Maxx Cumby McGee has been planning the Gott Street Blues clothing brand since the 90s when she was one of a very few women in the construction world - life just delayed it. Maxx's story is both hillarious and eye opening; how she started in modeling at 19, and got into construction by making friends with the CEO of Anheuser-Busch, and showing up on her first day with a pink toolbox and men's work clothes that nearly got her injured because there were no women's work clothes. This is a longer episode, but I'll bet it goes by quicker than you expect, because Maxx is very entertaining, and this story about fashion for the workplace is fascinating! If you asked Maxx what GottStreet Blues is about, she would say,"Clothing for women doing physical labor, clothing that was made with women in mind, getting past vanity sizing, meeting comfort with functionality and fit for women specifically." We talk about this a lot because it's been a real issue for her at work, and it affects others today, as more women are entering the trades for work. GottStreet Blues is a sustainable clothing company for women who work in the trades - or women who have trouble finding clothes that really fit (raising my hand). Maxx's message she wants you to remember: "Trust yourself, you can do anything, anytime, at any age." SHOW NOTES: It's been a hot one out there, and some of us have been battling our own home issues, like Leslie's air conditioning woes. But we're here to lend a hand, no matter what you're tackling this summer! We've got a fantastic show lined up for you today, packed with expert advice and practical solutions for your biggest home challenges. Here's a sneak peek at what's coming up on The Money Pit: - Landscape Heatwave Survival: We'll dive into smart ways to help your lawn and garden survive scorching temperatures with essential watering tips, clever mowing tricks, and how to protect your sensitive potted plants from baking in the sun. - Roof Maxx Roof Rejuvenation: We're joined by Mike Feazel, CEO and co-founder of Roof Maxx, who will share how this innovative treatment can protect your roof from blistering heat, pounding storms, sun damage, thermal shock, and hail, extending roof life and helping you avoid costly replacements. - Concrete Resurfacing Solutions: Discover how to give your cracked, pitted, or weatherworn concrete surfaces a second life with products like Quickrete's Recap Trowel Grade Resurfacer. We'll explain how these solutions can dramatically improve your curb appeal at a fraction of the cost of tearing out and replacing old concrete, plus provide a durable, long-lasting finish. Q & A: - Karen from Texas is seeking a solution for her cracked driveway that won't involve tearing out all the concrete from her 1970s home. Quikrete's Re-Cap Resurfacer product is an excellent option for this repair and can be used over the existing concrete. - Jeff in Pennsylvania is curious about economically moving chilly basement air upstairs to cool the rest of his home. This isn't a great idea, and he should instead rely on his central HVAC system, possibly with a return duct in the finished basement. - Dave from Iowa calls about a persistent rotten egg smell in his farmhouse, noting he has well water and a water softener. We think the hot water heater's anode may be causing the smell. - Susan from Alaska wants advice on removing tile from her fireplace hearth and successfully painting the brick underneath. This repair has some challenges, and she should be prepared to remove adhesive. Also, once brick is painted, it's nearly impossible to change. - Lauren, who sent an email, has acquired a neglected property with overgrown ivy, gaps, and cracks in the siding. The best way to assess the house's current condition is to get a full home inspection, with a report that will identify the best places to start. Once rooted in Miami, the Zuupack members have now spread out across the country, with Maxx being one of the last to remain where the group started. While Maxx might not claim himself to be the leader of the Zuupack, it is clear that his creative vision has helped the crew get to where they are today. They were ultimately placed in the Laconia, New Hampshire, home of their maternal grandmother, Sherry Connor. Their mother, Danielle Vaughan, had experienced her mother's abuse firsthand and knew Sherry was mistreating and abusing her children. Over the next two years, DCYF received at least 27 reports of child abuse and neglect against the Vaughan children. Despite these warnings from Danielle and several others, including mandatory reporters, DCYF continually overlooked the increasingly egregious and shocking ways Sherry treated her grandchildren. Imagine the chaos of chasing a runaway golden doodle down a bustling street, all while juggling the surprise hit of a watermelon grape flavor and the pressures of an IVF journey. That's how our latest episode kicks off, blending personal tales with humor and heart. We find ourselves in stitches as we navigate through tales of hair loss and outdated magazines at the fertility clinic, offering a candid peek into Christian and Heidi's IVF adventure. Our chat wouldn't be complete without a sprinkle of business updates, celebrating the success of our product, 3D, now gracing the shelves of major retailers. Our conversation takes a strategic turn as we weigh the merits of billboard advertising against the precision of digital campaigns for our gym. From the ethics of cheeky marketing tactics to pondering the impact of technological advances on modern warfare, we leave no stone unturned. Anecdotes about military service and stereotypes offer lighthearted moments, while the emotional challenge of a pet undergoing chemotherapy brings a touch of gravity to our chat. We dig into the complexities of high-profile conspiracies and the elusive quest for accountability, all set against the backdrop of the Epstein scandal. As we wrap up, the episode takes a lighter note, roaming through the world of luxury cars, Botox, and the intrigue of celebrity scandals. Picture us rescuing lost dogs and reflecting on the quirks of public perception and lifestyle choices. We share a laugh over Kevin Durant and Kevin Hart mix-ups and indulge in the simple joys of Olive Garden dining. Whether it's dreaming of a $14,000 mattress or plotting weekly golf plans, our banter is spirited and engaging. Don't forget to join us on this ride—like, comment, subscribe, and leave a review! Meet Brenda “Maxx” McGee, founder of Gott Street Blues. After a career in construction, and as a model, Maxx saw a problem: workwear for women didn't fit women. It was just men's clothes with a smaller label. So, she decided to design gear that's made for the female form, with function and fit in mind. In this episode, Maxx shares her journey from job sites to fashion design, and why women in trades deserve better. To find out more about Maxx and her Gott Street Blues, visit https://gottstreetblues.com.Want to be a guest on Life Stories Podcast? Driving the popular Mazda CX-5 SUV today, Mazda’s top seller, it’s been around along time in ten models, a mix of petrol and diesel and front or all-wheel drive. Nohybrid but I’m told its coming. I drove the second tier 2.5-litre six-speed automaticCX-5 Maxx Sport front wheel drive - $43,184 drive-away, which included optionalSoul Red Chrystal Metallic paint at $795. A colour that has in many ways becomea trademark of Mazda. The CX-5 a good looker, still our fourth best-sellingmedium SUV, behind Toyota’s RAV4 and getting some strong competition thesedays from Kia’s Sportage and Hyundai’s Tuscon. I did nearly 900km in urban andcountry driving and it really surprised - well sorted, extremely comfortable forfour adults – the Maxx Sport well specified apart from the lack of wireless phonecharging and a power rear door. But it has dual zone air-conditioning with rearoutlets, a welcome head up display, a rather small 8-inch display screen on thedash but just so safe to use with a rotary dialer to let you scroll through a menu –so much safer than many of the new Chinese SUV’s with their large touchscreensand no active buttons. Warranty 5-years/unlimited km.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Further on Mazda’s long standing CX-5 SUV but still highly competitive with tenmodels in a mix of petrol and diesel and front or all-wheel drive, I’m driving thesecond tier 2.5-litre six-speed automatic CX-5 Maxx Sport front wheel drive at$43,184 drive-away with optional metallic paint. I covered nearly 900km with a lotof highway cruising at the open road limit. The naturally aspirated four-cylinderwith 140kW and 252Nm of torque did a workmanlike job but what surprised wasthe economy, averaging 7.4L/100km on 91 grade petrol with four passengers. This is simply a great allrounder, well shod 17-inch alloy wheels provide a verycomfortable ride while the electric power assistance offers good feel whilstparking and on the run. Comfort and convenience items include dual zone climatecontrol, satellite navigation, a head-up instrument display, well bolstered clothseats, a rear-view camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus a good level ofactive safety elements. Thankfully the warning elements are not intrusive likemany of the new breed of Chinese SUV’s. Disappointments – no wireless phonecharger and the lack of a power rear door. However, the Mazda CX-5 is still upthere as one of our best mid-size SUV’s.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of The Next Level Health & Fitness Podcast, we dive into a surprising topic: the potential dangers of relying too heavily on ChatGPT and other AI tools—especially when it comes to nutrition, fitness, and critical thinking. AI can be helpful, no doubt. But when it replaces real thought, personalization, and context, it can actually set people back. We break down where things go wrong—particularly in the nutrition space—and how blindly trusting AI advice can lead to confusion, misinformation, and poor results. We also explore new research showing that overuse of AI tools may be affecting brain development and reducing critical thinking skills in students and young adults. What You'll Learn: Why generic nutrition advice from AI can do more harm than good The importance of nuance and context in health and fitness How AI might be rewiring the way we think—and not in a good way How to use ChatGPT as a tool without outsourcing your brain The difference between information and wisdom—and why it matters This one's a call to stay sharp, think critically, and remember: technology is a tool—but you're the driver. This pic you see in the episode thumbnail was taken at an LA photo shoot back in 2002. I'm sharing it now because, in today's pod release, I include personal stories that challenge the gender binary. And if your brain is suddenly scrambling to try and figure me out, that feeling you have is the entire point of this episode. Rather than jumping to conclusions, I hope you'll listen in.Today's release takes a critical look at gender essentialism, the socially reinforced belief in a fixed gender binary. I kick things off with some personal stories, sharing why my girliest school photo is the cringiest, about the time I shaved my head in the early aughts, and the name of the book that had me performing "divine femininity" for over a decade. Newsflash: perimenopause can be a real bitch in the best possible way; I tell you how it's helping me shed the she-shoulds and embrace fuller expression of my humanity. I define gender essentialism and the politics that drive it, speak to how the film industry fails women who are dog-tired of performing womanhood, and offer up a reminder that cis folks are the top consumers of gender-affirming care. I speak about how the most popular nonfiction book from the 90s repackaged and reified gender norms for decades to come, then offer a deep bow and wholehearted shout-out to trans folks who bear the weight of virulent projections because of our collective unwillingness to grapple with social conditioning. Challenging gender essentialism means braving cognitive dissonance and disrupting social norms; this episode may push some long-ago-installed buttons. Before you decide how you feel about it, I encourage you to listen to the entire episode AND explore every resource provided in the show notes (there are lots of folks expressing this stuff better than I can). You might be surprised where it lands you.Referenced in this episode:The Cult of Gender w/ Maxx (TDP #70) w/ Maxx, Troy, & LainieElder Wisdom (TDP #23) w/ Katherine HowellsGender Trouble (Book), by Judith ButlerIf Books Could Kill (Podcast) - Men Are From Mars (Critique)ALOK: Biology! Ram Dass explores the culture surrounding LSD in 1977, and how he has no desire to legislate how other people live their lives. He shares his guru's instructions for using the “yogi medicine” and talks about whether or not it's important to have a guide for psychedelic experiences. Finally, Ram Dass cautions that “getting high and seeing” is only one part of the process of change, and there are inner processes necessary to bring about change in life. He discusses the cultural evolution brought about by psychedelics and the shifts in consciousness he sees taking place. The Ram Dass community gathers regularly to engage in meaningful discussions about the podcast. We invite you to join us and share your curiosities, insights, and wisdom.
