Sunday, June 29, 2025 – Pastor Mike is continuing our study on the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, focusing today on Truth #10, “The Church and Its Mission.” We discussed the biblical identity of the Church—not as a building or denomination, but as the living Body of Christ, the very dwelling place of God through the Spirit. Each believer, born of the Spirit, belongs to the heavenly assembly— which is the Church Jesus came to establish on earth. One of the most important truths from today’s message is that our citizenship is not of this world, but in Heaven. We examined the divine missions given to the Church: to evangelize the lost, to worship God together, to build up and disciple believers into the likeness of Christ, and to demonstrate God’s love through acts of compassion. This sermon was both a reminder and a challenge—Christ didn’t build His Church to stay still, but to move forward in His mission with power, purpose, and passion.

Email us at podcast@pursueGOD.org.Donate Now --How the Church WorksBig Idea: God designed his Church to involve his people in key purposes that bring about his plans in this world. No other organization on earth compares to the Church. It's not simply a building or a weekend service. It's the living body of Christ, chosen and designed by God to carry out his mission in the world. From the very beginning, Jesus made it clear that he would build his Church—and not even the powers of hell could stop it. (Matthew 16:18)Let's unpack how the Church works by looking at four core truths from Scripture.1. There Is One True ChurchWhen Jesus spoke of “my church” in Matthew 16:18, he wasn't referring to a specific building or religious organization. The Greek word for church is ekklesia, meaning “the called-out ones”—a gathering of people summoned for a purpose. The Church Jesus established is the community of all true believers in Jesus throughout history. This is sometimes called the “Universal Church.”It's important to understand that the Universal Church transcends denominations, traditions, and geographic locations. No single church or association can claim to be “the one true Church.” The true Church consists of everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The Bible uses powerful imagery to help us understand the nature of the Church:The Bride of Christ (Revelation 19:7) reflects the intimate and loving relationship between Jesus and his people.A Spiritual Family and Nation (Ephesians 2:19) shows how believers belong to one household, united under God's rule.A Temple and a House (Ephesians 2:20-21) describes how we are being built together as a dwelling place for God's Spirit.2. Jesus Is the Head of His ChurchColossians 1:18 makes it clear: Christ is the head of the Church, which is his body. This means Jesus himself is in charge. He leads through the truth of the Bible, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and through biblically qualified leaders like elders and pastors.Jesus guides the Church like a shepherd leads his flock. In 1 Peter 5:1-4, elders are instructed to care for God's people with humility and a servant's heart, always pointing back to the Chief Shepherd—Jesus. While the Universal Church is invisible and eternal, it takes visible form through local churches. These are the communities where believers gather for worship, teaching, fellowship, and mission. Though no single local church represents the entirety of the Universal Church, each one is a part of the larger body of Christ, carrying...

You Are the Light of the World Authority and Responsibility Pastor Bryan Hudson, D.Min. Matthew 5:13, You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Main Themes: 1. Identity & Purpose Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” and “salt of the earth.” The church must understand its purpose not just as a community, but as a force for good in the world. We're not called to shine in the church only, but in the world—where light is needed most. The Lighthouse Analogy: A lighthouse doesn't remove the rocks or calm the sea, but it shines light to guide ships away from danger. Similarly, believers are called to shine in dark places, helping others avoid destruction. Challenges to Shining: We cannot shine effectively if we are living in darkness ourselves. God wants to make us blameless and harmless, as Philippians 2:15 says, so that we can shine in a crooked generation. Real-Life Application: Light = Good Works + Godly Living + Justice Shining includes helping the weak, standing for justice, and living righteously, not just evangelizing. Examples from scripture (Micah 6:8, Isaiah 1:17, Acts 20:35) support this. Biblical Justice & DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion): These values are biblical, not just political: Diversity: Revelation 7:9 Equity: Proverbs 2:9, 2 Samuel 8:15 Inclusion: Nehemiah 8:10, Jeremiah 22:3 Believers must not remain silent when injustice occurs but shine the light of truth and compassion. Authority of the Church: Jesus gave spiritual authority to His church (Matthew 16:19). We are to bind and loose in alignment with heaven, standing against darkness wherever God assigns us. Who is the Church? The church is not a building but people called by God (Ecclesia). We are the church wherever we go and must reflect Christ in action and truth. Conclusion: Your light must shine where it is needed—in society, politics, schools, neighborhoods. Don't hide your light. Let others see your good works and glorify God. “We all shine differently, but we are all called to shine.”

The Church thrives when it shifts from a consumer mindset to a contributor mindset, where every believer plays a role in God's mission. If we truly want to be the victorious Church Jesus envisioned, we must step up, serve, and fulfill the Great Commission together.
When we practice our faith in Jesus, He is amazed! We must learn to submit under the authority of Jesus in all things, accepting what He has in store for us and bringing others to Him so that they, too, may experience His mercy and grace.

January 15, 2025 Today's Reading: Ezekiel 37:15-28Daily Lectionary: Ezekiel 37:15-28; Romans 6:1-23“My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes” (Ezekiel 37:24)In the Name of Jesus. Amen. A united nation under Solomon was ripped apart following his death. A carousel of kings would follow in both kingdoms, most of them being evil. Over time, Israel would succumb to their sins with stiff necks and hard hearts towards all the prophets' pleas for repentance.Ezekiel, like the other prophets, doesn't mince words. He calls out Israel's filthy sins, begging for her repentance. As the imminent exile approaches God's rebellious flock, His mercy, love, and faithfulness don't disappear. The LORD's promise to make Abraham a father of “many nations” doesn't fade, considering Israel's horrid sins. Even her idolatry and unbelief don't rouse God to forsake His Word to Abraham eternally. In this reading, we see the mercy, love, and faithfulness of God. Fragmented and scattered, ransacked by sin, idols, and “detestable things,” God promises to untie and make “one nation” in the land on the mountains of Israel (v22). At first, it might seem like a geographical promise and a return to prestige, glory, and power, surpassing the kingships of David and Solomon. However, further reading indicates this unity transcends earthly boundaries. David is long dead by this point, and yet God says, “My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd.” God promises His sanctuary forevermore in their midst twice (v26 and v28). God is promising something more, something greater than earthly land with temporal kings. The fulfillment of Ezekiel's preaching, God's inspired Word, comes in the establishment of the Church under the “Son of David,” the “Good Shepherd” Himself, Jesus. The Holy Christian Church is the one “body” of believers united always in Christ Who is the Head of His Church and Shepherd of His people. This is God's work to gather and unite, to build a Church Jesus “obtained with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). Thus, we shouldn't despair over a fragmented world. We shouldn't panic and fear all the divisions wrought by Satan. God unites His Church, and Hell can't tear it asunder. This is our courage to strive patiently for unity on earth. The Church walks boldly in the ways of God, heeding His Word and resting in peace, for she's not alone. Always at the Head is the Good Shepherd, the One Who has established His Kingdom forever. Reigning even now is Jesus, Who died to make us the people of His pasture, “heirs of God” and “fellow heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). In the Name of Jesus. Amen.“O Comforter of priceless worth, Send peace and unity on earth; Support us in our final strife And lead us out of death to life” (LSB 655:3)-Rev. Perhaps the most mysterious book of the Bible -- Revelation -- begins with messages from Jesus to seven churches in the ancient world. But saints and scholars alike have long noted that these messages apply to us as well. How? That's what Dr. Chris is going to discuss in a short series on the opening chapters of the book of Revelation. In this episode, we will finish our look at Jesus' message to the church in Pergamum and begin to look at His message to Thyatira. Enjoy!

"If politics is robbing you of peace, you might have misplaced your trust." Mic drop please for the quote above from today's show. Today the Pastor of my church Bent Tree Bible, Libin Abraham, joins us to dive into the tricky (but important) topic of Christians engaging in politics. We talk about how it's not just about showing up—it's about being prayerful, peaceful, prophetic, powerful, and purposeful. But the big reminder here? Our top loyalty is to Jesus, not any political party. We're here to make disciples, not stir up more division. Aside from talking about Christians engaging in politics, Libin also encourages us to trust in God's faithfulness, and that stepping out in faith is key as we do that—I love how Libin says that God moves at the pace of our next “yes.” So if you're feeling pulled to act, trust that God's right there with you. And don't let politics, fear, or anything else get in the way of your gospel influence. I can't wait for you to hear today's show and I'd love for you to share it with friends. Making Room in the Church: Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Because of his heart for people, Jesus was willing to be interrupted by Bartimaeus, Zacchaeus, and so many others. They believed in him, and he offered healing and forgiveness and changed their life into a testimony to the goodness of God. Jesus still seeks the lost today. Therefore, we must make room for more people in our church. Recorded on Sep 15, 2024, on Luke 18:35-19:10 by Pastor David Parks. Make Room is a three-part sermon series considering the need to make room 1) for more of God in our lives, 2) for more people in our lives, and 3) for more people in our church. Why? Because more people need good news! More people need the life and love, the freedom and forgiveness, and so much more that is only found in Christ. Our prayer is that in the coming years, many more people will experience the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sermon Transcript Well, today, we're finishing up our mini sermon series called Make Room to talk about some of the Biblical foundations of our 2030 Vision. We said that this series and our 2030 Vision plan are the result of a process our elder board spent months on — listening, learning, praying, and talking together about who we are as a church, where God is bearing fruit, and where we believe God is leading us in the next 5-7 years. We also said that one of the things that became clear is that for this next season of life, we do not believe that God is leading us in a dramatically new direction. We don't need to reinvent our mission, vision, or values. Instead, the phrase that kept coming up in this process was “make room.” So, for the last few weeks, we've been talking about our need to make room 1) for more of God in our lives, 2) for more people in our lives, and today, 3) for more people in our church. This is what our 2030 Vision is all about. But this vision isn't something that might happen months or years from now. We're actually starting to see parts of our 2030 Vision happening this month as we multiply our community groups, serving opportunities on our ministry teams, worship services, and more. Down the road, if it's God's will, we'll see expansion in kid's and student ministry, pastoral staffing, building facilities, and perhaps another church plant; who knows! But first, today, we need to count the cost. When Jesus invited men and women to follow him, he challenged them to count the cost. Would they still be willing to follow him even if they had to give up everything? Now, I'm not saying we might have to give up everything to accomplish our 2030 Vision. But the truth is that change can be painful/uncomfortable. Even change for the best can still be hard. All the things I just mentioned will make room for more, but they will also bring changes around here. So today, we'll consider why we need to make room for more people in our church — why we need to go through the potential pain of change. Will we be willing to pay the cost? If you have your Bible/app, please open it to Luke 18:35. We'll unpack this text as we go. Luke 18:35–38 (NIV), “35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by. 38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The book of Luke was written by a man who most likely became a Christian through the ministry of the Apostle Paul. Luke was a physician who did a careful investigation into the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and then wrote a history of the early church. These works are both in the NT as the book of Luke and Acts. Luke was alive during the time of the Apostles and interviewed eyewitnesses who saw/heard/experienced the person and work of Jesus. Our account today has lots of potential witnesses. Luke writes that Jesus was approaching Jericho with a whole crowd of people.
