Oscar Quintero is an actor, writer, producer, Tupperware Diva and alter-ego to Kay Sedia, International Model from Tijuana. Kim and Luis chat with Oscar about growing up one of six kids in Hacienda Heights, a suburb of Los Angeles, working at a supermarket seafood counter (and being invited to leave because of his drug use), getting clean, creating his drag alter-ego, Kay Sedia for the show/fundraiser, "Quest for the Crown" (which would eventually become "Best in Drag Show"), meeting Mr. Dan, owner of Dragstrip 66 and their seven year collaboration, creating and performing in the long-running underground hit, "Chico's Angels", a latin drag queen version of "Charlie's Angels", plus his many acting and producing projects, raising a son, and how he came to slay the Tupperware game.
Your hosts, Oombi and Queen Bestia, answer listener questions, get angry about the 1,475 children that were "lost", and taco-bout their recent experience at the Chico's Angels cho.
This week, on a late night (and slightly toasty) episode of High-Dere, we confirm our masculinity by going to a drag show. At the top of the show, we talk about early childhood and 1st grade before we hear some jokes written by Joe in the middle of the night. Then we get distracted by Mario. Then, with special guest Stacey Danger, we talk about Chico’s Angels, an Off Broadway play starring 3 latinas (in drag) playing a very caricature-ish version of Charlie’s Angels. After a commercial break we talk about the popularity of Jesus, our involvement in the colonization of Mars, and our thoughts on Michael Jackson. All this and much more on this week’s episode of High-Dere. This week, we invite Nicolas Cage on the show. Check out Stacey and Fitzgerald on Instagram. And keep your eye out for Dinner with Danger And if you wanna get real, and we mean real, tweet us.
For this pre-Halloween epsiode, Dennis heads to the Dunny-filled West Hollywood apartment of actor Danny Casillas to talk with Danny and his cohort in comedy Oscar Quintero about their show "Sketchy Queens 3-D", which opens Wednesday, October 29th at the Cavern Club Theater in Silver Lake. They share the origin stories of their drag alter egos, Reba Areba (Danny) and Kay Sedia (Oscar) and discuss their 11 year-old cult hit "Chico's Angels," the Latina drag parody of "Charlie's Angels" that they perform regularly with Ray Garcia as Angel #3. Also on the agenda: how doing drag affects dating, the terror of having to pump your own gas in full drag and the deliriously entertaining Carol Burnett Show-esque cracking up that often happens when they're performing together. The pair's respective passions are also dissected; for Danny, it's Broadway Broadway Broadway. For Oscar, it's beauty pageants and he has some incredible anecdotes about the quests for the crown he's been witness to.
We are proud to unseal the beauty, the glamour and the wonderful experience that is Kay Sedia. THE #1 Tupperware Salesperson, Kay is the hilarious creator of Chico's Angels and Feliz Navi Divas. Kay treated us to a heartwarming and genuinely touching view into her childhood and the love she has for her mother. You should visit her website and book her for your next Tupperware party (true!) Keep an eye out for our next live show in Los Angeles or New York! Our theme song was written and performed by Steve O'Reilly with lead vocals by Karen Rockower Glass.
In Episode 21, Trev and AJ talk about Trev's new side business, musicians "versus" actors, and putting your life on hold to jump into one project immediately following another, last minute style, dialects and multiple characters and all. Then Trev sits down with Chico's Angels masterminds Oscar Quintero and Kurt Koehler to talk about creating your own work and the value of playing to stereotype in comedy. Total running time: 1:05:08.
