Please visit: AllAboutJack.Podbean.com As previously noted, 2013 was a very busy year. In fact today I have a show that was recorded before the end of last year, but with the breaking news of a CS Lewis movie called Jack & Tollers and other end of the year shows I didn't get to post it until now. In late November, 2013 the New York C.S. Lewis Society held a special event to honor Lewis on the 50th anniversary of his death. One of the speakers was William Griffin, an editor and writer who did the unique biography on Lewis in the 1980's called C.S. Lewis: A Dramatic Life. In the UK the book was published as C.S. Lewis: The Authentic Voice. Griffin also edited The Joyful Christian, a book containing over 100 passages from Lewis's religiously themed writings. Purchase C.S. Please visit: AllAboutJack.Podbean.com Over the last year I've had the privilege of interviewing many individuals. I checked the data of what shows were downloaded the most and the following podcast shares some of them. The program is just over 30 minutes, so I only share some brief moments from them. Check the links below to listen to those entire shows (and learn what I highlight). I also provide a second list of links to shows I didn't include in the recap (because they were in the last two months) that were among the top downloads for the year. In this continuation of In a Perfect World 33, experiential journalist Rak Razam interviews author and academic Robert Forte about the origins of the Psychedelic Movement and manipulation by the power elites as a social engineering tool for control of the dominant paradigm. This far-ranging discussion covers Huxley, Wasson, Hofmann, Leary et.al and the social milieu and the role of the CIA and elite steering of the dissemination of psychedelics in the West and the vested interests behind them that have culminated in the global police state that confronts us today. The medical, spiritual and religious arms of the movement are dissected in light of the political agendas that control civilization, as Forte and Razam examine the revolution of the 60s and the revolutionary times we now live through. They ask the critical question: is the commodification of the modern psychedelic movement a prelude to global Soma, and can individuals awaken to their own cosmic sovereignty before it's too late? ROBERT FORTE, AMRS, began his work with psychedelics as a student of Stanislav Grof and Frank Barron, cofounder of the Harvard Psilocybin Project. He obtained his master’s degree under Mircea Eliade and has collaborated with many of the leaders in the field of psychedelics, including R. Gordon Wasson, Timothy Leary, and Huston Smith. A former director of the Albert Hofmann Foundation, he teaches at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Forte's seminal book, Entheogens and the Future of Religion, with contributions by Albert Hofmann, R. Gordon Wasson, Jack Kornfield, Terence McKenna, the Shulgins, Rick Strassman, and others is now back in print, with all proceeds going to support the Council on Spiritual Practices work with psilocybin research. Writing music is the first step. For many that is enough. For me, I want to usually work it out with a band, to draw upon the creative juices of others and to hear it a bit closer to what I hear in my head but cannot produce myself, because I can only sing, play guitar and create percussion (and even this not all at once - and the live part of it all is not to be underestimated.) This is a rehearsal with my German band [Steffi Weiss - keys/vocals; Petra Wolfsperger - recorder; Christian Mees - bass] (we even created some German lyrics for the song specifically this.) As is usual this was recorded on the Palm Tungsten which records mono and does a very poor job of dealing with clipping and audio that gets too "hot". That is part of the roughness of what works. The raw material provides insight into discussions, general direction and more that you will need to discover for yourself and to which you are warmly welcomed. I should note that this was the first and only time we got together on this tune. It was performed 3 days later. The original post on this song is RoughMix episode 108 - http://ruffmix.com/entry/2008-02-22T03_05_53-08_00 where I shared two versions of what I did in the original writing of the tune.
