Podcasts from the Temple Honors Program. They're more entertaining than you'd imagine. We promise.
On Duncan's final episode, we take a look back at what we've done. Or not done. Thanks to him for all of his hard work over the last few years. Ruthless was his baby as much as anyone else's.

Shaking up our rigorous PhD lineup here, I’m bringing in my best friend and fellow Temple student Duncan Brady to talk about the seven deadly sins in pop culture! Some of our favorite TV shows, Lost and The Good Place, address the sins, and we also watched Seven for this episode, so there’s all sorts of good stuff to look forward to. From whether Desmond Hume is indeed sinful to “What’s in the box?!” to the wonderful side of human mortality, we hope you enjoy this bonus episode. To avoid spoilers, here are timestamps to everything! Feel free to skip around: 1:36 – Lost 27:23 – A message from Duncan for those of you who haven’t watched Lost or gave up on it 28:30 – Seven (contains discussion of sexual and violent content) 47:31 – The Good Place
This week, we welcome Dr. Devon Powers, an Advertising professor currently teaching an Honors class called "#trending" to talk about Envy! Providing a spin on what it means to be envious in the age of social media, Dr. Powers and I explore what it means to use social media, follow trends, and keep up with the Joneses (or Kardashians!).
This week on the podcast, we have one of the most fun episodes recorded thus far. I got to chat with Dr. Heather Levi, a food anthropologist, about one of my favorite sins: gluttony. We talk about food and eating cultures all over the world from Fiji to Niger to England to Mexico to Morocco to the US. If you love food, give it a listen. If you hate food, give it a listen. If you eat food, definitely give it a listen.
Dr. Jeffrey Boles, a Fulbright Scholar holding both a PhD in Psychology and a JD from UC Berkeley, comes on Deadly this week to talk about Greed. Dr. Boles has served as a litigator of white collar crime, giving him a unique perspective on greed and the greedy. Join us as we explore the upsides and downsides of greed.
This week on the podcast, I sit down with Dr. Genevieve Amaral to discuss the sin of Lust. We talk about the origins of Lust in Dante's Inferno and Purgatorio, applications of Lust in Proust's work, and what it means to be lustful. Most importantly, we get down to our central question: Is Lust a deadly sin?
This week, we're bringing in Amanda Neuber, the Associate Director of the Honors Program here at Temple and a PhD candidate in Psychology, to talk about Pride. Amanda's research focuses on high-achieving students who have been taught to be proud of their academic accomplishments, but what does that mean when combined with pressure to perform, prestige of career options, and changing your major? Of course, we toss around possible answers to whether or not Pride is deadly, but Amanda raises a more important question: is Pride burning the smart cookies?
Today on the pod we welcome Dr. Ruth Ost, an amazing educator and one of my all-time favorite human beings. A religion scholar and generally wise human being, Ruth brings in a new discussion about laziness, death, and sloths (as in the actual animal). So kick back, relax, and indulge in our last sin: sloth.
We're joined by Dr. Carissa Harris this week for our episode on Wrath. An expert on medieval literature and the professor who is teaching the course which inspired this podcast, Dr. Harris provides us with new takes on wrath. What did it look like in the Middle Ages? What does it look like now? Get ready for trials, alehouses, and shrews -- oh my!

We're a little punchy, a little rusty, and a little ready for school to start. Hope you enjoy, time to dive back in.
In a very special episode, we invite some special guests to look back at the 30 years of Honors. We taped this one live and it was a lot of fun to have a crowd.
Join Brad Pearson as he chats with Honors Prof. Devon Powers. Dr. Powers is teaching #Trending next semester. A course which dissects trends in consumer culture.
Huge announcement. We're taking Ruthless on the road...kind of. We'll be in Tuttleman 101 @ 1 PM on March 30th, recording with a live audience. We'll be celebrating Honors' 30th birthday with guests from the past and present, and hopefully future (that's you!). And what's a live audience good for if not asking questions. This will be our biggest (read: only) "call-in" show of all-time, so come armed with your questions.
Is the opposite of Ruthless Bradmore? There's only one way to find out. Join Duncan & Seth as they welcome Brad Pearson to the podcast for the first time. Trust us, you don't want to miss this.
In our first podcast of the semester, we discuss the way the new year feels like a time of renewal. Discuss some of our major life changes, and tease the heck out of our next episode.
In an exciting return, Ruth rejoins her podcast. We discussed playing games, heading home for the break, and what you should do when home. A note: In one of Ruth's stories, she wanted it known that the brother in question was only 3 years old when the story occurred.
Seth and Duncan get together to discuss all things scary: costumes, movies, and scariest moments. They're joined by some Honors students as well who share some of their Halloween memories.
It's a weird one. But, listen to our segue music and intro music! SO LEGIT! We talk about our slumps. We talk about our roommates. And never forget Ruth lies and we try to figure out the truth!
Ruth Ost, Senior Director of Temple Honors doles out advice, tells stories, banters with guests and generally charms you. Yes, you.
