He is 55 now, and very muscular. He's been lifting weights since he was 15 years old, and hasn't quit. Around 40 years old, he gained about five pounds every years, and got up to 265 at 6'5". At the time, he thought he was eating right, but eventually realized he was just lied to. He wasn't trying to lose weight, and figured he was healthy. By accident, Carlos found Vinnie's podcast. In just over a week, he lost 10 lbs. After around 3 or 4 months, he got to 225 or 230. When he started losing this weight, he also cut down on the exercise a bit, and is still in better shape and health. BEATING DAILY PAIN He ended up starting this way of eating to fight the cramping he felt when he played beach volleyball. Nothing worked for him. But, when he started NSNG®, the cramping largely stopped. And then, he figured out how insulin worked at the like. In a tournament, he used to drink 15 bottles of Gatorade and would still cramp. In two days, when he cut out sugar, he got out of bed, and wasn't in pain. For Carlos (and everyone else!), the sugar caused inflammation, and when he stopped eating it, he felt like a new person. On Tuesdays, we eat TACOS. On October 4th, it's National Taco Day. And it's Hispanic Heritage Month. But do you really need an excuse to munch on a taco? For Carlos & Kristen Corral, being a tacotarian is a way of life. And they hope to make us all tacotarians. The Las Vegas couple started their plant-based Mexican eatery Tacotarian with their partners Dan & Regina Simmons after a delicious trip to Mexico City. They realized that it wasn't the meat that made the food so "MexiSexy" (yeah, we made up that word). It was the bold Latin flavors that came across just as well, and in some cases, even better with vegetables. Chefs Lorraine Moss and Louiie Victa learn about how the small business is trying to save the world one taco at a time, why the whole team has decided to go meatless, and how two married couples work so well together. For "Show & Tell" - Kristen & Carlos stay on brand with their delightful choice. In the 6th episode of our “Bitesize Insights for Data Driven Leaders” Series, we have Carlos Rivero, Chief Data Officer at Commonwealth of Virginia. Carlos started college wanting to become a civil engineer to help with his father’s business, but later on gravitated towards environmental engineering and ecology given that he lived in Miami and was a witness to the environmental impact on their local marine ecology. Thanks to the advice of one of his professors and mentor, he chose science over engineering. For Carlos, it’s very important to bring people together and have them understand the value of the work they are doing, why they’re doing it and the impact it can have on real world issues. Quotes: "Take money out of the equation and simply focus on what brings you fulfillment and happiness." "It became clear to me that I loved working with data and being able to tell stories from those data assets that I was working with." "One of the basic things that I really enjoyed about those projects was being of service, because it was not just geographic information science that I was working on, it was really at the service of something larger than that, of something that had potential impact in our social sphere and that to me was extraordinarily appealing and that was a big driver for the impact these projects had on my career." See that shiny new smart phone of yours? It's the product of many powerful inventions created by engineers and protected by patents. The patent system seeks to protect these inventions in exchange for detailed public disclosure about how they work. In this episode, we hear from patent attorney Carlos Rosario, a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law. Though he graduated 3.5 years ago, he has twice switched law firms in Silicon Valley to strike his ideal balance between patent prosecution and patent litigation. Today, Carlos works for one of the largest intellectual property firms in the world. It turns out that if you want to concentrate on patent litigation, you all-but need to work for a large firm. Like many students, Carlos was attracted to intellectual property prior to law school because he found technology exciting. This interview illustrates the IP world to listeners generally—including whether certain IP lawyers need special credentials—before diving into the particulars of day-to-day practice. Ultimately, you'll get a feel for patent practice and can unpack whether it’s as glamorous as it seems. For Carlos, he is right at home in the combative yet collaborative litigation process.  This episode is hosted by Mike Spivey, a consultant for prospective and current law students. Hey, Do You Remember...?
What About Bob?

Hey, Do You Remember...?

Donna and Carlos were both too stressed out by Bob's behavior to enjoy this 1991 comedy when they were children. They were on Dr. Marvin's side 100% and couldn't understand what was so hard about just following simple rules and respecting people's boundaries. We'll call this "The Problem Child Phenomenon". Chris was already a teenager by the time he saw the movie so he didn't have that problem (and suspects he wouldn't have as a kid either). Donna and Carlos eventually grew to love it as well, but the one thing we were most surprised by as adults was just how unabashedly awful the character of Dr. Marvin is. Chris remembered it as more of an Odd Couple situation where you sympathize with both of them at different points in the story. Nope. Not even a little. Leo's the worst. For Carlos this raises an important question - who are we really rooting for here? And why? Chris thinks that the screenwriter believed Leo was the protagonist, the director believed it was Bob, and that both of them were wrong. The movie is still hilarious and we all laughed out loud A LOT, but the bungled relationship between the two leads drastically changed our feelings on the actual story - especially once it reached its bizarre and totally unearned conclusion.  iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show

After a run of some less than stellar films, the HDYR gang decided to try and lift their spirits by revisiting A League of Their Own - a movie they all loved as kids and have continued to adore as adults. For Donna, it was the spark that ignited a feminist flame. For Carlos, it was a sports movie with the perfect blend of heart and laughs. And for Chris, it was the inspiration to try and start his own baseball league (with predictably disastrous results). Topics include: Madonna's tie-in song that took over the world, the disappointing A League of Their Own TV show, some disagreements about the effectiveness of the film's final moments, Chris' problem with the fact that the focus is on Dottie when Kitt really should be the protagonist, deleted scenes that change some of the core character dynamics, and much much more! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
