Tom Crawford-Clarke, a London-based dentist, reflects on his journey with fake meat products, expressing his evolving relationship with them. In the past, he savored various options like Quorn, Linda McCartney, Beyond Burgers, and Moving Mountains, praising their relative tastiness. Yet, he's grown skeptical due to uncertainties about their composition. While these meat substitutes aim to emulate the texture and flavor of traditional meat, doubts about their ingredients linger. Fake meat has long been presented as a healthier choice, with offerings like plant-based burgers and sausages promising to satisfy both our taste buds and our desire for more ethical eating. Tom's concerns about the authenticity of these products are shared by others. The red liquid that oozes from Beyond Burgers, meant to mimic blood, is in fact beetroot juice. However, despite endorsements from figures like Leonardo DiCaprio and partnerships with fast-food giants like McDonald's and KFC, Beyond Meat has faced a 30% decline in sales. 30%。 Recent survey results from Strong Roots, a vegan company, reveal an intriguing shift in consumer behavior. While 61% of participants reported increasing their plant-based consumption, 40% have started to cut down on fake meat. Taste emerged as the primary factor driving this shift, followed closely by concerns about artificial additives and the highly processed nature of these products. Economic pressures on households have also contributed to the decreased demand for meat alternatives. This decline arrives at a challenging juncture for the meat substitute industry, following the closure of companies like Meatless Farm and the shelving of vegan ranges by Heck. The trajectory of the fake meat market showcases both its rise and some growing pains. With the term "plant-based" gaining prominence in the 2010s, supermarket shelves began featuring an array of meat substitutes alongside established brands like Linda McCartney. The market boomed, and in 2019, a significant portion of new UK food products were labeled vegan. However, setbacks like Beyond Meat's sales slump have exposed challenges around taste, health perceptions, and pricing. This cooling trend is apparent in supermarket adjustments to meat-free selections and a 7% volume sales decrease over a year, as reported by research company Kantar. In conclusion, the journey of fake meat in the market exemplifies its evolution from hype to a more nuanced reality. While Beyond Meat and similar brands face sales declines, others like THIS continue to flourish due to affordability and the prevailing concern for environmental and ethical impacts. Consumers are reevaluating their preferences, seeking healthier and cleaner options while considering nutritional content. The shift represents a kink in the graph rather than a market failure, paralleling the evolution seen in other industries. As individuals like Tom Crawford-Clarke emphasize, the motivation for adopting plant-based diets extends beyond mere imitation, reflecting a broader lifestyle shift toward sustainability and ethical considerations. Reference article: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-66438807
NoBull Burger originated many years ago, when mom and chef Crissanne Raymond, created what is now the Original NoBull Burger recipe. As a young mother, Crissanne created the recipe, seeking to feed her family something she could feel good about. The recipe became a big hit among family and friends over the years. Throughout the years more and more veggieburgers started hitting the market, but they just didn't compare to Crissanne's in ingredients nor flavor. After some convincing from her family and realizing that there's nothing else like it out there, Crissanne set up shop in Charlottesville, VA in 2011 with the help of her daughters, Heather & Elizabeth. More on this brand: https://nobullburger.com Follow: @Nobullburger About Crissanne Raymond NoBull Veggie Burger, founded by chef and mother Crissanne Raymond, is a testament to a culinary journey that began with the creation of the Original NoBull Veggie Burger recipe. As a devoted mother, Crissanne's passion led her to craft a wholesome burger that not only delighted her family but also garnered a loyal following. Her commitment to genuine, quality ingredients established her as the "veggieburger lady," setting her creation apart from the market's offerings. In 2011, with the support of her daughters Heather and Elizabeth, Crissanne established her venture in Charlottesville, VA. The journey evolved, leading to national recognition, including Whole Foods Market's embrace, and a recent brand redesign that emphasizes their commitment to real-food, plant-based excellence. NoBull Veggie Burger stands as a beacon of authenticity, offering a delicious bridge between mindful eating, great flavor, and a happier, healthier world. ► Luxury Women Handbag Discounts: https://www.theofficialathena.... ► Become an Equus Coach®: https://equuscoach.com/?rfsn=7... ► For $5 in ride credit, download the Lyft app using my referral link: https://www.lyft.com/ici/ASH58... ► Review Us: https://itunes.apple.com/us/po... ► Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/c/AshSa... ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/1lov... ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ashsa... ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/1loveAsh ► Blog: http://www.ashsaidit.com/blog #atlanta #ashsaidit #theashsaiditshow #ashblogsit #ashsaidit®

Live from the Heart of America—I'm Steve Gruber— Your Soldier of Truth—the Tip of the Spear against socialists—here ready to fight for you from the Foxhole of Freedom—AND—REMEMBER TO THINK while its still legal—this is the Steve Gruber Show— Here are 3 big things you need to know right now— Number One— The Vegan craze is dying on the vine it appears—as Beyond Meat the fake meat product that was all the rage—is plummeting in sales—down 31%-- Number Two— How about your Bidenomics update for today—here is a shocking number—Credit Card Debt in America has soared over $1 Trillion dollars for the first time ever—and that is not a good sign for the economy— Number Three— Is there actual proof of large scale voter fraud in Michigan just before the 2020 Presidential Election—well according to one controversial on-line publication The Gateway Pundit in a HUGE EXCLUSIVE headline—claims they have got the smoking gun—BUT is that true? In the article that dropped yesterday the Headline declared: NOW WE HAVE THE PROOF! TGP EXCLUSIVE: Massive 2020 Voter Fraud Uncovered in Michigan- Police Find: TENS OF THOUSANDS of Fake Registrations, Bags of Pre-Paid Gift Cards, Guns with Silencers, Burner Phones, and a Democrat-Funded Organization with Multiple Temporary Facilities in several states— According the article it all begins on October 8, 2020—a month before the election when it claims Muskegon City Clerk Ann Meisch noticed a black female dropping off around 8,000 to 10,000 completed voter registration forms at the same time—and that for the most part they looked the same—similar signatures and bogus addresses stuck out to her according to the report—prompting her to call the police a few days later to launch an investigation— In the report—it states that later—on October 21st—First Lt. Mike Anderson of the Muskegon PD was contacted by Tom Fabus in Attorney General Dana Nessels office—that according to a Michigan State Police report—and according to that same report Fabus asked for the Michigan State Police and Muskegon Police to conduct a joint investigation— Meisch told investigators that the quantity of voter registration forms were highly suspicious and possibly fraudulent— She further stated that phone numbers, addresses and signatures all looked to be wrong—and nothing appeared to match— According to the Gateway Pundit report—the company behind the push to deliver the voter registration forms was a company called GBI strategies that operates in several states and here is where it gets really shocking— Police conducted a raid on GBI offices in Southfield and Auburn Hills and what they found was shocking— police apparently found Dozens of new phones, Hundreds of pre-payment cards—plus numerous semi-automatic rifles with suppressors and optics plus handguns too—One Pelican case had 4 rifles and 4 pistols according to what was published— The woman who dropped off the applications—was found and told police she was paid $1150 a week to collect voter registration forms in the Muskegon area— However before the investigation was completed it was turned over to the FBI—and so far we have not heard anything about this— So what do these police reports mean—will it mean that when Donald Trump is on trial for alleging voter fraud in Michigan and around the nation—that some of this material could be put forth as evidence—Maybe— Could it lead to FOIA requests for other news outlets to begin the job of digging deeper—again—maybe but that is more likely of course—and does it indicate a wider pattern of abuse and fraud—well you certainly have to wonder— Of course I can not vouch for the veracity of the published report—not yet—BUT it appears that all of the information collected and released so far is on the money— One person that seems to have a clear idea of what happened won't surprise you at all— No surprise there, I will of course stay on top of it— In another series of videos on the internet calling into question what we have all been told about a major series of events—it appears there are clips of police officers preparing for and then going undercover on January 6th 2021—to appear as members of Antifa among other things—so lets dig into that for a moment— And one more thing—if Donald Trump is being charged for political speech—don't you think maybe he is being singled out unfairly?
Trump, DeSantis, and other 2024 GOP hopefuls' stance on the impeachment of Joe Biden. Vegan food maker Beyond Meat has seen its sales crash by almost a third as consumers reject its hyper-processed, plant-based products despite substantial price cuts and claims its customers can “positively affect the planet.” The Walt Disney Co. has teamed up with a transgender TikTok influencer to promote apparel for girls — specifically, Minnie Mouse-themed clothes that include a red dress, yellow pumps, and a red hair bow. Plus more on today's episode.

Most of us are familiar with the ethical quandaries of eating meat, and in particular the large-scale abuse of animals in modern-day farming and mass meat production. And in many ways, the question of whether it is ‘okay' to eat other animals is a philosophical and personal one. But what does the research show about more objective measures of eating meat, like how it affects the environment and the impact it has on our health? Plant-based food diets are becoming increasingly popular – especially with the more recent advent of ‘beyond-meat' food, food that is vegetarian but designed to taste like real meat. Is this actually a good alternative? Stuart Waldner, author of 'Escape the Meatrix', joins the podcast. https://www.amazon.ca/Escape-Meatrix-Plants-Great-Planet/dp/1544528752This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5432816/advertisement
Chicken grown from animal cells, not from slaughtered birds, can now be sold in the U.S., after the Agriculture Department issued approvals to California firms Upside Foods and Good Meat to sell the products, known as “lab-grown” or “cultivated” meat. The goal is to eliminate harm to animals and drastically reduce the environmental impacts of raising them. The meat will initially be sold only at upscale restaurants. Companies around the world are developing lab-grown chicken nuggets that do not involve slaughtering chickens. U.S. regulators for the first time approved the sale of chicken made from animal cells, allowing two California companies to offer “lab-grown” meat to the nation's restaurant tables and eventually, supermarket shelves. The Agriculture Department gave the green light to Upside Foods and Good Meat, firms that had been racing to be the first in the U.S. to sell meat that doesn't come from slaughtered animals — what's now being referred to as “cell-cultivated" or “cultured” meat as it emerges from the laboratory and arrives on dinner plates. The move launches a new era of meat production aimed at eliminating harm to animals and drastically reducing the environmental impacts of grazing, growing feed for animals and animal waste. A manufacturing company called JOINN Biologics, which works with Good Meat, was also cleared to make the products. Cultivated meat is grown in steel tanks, using cells that come from a living animal, a fertilized egg or a special bank of stored cells. Good Meat, which already sells cultivated meat in Singapore, the first country to allow it, turns masses of chicken cells into cutlets, nuggets, shredded meat and satays. The companies plan to serve the new food first in exclusive restaurants. Company officials are quick to note the products are meat, not substitutes like the Impossible Burger or offerings from Beyond Meat, which are made from plant proteins and other ingredients. Globally, more than 150 companies are focusing on meat from cells, not only chicken but pork, lamb, fish and beef, which scientists say has the biggest impact on the environment. There is an upcoming disruption of the food systems industry, and investors today can get in ahead of an exciting new S-Curve that's developing. Elysabeth Alfano is the CEO of VegTech Invest, and also advisor to the EATV ETF. EATV is the world's only Plant-based Innovation & Climate ETF. 7investing CEO Simon Erickson recently interviewed Elysabeth for our 7investing podcast. In the first part of the conversation, Elysabeth describes how she got interest in food systems transformation and why it is important to solving issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, food insecurity, and human health care. The global food supply system hasn't changed much in the past 1,000 years and it could be ripe for disruption. Elysabeth goes on to describe the limitations of our traditional supply chain. Animal husbandry isn't really innovating any more, whereas the plant-based innovation curve is just getting started. She explains that our current system isn't economical and is often bad for the environment. Beyond Meat has published research that says animal agriculture accounts for about 15% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions; with two thirds of those coming directly from cows. Consumers, governments, and businesses are all stakeholders who are interested in making food systems more efficient. Simon then asks what parts of the supply chain will require the most investment, in order to create a $290 billion new industry by 2035. Elysabeth says it will be investment from businesses into their processes and supply chains. Perhaps with support from their governments. In the final segment, Simon asks what the most common criticisms have been from people who are opposed to change in food products. Elysabeth also describes the investing methodology that she uses for her index. Publicly-traded companies mentioned in this podcast include Beyond Meat, Cargill, ConAgra, Costco, Dannon, Nestle, and YUM Brands. 7investing's advisors and/or its guests may have positions in the companies that are mentioned. Don't miss out on future conversations like this! 7investing will be publishing upcoming interviews with the CEOs of PubMatic, Rocket Lab, and more. How can a word like “occasionally” be so detrimental to the plant-based meat industry? Scaling too fast and not fully understanding the underlying behavior driving its business resulted in Beyond Meat's premature decline. Haste followed by a series of growth Hail Mary's won't keep your brand growing once it reaches scale. Tune in to see why not.Your Host: Dr. James F. He is a trained scientist and engineer. He finished his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Carolina, his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a postdoctoral position in Systems Biology at ETH Zurich. He currently works on the front lines of the alternative food industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please visit www.aftermeatbook.com to learn more. “The movement away from animal-based foods is already proceeding with tremendous momentum,” says Karthik Sekar, Ph.D. and author of AFTER MEAT (November 16, 2021). According to Dr. Sekar, Burger King and McDonalds have both introduced veggie burgers sourced from well-known, next-generation vegan food companies, Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, and the publication, The Economist, declared 2019 to be the “Year of the Vegan”. AFTER MEAT explores the technological reasons for moving away from animal products. “Animals are awful technology,” says Dr. Sekar, who supports his opinion by examining how inefficient it is to use cows, for example, to produce steaks, leather, and milk. According to Dr. Sekar, it takes more than a year to grow food to feed animals, and we “waste” more than ninety percent of what we feed the animal to reach the desired result, due to the fundamental physics of cow biology. These are irretrievably terrible metrics. We can do much better with alternative technology such as microbial fermentation, which will also be easier to innovate for taste, nutrition, and other qualities we care about. And all indications are that the future of food will ultimately be tastier, healthier, cheaper, kinder, and better for the environment. This will happen because we won't use animal products. 100% of the proceeds of AFTER MEAT will be donated to the following charities: The Good Food Institute; Animal Charity Evaluator's Recommended Charity Fund; Effective Altruism's Animal Welfare Fund; and Faunalytics. More money will be invested this year in the solar industry than in oil production. So said Faith Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency, last week. Amy Harder, executive editor of Cipher, attended the Cleanpower 2023 event in New Orleans and experienced at first-hand what it means for the Big Green energy industry to be rivalling the scale of Big Oil. The event has been dubbed the ‘Coachella of clean energy' and as Amy recounts walking the half-mile long hall, full of clean energy businesses looking to capitalise on the booming industry, that comparison certainly seems appropriate. Amy Myers Jaffe, director of NYU's Center for Global Affairs, is also on the show this week. She says that what was once seen as a huge divide between the high-carbon and low-carbon energy industries is now being bridged. But she argues there is still an important role for governments in supporting the growth of newer energy technologies that would otherwise find it too difficult to break into markets dominated by old energy incumbents. After discussing how the emergence of the Big Green industry relates to US permitting reforms that could affect all energy infrastructure projects, the gang turn their attention to the G7. The recent summit in Hiroshima included some important discussions of the climate and energy, with world leaders repeating their commitments to accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels, but also acknowledging the case for increased gas production to replace Russian supplies. Finally, whatever happened to alternative protein? Impossible Foods, Beyond Meat and some of the other companies in the sector have been cutting jobs. Beyond Meat's share price, which peaked at about $235 in the summer of 2019, is about $10 this week. Impossible Foods has been talking about an IPO, but now says it is not going to happen this year. It's clear that if you can cut the emissions from food production, and from beef in particular, the climate benefits could be huge. Should changing diets play a bigger role in climate strategy?Subscribe to the show so you don't miss an episode and follow us on Twitter, we're @theenergygang Wood Mackenzie's Solar & Energy Storage Summit is back, taking place at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco on June 21 and 22. In this episode, we're talking about fake meat, an industry that has absolutely exploded, especially in the past decade, though recent inflation has had a significant impact on American consumption of it. We'll talk about the history of fake meat, scientific breakthroughs that helped companies like Impossible and Beyond Meat make meat substitutes that taste pretty darn close to the real thing, and what experts predict will happen to the industry as a whole as food costs continue to rise. This week's episode is our second installment of our Money Talks series. In this episode, we explore how the large functions of the global economy intersect with the changing food industry. First, we look at the legacy of Pilotworks, a culinary co-working space showing the possibilities and limitations of a silicon-valley like approach to the food space. Next, we learn about the link between banking and climate change and how a bank account can support sustainable agriculture. For our last two stories, we hear two different perspectives on venture capital funding in food. The awareness of the harmful consequences of meat consumption on human health especially processed meats and conventionally grown meats as well as the toll on the environment grows every day, and so, the need for plant-based protein alternatives increases as well. In recent years, we have seen a surge of various plant-based “meat” brands that sell the idea of replacing regular protein sources with vegan patties and tenders that are almost identical in looks and flavor to the animal version. Brands like Beyond Meat and Morningstar have increased popularity for proposing a way to enjoy old-fashioned animal flavors without actually harming any animal. However, these kinds of foods remain with the harmful effects of highly processed products and are filled with harmful chemicals and dyes. That begs the question: Are fake meat alternatives healthier? Are we making a healthier choice when we opt for plant-based meat alternatives over the real deal? This is what we explore today in this episode of Fatal Conveniences. Get ready to dive into the world of Fake Meats. What we discuss: 05:04: What is the history of fake meats? 09:56: Is Beyond Meat healthier than real meat? 12:35: What role does Fake Meat play in obesity? 15:24: What are the ingredients of Fake Meat?
