How We Relate to Others: 5. We dive into Romans to hear how we are to show love and honor to each other.
Ex. 20:1-2, 12; Mark 7:1-13 -- The religious leaders sought to criticize Jesus through his disciples because they did not follow the traditions of the elders. Jesus calls out their hypocrisy — though they honored their ancestors with their lips, they did not honor God within their hearts. True honor of our parents, and ultimately our heavenly father, can be accomplished by faith in the Son of God who obeyed to the point of death on the cross on our behalf.

Christians are called to be the "best citizens" of their country without capitulating to commands from governing forces that are contrary to God's word. Government and the church is an age-old question and Peter takes it on in a practical manner.

On this episode we talk about the energetic power of choice and grace as a virtue. Most people experience life through a closed fist yet love requires a softer landing. To honor a thing is to love it fully; even in fault. That is the grace of returning.

For the second message in the Core Expressions series, Pastor Malik Edwards talks about love and honor. 1 John 4:7 says, “Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” Just as God loved us first in our sinful state, He calls us to love others. Johnny and Kevin are fighting colds but back for the fifteenth episode of the podcast! They begin by recapping the quite bland movie Love and Honor (2:20) and picking a new movie to watch from the refreshed with bad movies bowl (16:45). Johnny takes a few minutes to read a few words from our sponsors (21:45) and the two discuss Facebook’s potential demise in the Cambridge Analytica scandal (30:55). Finally, Johnny gives a shout out to musician and friend of the pod Will Robinson for providing some new tracks (41:35).
Johnny and Kevin are back watching the movie Love and Honor, a movie set in the rarely discussed 1960s. Listen along as the two cringe through the romantic plots and most of the lines coming out of Liam Hemsworth’s mouth. A muddled and confusing plot matches muddled and confusing characters in this muddled and confusing movie that only made $16,000 at the box office. Johnny and Kevin also celebrate a Sunday Brunch recording by eating some cinnamon rolls. Green tint! *Please note Safe Haven was taken off Netflix at the time of the recording, so Love and Honor was chosen. It has a 5.7 on IMDB and 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s bad.

As we learn to apply Jesus' teaching to be other-centered in our marriages, we can move from the crazy cycle to the energizing cycle and ultimately to the rewarded cycle. Bob taught that the bottom line is that the wife is to give her husband the gift of respect and the husband is to give his wife the gift of love.
