Host Taylor Inman breaks down the biggest stories impacting communities across the Flathead Valley and Northwest Montana. Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze at the Courtyard Apartments near Kalispell's Airport Road, preventing serious injuries while several residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation.Meanwhile, thousands of residents across Lincoln and Flathead counties were left without power after a severe windstorm swept through the region, knocking down trees, closing schools and forcing travel restrictions as crews worked to restore electricity. The episode also examines a court development in Lake County, where a Ronan man entered an Alford plea in a case involving allegations of abuse of a vulnerable person.Additional stories include coverage of a Democratic congressional forum held in Whitefish as candidates compete to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke, a proposed Kalispell policy change that could eliminate public hearings for subdivision proposals, and new logging activity tied to the Frozen Moose Project in the North Fork area of the Flathead National Forest.A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair! This week on News Now, reporter Taylor Inman breaks down six of the Flathead Valley's biggest and most talked-about stories — from federal policy changes at Glacier National Park to heated local land-use decisions and community highlights. We begin with Glacier National Park removing interpretive displays following a federal directive, raising questions about how public lands tell history and whose voices are represented. From there, we dive into a controversial decision approving a Lakeside marina dock extension, despite widespread public opposition, and examine why county officials moved forward anyway. The episode also covers a Montana Supreme Court ruling that clears the way for the Happy's Inn RV park, along with a proposed lease at Polson Bay Golf Course that could reshape public access and future development. We then shift gears to community news, including the Whitefish Winter Carnival parade, featuring a surprise appearance by a NASA astronaut, before closing with standout performances at the Class AA State Speech and Debate Tournament.Read these full stories on dailyinterlake.com:Glacier National Park podcast, displays axed under Trump directive | Hungry Horse News Word for word: Flathead wins second, Glacier third at state speech championship | Daily Inter Lake Flathead County OKs resort's 159-foot marina dock in Lakeside | Daily Inter Lake State Supreme Court rules in favor of county, developer | Western News A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair! Almost every aspect of our life from the likes we get on social media to the professional metrics we receive have been in some ways gamified. Games are basically everywhere. Thi Nguyen is a philosophy professor at the University of Utah and the author of “The Score: How to Stop Playing Somebody Else's Game.” He joins WITHpod to discuss why we've gamified so many things, why we are so drawn to keeping score, recapturing value that can't be obtained from data and more. What if the real reason your marriage feels heavy is the scoreboard you never meant to build? We dive into the hidden “points system” that turns chores, tone, spending, and even small mistakes into a running tally of who's up and who's down—and why it's quietly starving intimacy. Through a memorable 2–0 basketball story and our own Firebird fiasco, we show how performance thinking sneaks into everyday life, promising fairness and delivering distance.Together we unpack the doghouse mentality—using guilt, cold silence, or withheld affection to force change—and contrast it with the way of Jesus. Drawing from John 1, John 15, and Matthew 11, we explore how the gospel frees us from living as judges in our own homes. Then we step into Matthew 20's parable of the vineyard workers to reframe “fairness” through the lens of a generous Master. When we receive unearned grace, we can extend it, replacing punishment with partnership and debt language with family language.A listener's candid question on hiding from a judgmental spouse opens a practical path forward: authenticity before God first, then consistent honesty at home. We share concrete steps to tear down the scoreboard—naming where we've added burdens, asking forgiveness without excuses, and choosing service over surveillance. You'll leave with tools to move beyond the brittle 50–50 contract into a 100% grace commitment, where the yoke is easy, the burden is light, and love stops feeling like a wage and starts feeling like a gift.If this conversation helps, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help others find these Christ-centered marriage tools. Court documents detail the arrest, the unusual weapons investigators say were found, and what comes next as the case heads to arraignment.Next, we look at the devastating fire that destroyed the Cattle Baron Supper Club in Babb — a family-run landmark with more than a century of history just outside Glacier National Park. Owners Bob and Charlene Burns recount how the blaze spread during extreme winds, the massive regional firefighting response, and their hopes to rebuild after losing a piece of Blackfeet and community history. We also examine the illegal killing of a federally protected grizzly bear in northern Idaho near the Montana border. With the Cabinet-Yaak grizzly population already among the most imperiled in the Lower 48, wildlife officials explain why the death of a single female could set recovery efforts back years — and why the reward for information now stands at $15,000.Finally, state lawmakers grapple with how to regulate kratom in Montana. High winds slammed Northwest Montana this week, knocking out power to tens of thousands of residents from Libby to the Flathead Valley and forcing emergency responses across the region. On this episode of News Now, we break down how damaging wind gusts — topping 67 mph in Kalispell and nearly 100 mph in the Swan Range — led to widespread outages, downed trees, road closures, and emergency shelter operations as utility crews worked through the night to restore service. The episode also takes a closer look at the ongoing boil advisory in Libby, now entering its second week after catastrophic flooding compromised the city's drinking water system. We explain what caused the advisory, why state officials are testing for heavy metals, what residents should know about water safety, and how emergency crews are prioritizing both infrastructure repairs and public health. This episode provides essential context for residents navigating storm impacts, infrastructure concerns, and recovery efforts across Northwest Montana.A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair! I had so much money I never balanced my checkbook. And while I'm no Elon Musk, I didn't worry much about what I spent, because I knew what I could afford. How do you keep score? Maybe a better question is what is a win for you?Certainly we can all agree that Trump's second term is a win. It's actually his 3rd term.
