To many of us, accounting is all about numbers and analyzing reports. But what if we looked at it as a way to reach our business goals? Many of us just think about accounting as a tool, but we need to understand the purpose behind it. Frank Lunn, president of Kahuna Accounting, said, “Our mission is to really help entrepreneurs utilize accounting as a system.” Frank and Tom talked about how his company helps business owners understand, align, and coordinate what’s important to them, their missions, and their visions. Frank believes this is a more strategic way to use accounting to plan for the future. Are you using your financial reports to their full potential? Find out how Frank’s lack of interest in accounting led him to take a different approach in the field.
With the coronavirus pandemic forcing non-essential businesses to work virtually, the needs of those businesses have changed. Many may even discover that a virtual business model is better and change forever how they operate. This is made possible by a growing number of cloud services that can allow companies to run smoothly with a distributed workforce. Some may realize that they can run with a reduced workforce and outsource some tasks to outside vendors. But can that be done with things like your accounting department? To answer that question, I invited Frank Lunn of Kahuna Accounting, a virtual firm with clients all over the country, to talk to us on how it can be done! In this episode you will learn: How cloud accounting services can integrate with your other cloud platforms How accounting services can be molded to your strategic financial goals How accounting services can help you grow your business and reduce overhead

This month, Frank Lunn celebrated his 20th year in business. His long journey has taken him through almost everything, which includes founding Kahuna Accounting in 2012. But Frank is not an accountant. He’s not even what you’d call a “numbers person.” He is an entrepreneur, and in his entrepreneurial journey he realized how incredibly important it is to have an understanding of your finances. In this interview Frank talks about what he learned along the way and how a business can scale when they know how to keep score. We also talk about leadership and the power in embracing ignorance. If you are not a numbers person yourself, and feel weak in the area of accounting and finance, you’ll find a lot of value in this interview.
