Stephanie and John talk about the academic data science portfolios. What are they? How are they different than industry data science portfolios or more traditional academic portfolios? Also check out the bloopers at the end! Some good links about portfolios and examples are: https://davidventuri.com/portfolio, https://www.dataquest.io/blog/build-a-data-science-portfolio/. We discuss data driven curriculum vitae (CV), including the package by Nick Strayer: https://github.com/nstrayer/datadrivencv. Additional tools are the scholar (https://cran.r-project.org/package=scholar), gcite (https://cran.r-project.org/package=gcite), and rscopus (https://cran.r-project.org/package=rscopus) packages. Disclaimer: John wrote gcite and rscopus. We acknowledge the impetus for gcite was from this blog post by Jeff Leek: https://simplystatistics.tumblr.com/post/13203811645/an-r-function-to-analyze-your-google-scholar. **DISCLAIMER** - John and Gregg are not role models. While they are human, they are about to delve into the world of the most uncouth of cartoons. Some of the things they will talk about and language they use to describe things would cause pearls to be clutched, blood pressure to rise, and hopefully not get John deported. To put it another way, don't listen at work or around kids at home. Listener discretion is advised... Buttmunch! WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about the 2nd best cartoon of the 90's. MTV's Beavis and Butthead. We look at the characters and how Butthead was supposed to be the star, with Beavis as his sidekick. We discuss how rights issues scrapped one of the planned spin offs, but how the replacement was well worthy of it being a standalone. We look at the top episodes, the controversies that almost cancelled the show before it could get up and running, Mike Judge the creator, everything you could think of! Also John give more information on the Because Maybe 2020 charity event, an update on our upcoming Oddworld series, and the usual bits and nonsense. Thanks to Gregg Gregory for taking part this week. To see Gregg stream some classic video games check out his Twitch channel! The Because Maybe Mustache and Mullet Drive 2020 is underway! Check out our Fundraiser Page for more information. All proceeds will go to the Movember Foundation!  Check out Because Maybe on social media: Facebook | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram | Blog Music Credits: Disclaimer: Maple Leaf Rag – Heftone Banjo Orchestra – Free Music Archive Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) Theme: The Spellbreaker by Tri-Tachyon – Free Music Archive Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Intermission Green Lights by Jahzzar – Free Music Archive Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International

Welcome back to the ModState Podcast. **Disclaimer** John meant to say Loretta Lynch when referencing Susan Rice and Joe Biden. In this episode John and Nate dive into two different topics. The topics meld together through the episode. Nate proposes that the GOP are at a pivotal time to rebrand themselves from the party of Trump to the party of the GOP they once were. Throughout the episode the conversation pivots to tough questions for Nate. The overall national conversation has been about race, social justice, and a new America. How should we be helping underprivileged communities. Is a Biden presidency just another crony administration? Or is it a way to reset? Race can be a tricky topic to navigate as two white male hosts. In an effort to move forward in America. The goal should be to create a more equitable society so there are ample opportunities for listening and conversation.
