional, a US national road title and 8 grand tours Larry still gets that smile from his sport. On a mid ride coffee park up with Justin Morris, hear his journey from an enthusiastic Northern Michigan junior to the roller coaster ride that is the modern world tour.

TriDot is putting all of their coaches through the TriDot method for coaching athletes to swim with balance, low drag and high power. Friday night we had a dinner together where I got to meet most of the coaches. I introduced myself to the coach that sat across from me at the table, who turned out to be Kurt Madden, who is a three Time Top 10 Finisher - Ironman World Championships; 2) Two Time Winner - Ultraman World Championships; 3) Two Time Age Group Winner - Ironman North American Championship; 4) Ironman All World Athlete - Ranked #1 in the World - Age Group - @ the Ironman distance in 2015 - 2106. Saturday was classroom and dry land training. We learned the why behind the techniques and form being taught. We learned the cues for remembering various aspects of streamlining, arm recovery, hand entry and the power phase of the stroke. We learned how to identify technique problems and coach through them. Sunday we were in the pool from 8-12 and applied everything we learned in the classroom to the pool. We started with 100 TTs for time to get a pre instruction baseline. We started with basic KOSS for more than an hour just working on balance in the water. The next hour and half was on the recovery mechanics and the last hour or the power phase and pulling it all together. We finished with a post instruction TT to see who made improvements. One coach went from 1:01 100M to a :59 100M. Some coaches took 4", 6", 8" and in one case 16" off their 100. We will be offering 2Day TriDot Pool School around the country starting this Fall. The talented public speaker raced for two seasons with the men's professional team before splitting his time between sharing the team's mission to inspire, educate and empower, completing his university studies and starting his own business coaching and mentoring athletes. The 35-year-old first discovered his love of biking at an early age. In high school, the Sydney-native noticed his best days were always the days he rode his bike to school. When the Sydney Olympics came to town, the mountain biking event and a key T1 diabetes role model in Aussie Rugby player Steve Renouf inspired him to start competing. After winning his first bike race, he never looked back. Morris was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 10. He raced mountain bikes as a junior and at 18, added road racing to his regimen for cross-training purposes. On the road, he excelled. In 2009, Morris signed his first road contract with the Australian domestic team MACE/Wilson Racing and joined the Team Novo Nordisk development team in 2010. Morris has never let his diabetes slow him down. In 2011, he finished fifth overall at the legendary Crocodile Trophy, a grueling 10-day Australian mountain bike event covering almost 750 miles. In 2016, he won the equally grueling Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, a five-day race on fat tire bikes across one of the world's largest sand deserts. Just prior to the pandemic Morris placed third overall at the Tour of East Timor, a stage race across the mountainous terrain in one of the world's newest nations and represented Australia at the world MTB marathon championships in Switzerland. As a Team Novo Nordisk ambassador, Justin has worked around the world spreading the team's positive message. From 2017-2019, he took part in ‘Pedal for 7,' a successful cycle event that stopped at various hospitals, schools, and community groups across the UK. He has spent significant time speaking throughout Asia where cycling is not so mainstream to help promote the team and to drive change in diabetes. Let's get into our interview. Winter feeding is one of the biggest expenses for most livestock operations. In this episode of Voices from the Field, NCAT Agriculture Specialist Lee Rinehart and NCAT Regenerative Grazing Specialist Justin Morris discuss strategies graziers can use to plan for winter stockpile during the summer grazing season. Stockpiling is the practice of allowing forage to accumulate during a portion of the growing season so it can be grazed during the dormant period when forage isn't growing. It combines the use of appropriate technology, peer-to-peer learning, and on-farm monitoring to encourage the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices. The Soil for Water project is about building lasting infrastructure that will make farms, ranches and communities more resilient in the face of persistent drought and other natural disasters across the eight-state project region.Learn more at soilforwater.org.Contact Tracy Mumma and Justin Morris via email at tracym@ncat.org and justinm@ncat.orgPlease complete a brief survey to let us know your thoughts about the content of this podcast. Please call ATTRA with any and all of your sustainable agriculture questions at 800-346-9140 or e-mail us at askanag@ncat.org. From Virtual Not Distant in London (https://virtualnotdistant.com), today's episode explores the use of the office and other environments for deliberate and mindful work in teams. We are joined by Justin Morris, Senior Customer Success Manager - Modern Communications, at Microsoft. We discuss ‘reopening anxiety', onboarding during lockdown, courageous and flexible leadership, and Microsoft's 3 pillar frameworkof people, place and process. The right policies, underpinned by the right cloud-based technology, can make this work for everyone - but it requires an agile and experimental approach. Mindful teamwork is the way Justin describes it, and being able to nurture ideas from the spark to production means involving the right people at the right time. Our in-house Visible Teamwork framework structures this concept around a set of principles and practices which work effectively in long-term distributed teams, so here's a quick reminder of the Deliberate communication - passing on the right information in the right way, from availability to ideas to soliciting input and sharing news. How and where do we share each kind of information, at the right time, and with the right people? Work visibility - from project management tools and dashboards to collaborative documents, we need ways (appropriate to what we do), to share what we're working on and the progress it's making - providing updates, seeking feedback, managing resources, and sharing ideas. Planned spontaneity - finally, we need ways to recreate the unscheduled, serendipitous communications and connections and possibilities, by creating environments and practices which support this. And yes, the shared office can be one tool we can use for this - but it is far from the only one. For more on the Visible Teamwork framework, please check out the following articles and episodes: Good bye "Working Out Loud"; Hello "Visible Teamwork" WLP241 Visible Teamwork and Trust in Remote Teams Applications of Visible Teamwork in Remote Teams — Virtual not Distant WLP239 Match Your Visible Teamwork to Your Team Task Workflow You can also download our free PDF guide by signing up for the newsletter in the box below, and learn how to put the ideas into practice in your own team via an in-house workshop.
My guest today has a beautifully intuitive gift for seeing your colors. A huge part of what I truly believe will unlock your ability to achieve your next level in sales and business success is to heal from past traumas, and learn how to powerfully leverage your gifts. Justin Morris uses his gift of reading colors to tell you how to manage your gifts and make your deepest impact. Justin has taken his life-long study of color, psychology, and an incredible intuitive gift for seeing the colors inherently attached to a person's soul and use them as a guide to get to the core issues people are facing. As a Life Coach, energy healer, and award-winning keynote presenter, he now teaches people to be the designer of their own life and use color to bring out the highest version of themselves. Color can affect you physically, psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. In our conversation, Justin explains how to identify specific colors and their meanings by using myself as an example. He helps you gain the courage to intentionally give equal opportunity to all the parts of yourself. You will find that this episode gives tips on how to truly step forward into a path of sustainable change. [12:30] - A sense of neutrality is the basic foundation of sustainable change. [13:31] - Sell from a place of wholeness to have a steadier foundation. [15:17] - Understand yourself to feel more grounded, and show gratitude for the gift in the chaos. Award-winning author Ana Menendez is called “a triple-threat” by Don in our 4th Sunday Long Read podcast—she's been a reporter, a columnist and is now a full-time fiction writer (and, last week, Ana was guest-curator of the SLR). In their 40-minute conversation, Don and Ana discuss their shared early days at The Miami Herald and the inspiration and writing tips of a joyous, Pulitzer Prize-wining editor named Gene Miller; the joys and difficulties of writing (and re-writing); the music and rhythm of the finest prose (and its poetic origins); and the wisdom and folly of reviewing one's own work 10 or 15 years later. Also, special thanks to Justin Morris for providing our new intro music.
Chris and Debbie Clark founded Children of the Nations (COTN) in 1995. Today, Children of the Nations is working in the USA, Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda and most recently in Haiti to provide care for orphaned and destitute children. Children of the Nations, through funding primarily from child sponsorship and individual donations, operates homes, schools, farms, skill centers, clinics, and village feeding centers in an effort to provide quality care for our children. Each country office is established with an individual mission-based, nonprofit organization and is recognized among reputable Christian charities. From the initial desire in 1995 to help children in Africa by “rescuing” them from their despair, to today—creating a family for each child—Children of the Nations has come so far. In 1995, Children of the Nations was started with a vision, and a monthly budget of $300. Today, Children of the Nations is a worldwide movement of people—over 400 US and international staff, tens of thousands of volunteers, an annual budget of more than $7 million, and a family that has grown to help thousands of children annually in Africa and the Caribbean.
