MagaMama with Kimberly Ann Johnson: Sex, Birth and Motherhood
Liz Koch rejoins me for a third interview, this time to discuss whiteness and colonization in the body. We explore how those pieces show up in the physical body and sensory systems, why it matters, and the importance of physical movement in anti-racism. What Liz Shares: The interconnection between how we use our bodies and our racialization of bodies Racialized movement patterns Recognizing racialized nervous system responses How the idealized body in fitness is not only white, but also male, and how that impacts female fitness What You’ll Hear: Noticing how performative behaviors re-iterate a frozen spine Changing our view to see Body as Process, rather than Body as Object Valuing the expressivity of the human body Re-assessing the idealized human body to include expression Developing your sense of self through knowing primal responses Examining your ancestral relationship with colonization Using movement patterns to re-enforce or interrupt white body supremacy Engaging with your psoas to feel more grounded Letting go of control as decolonization Becoming available for genuine responses rather than socialized reactions Questioning what whiteness looks like in the white female body Tracking subtle whiteness Healing ancestral trauma through owning your Eros Decolonization as an ecological imperative Participating in society as a community member, not as an individual Re-membering into culture and community and out of strategy The more animal you are, the more human you become Animal body as coherence Pre-empting anti-racial work through movement and the sensory system If your body can’t move, you can’t feel your instincts Resources: https://coreawareness.com/ IG: @stalkingwildpsoas Liz Koch is an international teacher and author with 42 years of experience, focusing on kinesthetic intelligence and somatic awareness. This Sunday, Pastor Ashley Edwards challenges the Church to ask the Lord greatly, even for the small things. Don't live your life on autopilot. Build a history with the Lord as He proves His faithfulness with you. God asks us to pursue Him relentlessly so He can give you unlimited access to Him. Psalm 84:11 says, "No good thing will He withhold from those whose walk is blameless." Let God build you up to be effective.
Listen in this Sunday as Pastor Malik Edwards shares a message on Praise. God calls us, His Church, to come to Him with praise and thanksgiving. He is rebuilding the Tabernacle of David in this new generation—a place where we have continuous access to the Father, a place where we should enter in with continuous praise. We believe that praise knocks down barriers and brings the future into the now. In this season, God is bringing His people to the high places to sing His praise.
Listen this Sunday as Pastor Tim Campbell continues the series on Core Expressions with his message about Faith. As Paul’s letter to the Romans says, every man is given a measure of faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Faith requires a deep trust and reliance on God, a surrendering of one’s will to Him. After all, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Pastor Tim advises us to search our hearts and find out the things we have put our faith in instead of God and to re-establish our connection, our faith, in Him.
“He who rose Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because His Spirit lives in you.” Join Relentless family and friends on this Resurrection Sunday, as Pastor Malik Edwards brings a message on living an unhindered life. Because Jesus Christ was risen from the dead, we have the power and glory of God on our side to sweep away distractions and delays from the enemy. We can take confidence in the fact that because the grave didn’t hold Him down, nothing can hold us down either. On the day of Jesus’ resurrection, he defeated death itself, and a life free from death is a life free from fear. Paul’s letter to the Romans challenges us to constantly walk in newness of life, because God is always doing something new in our lives. Happy Resurrection Day! He is Risen!
For the second message in the Core Expressions series, Pastor Malik Edwards talks about love and honor. 1 John 4:7 says, “Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” Just as God loved us first in our sinful state, He calls us to love others. In this context, to love someone means to prefer them before ourselves. We, as a Church, want to make people our priority. Pastor Malik and Pastor Ashley also discusses the importance of biblical confrontation as an expression of love.
Join Pastor Malik Edwards this Sunday as he begins a new series called “Core Expression”. Pastor Malik brings a message on living a life of freedom by expressing God’s image. Since we manifest whatever we value in our lives, we must learn to keep our minds on Christ in order to be transformed into His image. And this process starts with a choice to believe in God’s attributes. Listen, also as Pastor Malik joins a table discussion with Virginia Price and Tina Walker about authenticity. Just as God is authentic in Himself, so must we strive towards authenticity in our own lives. Learn what it means to be authentic.
