Dogstrustusa.org Saving Dogs and Fighting Rabies with Dogs Trust USA's Owen Sharp About the Guest(s): Owen Sharp is the Director and President of Dogs Trust USA, appointed in July 2019. With a rich history in leadership roles within the non-profit and healthcare sectors, Sharp previously served as the Global CEO and Executive Director of the Movember Foundation in Culver City, California, and has had an impactful tenure as the CEO of Prostate Cancer UK. A trained nurse from Glasgow, Scotland, Owen is also honored with a doctorate from Glasgow Caledonian University. His passion for animal welfare, particularly dogs, is matched by his personal commitment to animal rescue and advocacy. Episode Summary: In this episode of The Chris Voss Show, host Chris Voss engages with Owen Sharp, President of Dogs Trust USA, for an insightful discussion about the critical issues facing dog welfare today. Sharp, with his extensive background in leadership and dog welfare, sheds light on the staggering challenges animal shelters face, from overpopulation and economic pressures to the rising abandonment rates following the COVID-19 pandemic. The conversation traverses the importance of education and responsible dog ownership as a means to alleviate these issues. Sharp discusses the ambitious goals set by Dogs Trust USA to tackle poorly managed dog populations, improve physical welfare, and address the deaths caused by rabies internationally. Emphasizing the necessity for affordable spay and neuter programs and veterinary care, he urges for a committed community effort to support shelters in the US. By understanding the intricacies of training and matching the right dog to the owner, as well as creating awareness around rabies prevention, these measures promise to enhance dog welfare significantly and save countless lives. Key Takeaways: Dogs Trust USA focuses on the crucial areas of population management, low-cost veterinary care, and rabies prevention to improve dog welfare globally. COVID-19 has significantly increased dog abandonment rates, as many people adopted pets during lockdowns without fully understanding the responsibilities, leading to crowded shelters. Achieving responsible pet ownership starts with selecting the right dog for one's lifestyle and ensuring proper training and socialization. Rabies is a major global health problem, with one person dying from it approximately every 8-9 minutes worldwide. Dogs Trust strives for the total elimination of canine-mediated rabies. Supporting local shelters can be done through donations, volunteering, and fostering dogs, contributing to sustainable solutions in the welfare community. Notable Quotes: "If you have the right knowledge, if you have the right skills, nearly all of those behavioral issues can be avoided." – Owen Sharp "Our ambition is to halve the number of human deaths from rabies in the next five years." – Owen Sharp "It's not just saying, 'I want a dog,' and I want that one that I've seen for whatever reason, be it fashion, or a TV show." – Owen Sharp "We need to educate people about the type of dog that they get." – Owen Sharp "Rabies is 100% preventable—there is a vaccine that exists that you can give to animals." – Owen Sharp

Through conversations about the Alec Model, we learn the power of asking, listening without judgement, encouraging action, and checking back in. Exploring the nuanced aspects of masculinity and vulnerability, our guest underscores the need for redefining strength as an attribute that includes emotional expression and empathy. The reverberations of the Covid-19 pandemic on men's mental health are also put under the microscope, as we discuss the importance of altruistic collaborations and the steps Movember is taking to support men re-entering the workforce. In our final stride, we touch upon the unacknowledged collective grief brought about by the pandemic and the ways to process it on a personal level. The episode underlines the fact that men's health is not just a November concern, but a year-round priority. So, come along on this enlightening journey with us, as we redefine, rediscover, and reclaim men's health, one mustache at a time.Head to Movember.com to donate or, create your own fundraising page.Support the showAdditional Resources: Subscribe/Rate/Review on iTunes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: >>>HEREEnroll Here

Meet Kurt!   I am so excited to have had him join me on The Natasha Helfer podcast!   In his daily life, Kurt Reinhardt leads a successful career as a consultant, cherishes his role as a devoted partner and loving father, occasionally embarks on adventures, and is an enthusiastic amateur gastronaut. However, over the past decade, Kurt has also been a passionate advocate for men's health and suicide prevention. He annually spearheads a campaign known as "Dyeing to Stop Men Dying" to raise funds for the Movember Foundation, a prominent charitable organization dedicated to addressing global concerns related to men's mental health, suicide prevention, and prostate and testicular cancer.   Recognized by his signature beard, Kurt has decided to use this distinctive feature for a meaningful purpose. Every dollar contributed during his October campaign serves as a vote to determine the colors he will dye his beard with throughout the entire month of November, often referred to as "Movember." This creative initiative transforms Kurt into a walking advertisement for critical men's health issues.   Kurt's achievements have gained him recognition on an international salon blog, where he was showcased alongside men from various parts of the world. Additionally, he has also been featured on our local Fox news station, further underscoring his impact and contributions.   Intro ("Fisher's Hornpipe") and outro by Otter Creek Podcast edited by: Ashley Pacini

Derek is the #1 International Best-Selling Author of “Stop Stalling Start Selling”, and is in the process of completing his second book “Hero Behind Bars” (May 2023). He is a Leader, Tedx Speaker (2023), and Business Consultant whose practice focuses on Resilience Development and Process Implementation. In this episode, Derek shares his journey from leaving the corporate world to founding his consulting firm while promoting the idea of being an everyday human. He emphasizes the separation between past and future, encourages people to find their identity, and discusses the concept of self-acceptance. We also touch on Maslow's hierarchy of needs and the importance of moderation in life. Derek discusses his philanthropic work with AM Loops and Give Cancer the Middle Finger charity, sharing touching stories of individuals who donated generously towards cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. He believes that philanthropy should be introduced as a concept from the beginning of starting a business and that giving is euphoric. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who wants to make positive changes in their lives, find self-acceptance and live a fulfilling life. [00:00 – 15:21] Escaping Hero Culture and Embracing the Power of Nothing·      Derek is the founder of Sacred Line Consulting, a bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and creator of Give Cancer the Middle Finger charity.·      He helps people understand their ability to be present and escape the hero culture to be an everyday human.·      Derek left the corporate world because they wouldn't give him an hour to spend with his kids.·      Derek's message is about embracing the power of nothing and understanding that everything has the opportunity to happen in the present moment. [15:21 - 25:11] Unlocking the Power Within·      Derek discusses how to make positive changes without needing a traumatic event to motivate it.·      The focus is on understanding that events of the past do not dictate the future and finding purpose in difficult situations.·      Derek encourages supporting underdogs and helping people uncover their true identity rather than conforming to societal expectations.·      Derek talks about Maslow's hierarchy of needs and why it should be simplified to end at self-acceptance. [25:11 - 35:58] Finding Contentment and Balance in Life·      Understanding that we are where we need to be leads to contentment and the power to make immediate change.·      Opportunity recreates itself continually, giving us the chance for exponential growth.·      It's important to balance drive and being present in the moment.·      Building one's purpose and why around serving others can lead to significant impact and fulfillment. [35:58 – 43:18] Quick Questions·      Brag one about a charity you like: The Movember Foundation·      What would get you more excited? Donating a $1 million check or spending a week physically helping others: Both donating a $1 million check and spending a week physically helping others excite him. He would choose to do both - donate a million dollars while volunteering and helping someone out for a week.·      Do you think entrepreneurs should include a giving component to their business from day one or wait until they've seen a little success? Derek believes profits and shareholder value are important, but giving should be introduced from day one. Though he didn't do so initially, he thinks a philanthropic mindset is crucial for a business.·      Who inspires you with their giving? Dave Mathas·      What is the first thing you think of when you hear Go Big to Give Big: Derek believes Go Big to Give Big is about doing something bigger than oneself by stepping outside of one's personal circle to help and support others·      In one word, describe the feeling you get when you give: Euphoria.·      Do you believe that money can buy you happiness: Derek believes that money cannot buy happiness. He thinks that true happiness comes from fulfilling basic needs and achieving self-acceptance, and that money alone cannot provide that level of contentment.  [43:18 – 46:17] Closing Segment·      Reach out to Dereko  See the links below ·      Final words Tweetable Quotes “Why do we wait for the catalyst moment? Why do we have to have that breaking point in our lives before we make a significant shift to make an improvement?” – Derek Strokon _____________________________________________________________________ Connect with Derek by following him on Instagram and LinkedIn or by his consulting company https://www.sacredline.ca/ CONNECT WITH US! Join our Facebook Group LIKE, SHARE, AND SUBSCRIBE! Most people are afraid of what others might think or say if they showed up as their true authentic selves. Especially in a business context. That's why so many of us are terrified of sharing our story authentically in public and struggle to make a lasting impact when introducing ourselves. Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating brands of the past year is Just Eat Takeaway, a British-Dutch dot-com company; in this episode, we enjoyed speaking to Canadian subsidiary company SkipTheDishes CEO Kevin Edwards. Kevin talks about the lessons learned throughout the pandemic; the effect on their business and independent restaurants. ---------------------------------------------- HISTORY OF JUST EAT TAKEAWAY Canadian online food delivery company SkipTheDishes was acquired by Just Eat in 2016 for $200M. The following years saw several mergers and acquisitions across many international markets of scale-up delivery services. By 2020 UK's Just Eat (which had already acquired SkipTheDishes, Menulog, hungryhouse) merged with takeway.com to become Just Eat Takeaway. In March 2021, Just Eat Takeaway said it expected further growth in orders in 2021 after the pandemic helped drive a sharp rise in revenue for the year. The food delivery group hailed an "exceptional" 2020 after posting revenue of €2.4bn (£2bn), up 54 per cent from €1.6bn in the previous 12 months. The company reported three consecutive quarters of growth over the year, with overall orders rising 42% to 588m. --------------------------------------------- ABOUT KEVIN EDWARDS Kevin was appointed Chief Executive Officer, SkipTheDishes in November 2018 after joining the business in April as Chief Marketing Officer. Proving to be a transformational leader, he was appointed to lead Just Eat's North American portfolio as Skip entered their next stage of global business growth. With over 30 years of consumer strategy experience, global logistics expertise, and organizational change leadership, Kevin brings a depth of experience to the rapidly-growing business and industry.   Prior to joining Skip, Kevin was the Chief Marketing Officer for the global Movember Foundation, and held the position of Vice President of Marketing for Office Depot in both North America and Europe where he led teams through organisational change, international integration and brand evolvement.  --------------------------------------- FOLLOW US INSTAGRAM - www.instagram.com/activeintworld TWITTER - twitter.com/ActiveIntlUK KARIM - twitter.com/karimkanji PODCAST WEBSITE - www.thewhatsnextpodcast.com

WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week, John and Gregg talk about 3 classic games on the SNES. Pilotwings, F-Zero, and the infamous Shaq-Fu. All three games meant a lot to different people. Where as F-Zero is considered a stone cold classic, Shaq Fu is not as well regarded. We go over all the points, gameplay, and notes of interest. We discuss the uncessesary plot added to an overall good game in Pilotwings. We explain how it was “Template” game, and how it used the SNES' platform to full effect. We switch gears to talk about one of the most vilified games in history, and go over the plot, characters, and influence that dragged Shaq Fu into the ground. We then finish up with an explanation on what F-Zero was a wonderful game, a true SNES classic, and one of the best racing games of all time! Also John give more information on the Because Maybe 2020 charity event, an update on our Oddworld series, some notes about our current recording setup and the usual bits and nonsense. WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week the dynamic Duo of John and Sarah get together and talk about a movie that almost killed not only a franchise, but a Genre. Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever. They look at the decisions that lead to Tim Burton leaving the project, and how the original cast changed. We look at EVERYONE who could have played the key roles, and how on paper, the Cast and Crew was perfect for a movie at the time. We go over the “plot” and see how things could have gotten so bad, so quick. We discuss behind the scenes, and how the main cast could not get along, and how nobody came out of this looking good. We also explain why (ironically) the soundtrack is one of the greatest in movies, but why this may be one to avoid. **DISCLAIMER** - John and Gregg are not role models. While they are human, they are about to delve into the world of the most uncouth of cartoons. Some of the things they will talk about and language they use to describe things would cause pearls to be clutched, blood pressure to rise, and hopefully not get John deported. To put it another way, don't listen at work or around kids at home. Listener discretion is advised... Buttmunch! WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about the 2nd best cartoon of the 90's. MTV's Beavis and Butthead. We look at the characters and how Butthead was supposed to be the star, with Beavis as his sidekick. We discuss how rights issues scrapped one of the planned spin offs, but how the replacement was well worthy of it being a standalone. We look at the top episodes, the controversies that almost cancelled the show before it could get up and running, Mike Judge the creator, everything you could think of!
