The The Power Trip podcast is a show that I have been listening to for years, and I am continually impressed by how it just keeps getting better and better. Unlike most shows that tend to go downhill over time, this one seems to be on an upward trajectory. The cast of three hosts, Paul "Meatsauce" Lambert, Cory Cove, and Chris Hawkey, complement each other perfectly and create a dynamic that is both hilarious and entertaining.
One of the standout aspects of this podcast is the regular guest Zach Halverson, who is unlike anyone I have ever heard before. He has this ability to sound completely annihilated after drinking one minute and then sound completely normal the next. It's odd but incredibly intriguing, reminding me of Meatsauce from his earlier days in 2008-2009. Additionally, Tuesday through Thursday they have Mark Rosen, a Sports Media Hall of Famer who brings his knowledge of sports and love for movies to the show. He's even responsible for me knowing what the Alaskan Pipeline is, which is both interesting and irritating at times.
The chemistry between the hosts is undeniable, and their ability to make listeners laugh is unparalleled. I have never listened to a show that consistently delivers such humor like these guys do. They also have a great lineup of regular guests who enhance the show even further.
Overall, this podcast is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota (St. Louis Park) and offers a fantastic listening experience. Hawkey, Cory, Meatsauce (along with various other guests throughout the week) bring hilarity and must-listen shows every day! Some of my favorite segments include Duel of the Decades and Initals game.
However, there are a couple of aspects that could be improved upon in this podcast. One being the inclusion of the "like" girl on Tuesdays who doesn't add much substance to the show besides her looks and her marriage to an uninteresting hockey player. It would be great to see more raw female talent like Marney on the show consistently.
In conclusion, The Power Trip podcast is my favorite morning show by far. Even though I can only catch a small amount on the radio during my commute, I make sure to listen to the podcast once I get to work to stay caught up. The hosts make you feel like you're hanging out with friends who constantly make fun of each other and have a tendency to keep their minds in the gutter. They cover a variety of topics outside of sports, making for an engaging and entertaining listen. Despite their low-brow humor, they also know how to approach serious subjects with the necessary seriousness and intelligence. This show is simultaneously stupid but also stupid-good, and it's definitely worth a listen if you want to stay updated on sports, Twitter trends, rock music, and all things Minnesota.
