In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston talks about the importance of upgrading our "filters" as artists. In order to function as our best selves, artistic and otherwise, we need to learn what elements and information are not serving us well and then eradicate them from our lives. Preston uses the analogy of a bucket filling up, similar to the one used to describe chronic illness. We need to constantly be emptying our bucket, so we can function at our absolute best. Otherwise, toxicity of all sorts can take control of the wheel, leading us down a path that could be detrimental to our health and artistic careers. Listen in and learn how to empty your bucket, as well as upgrade your filter. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston discusses how great artist "observe" their culture and times very astutely, and then "report" back to society what they see, through their own unique artistic lens. Through this observation process, we as artists, can discover what our function might be in our creative endeavors. What is in need? Is there some void that we can fill with our art? What must be uncovered and commented on? These are just some questions we might ask ourselves when observing culture through our artistic perspectives. We can then set about creating from an authentic place. Enjoy the episode! For more information on Preston M. We know her, we love her, and we are THRILLED to have her back…everyone please welcome Abigail Elizabeth, business owner, badass mother of two, and an overall gem of a human being. Abigail was on just a few months ago to chat about her experience doing the work and attending my retreats, and now she's back to tell us how her life has continued to shift and change since. It can be easy to start out strong when you're doing the work…then start to fall off the wagon after some time has gone by. But Abigail is an amazing example of what doing the work long-term looks like: the ups and downs, the payoff, and the incredible ripple effects that can transform the lives of your entire family. You're not JUST doing the work for you, babe. This can stop the generational trauma train, last stop YOU—and Abigail's going to tell us how. WORK WITH MICHELLE: These aren't just retreats. These are where we turn your inner chaos into GOLD. Please enjoy the re-airing of this episode which was originally released July 9, 2024.There is no getting around this: I was THRILLED when Lisa agreed to come on the podcast. Lisa is the Executive Director of the Virginia Library Association, immediate past chair of the Virginia Beach Public Library Board, and a member of the ALA Policy Corps focusing on Unite Against Book Bans. She also was named the LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR 2024 by Library Journal, an award she won because of her advocacy in the fight against book bans. Lisa is a hero of mine, and I am also very grateful to call her my friend. Our book this week is Have a Beautiful, Terrible Day!: Daily Meditations for the Ups, Downs & In-Betweens by Kate Bowler. Lisa lives in Virginia Beach and we recorded at the beautiful OceanFront Marriott in Virginia Beach. I want to thank the staff of the Marriott for letting us record in their executive suite overlooking the ocean. Our drink this week is one Lisa recommends for a beach day, a Ruby Red Grapefruit Crush!Ruby Red Grapefruit Crush Ingredients4 oz (½ cup) grapefruit juice1 oz (2 tablespoons) vodka½ oz (1 tablespoon) triple sec (orange liqueur)2 oz (¼ cup) lemon-lime soda or club sodaIn This EpisodeUnite Against Book Bans - https://uniteagainstbookbans.org/Virginia Library Association - https://www.vla.org/Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle ZevinVirginia Society of Association ExecutivesEverything Happens - Kate Bowler's podcastGigi's Episode on Anne Lamott's Bird by BirdRob Delaney's Episode of Everything HappensCatastrophe TV ShowTerrible, Thanks for Asking PodcastThe Hot Young Widows Club by Nora McInerny
