Collectively, we can look back on the year 2020 and remember how tough it was for everyone! But one thing I look back on with joy is how Carlos Whittaker emerged as a hopeful and steady voice online, walking us through tough conversations and being a true leader for many in what felt like a dark time. I am THRILLED to have Carlos back on the show today as we reflect on his journey over the past few years. Plus, we talk all about his new book, How to Human: Three Ways to Share Life Beyond What Distracts, Divides, and Disconnects Us.If you aren't familiar with Carlos Whittaker, let me introduce you! Carlos is a podcaster, author, global speaker, and a follower of Jesus who desires to make people feel seen and cared for. His motto in life is, “Don't stand on issues. Walk with people.” He lives in Nashville, Tennessee where you can find his family farming and dancing to Beyonce (seriously, Google it!). In How to Human, Carlos takes us through a three-part journey: “Be, see, and free.” BE fully who God created you to be. SEE humans around you, particularly those who feel invisible. Lastly, FREE humans through service! Through looking at the example of Jesus' life, we can gain a fresh vision of exchanging a culture of division for real relationships. This book is for everyone and anyone who needs reminding that we can navigate hard times with grit, kindness, and a good joke or two!Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston encourages us to find simplicity in what we do. Especially when it comes to problems and over-efforting, can we find a solution that gets us to the same place in a more simplistic way? Many times, the correct path or solution is the one that is right under our nose the whole time. As Tim Ferriss would say, "what would this look like if it were simple?" First step is to establish a perspective of objectivity. Without this, we don't even know where are problem areas lie. Once this has been established, we can tackle our issues from a more simplistic state of mind. Listen to this episode and learn how. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. She is the author of multiple book chapters and scientific articles. At age 40, she was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer amid an existential crisis. A timely meeting with a non-traditionally trained practitioner taught her a different approach to disease. She experienced the power of meditation, visualization, energy healing, and love. In this episode: I am joined by Pink and Blue, Sam, Josey, and Dave Wick, from the Stereo app. Follow me on Stereo - www.stereo.com/andanotherthing We go deep down the rabbit hole of the corruption of 3 letter agencies and the potential for World War 3. It is funny/not funny how wherever the CIA is operating, there seems to be a problem with drug smuggling. The CIA learned under the Kennedy administration that if they want to carry out the black ops without interference from the government, they need to raise their own funds. The CIA is not happy with the ridiculous amount of money bestowed upon them by the taxpayers of the United States, so they engage in nefarious activities to raise money so they can fund operations with no governmental oversight. The Iran Contra scandal was a prime example of this. This was really 2 scandals in one and named to deceive the public. Congress refused to fund the CIA's covert operations, so the CIA engaged in cocaine smuggling to raise the funds needed for their operations. Directly opposing the wishes of congress, the CIA sent weapons to Iran in the hopes to delay the release of U.S. hostages taken following a CIA led coup to overthrow the democratically elected leader of Iran. The second part of the scandal involved the CIA funding a rebel group in Nicaragua called the Sandinistas which was fighting to overthrow the democratically elected socialist leaning government of Nicaragua. All of this was paid for by the CIA arranging for cocaine to be smuggled into the United States and sold to U.S. citizens. The program was overseen by ex-CIA and current vice president, George Bush Sr. The cocaine was flown into Mena Arkansas, where Bill Clinton was governor. The drugs were then distributed to 10 major U.S. cities where street gangs carried out the retail sales. The overabundance of cheap cocaine is what led to the crack epidemic. Gary Webb a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News broke the story. Link to his book below. We offer tips for supplements as well as ways to avoid toxins. A great resource is The Environmental Workers Group. On their web site below you can find tips on eating healthy as well as what products to avoid. They publish a number of shopping guides to help you reduce your pesticide and chemical intake. One of my favorites is called The Clean 15 and The Dirty Dozen. The average person in the U.S. has trace elements of a number of pesticides in their urine. The Clean 15/Dirty 12, is a list of 15 fruits and vegetable with a guide to levels of pesticide residue. It is a great shopping guide to bring with you to the store helping you decide when items to purchase organic, and when it is ok to eat conventionally grown produce. They also produce a list of which sunscreens are the worst for your health as well as many other guides. In this episode: I talk with @Aricka and @Hotmamaofstereo from the Stereo app. Hotmama..., got a phone call every parent of school aged children in the U.S. is hoping never to get. Her child called from school telling her they were on lockdown due to a live shooter at the school. It turned out to be a false alarm thank god. This is the type of phone call no parent wants to get, yet is becoming more and more frequent here in the U.S. While lax gun laws may be to blame in some states, the elephant in the room that nobody is talking about is mental health. The U.S. for some reason, seems to be creating more crazy mass shooters than any other country in the world. Shootings here have reached epidemic proportions, and everyone agrees something must be done. While advocates for stricter gun laws advocate for gun control legislation, there is hardly any talk of the mental health crisis we are facing. The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not have some form of Universal Healthcare in place for its citizens. Even South Africa offers its citizens healthcare. Free healthcare would mean free MENTAL healthcare. The lack of healthcare and the epidemic of shootings is a link that you will never hear the mainstream media make, but there seems to be an obvious connection. Not only do we lead the world in mass shootings, but the average lifespan in the U.S. is now declining. Deaths of despair are now the leading cause of death for middle aged men in the U.S., which are deaths resulting from drug/alcohol abuse, or suicide. Healthcare bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy here in the U.S. The average U.S. citizen cannot even afford a $400 emergency. Our government does nothing to help those being further squeezed by corporate price gouging disguised as inflation but instead offers political platitudes and ridiculous rhetoric. Pay to play, ties to sex trafficking, and investments in China and Russia. The Epstein case should have been the biggest most covered story in 100 years, but it was summarily swept under the rug. 2 weeks after Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew were named in the case, Epstein was found dead in his cell. His cellmate was replaced with a mob hitman serving life, the guards "fell asleep" and 2 video cameras stopped working ..... but there is nothing to see here folks. I was hoping Ghislane Maxwell, Epstein's accomplice would have pulled a move like Edward Snowden and gone to Russia where she could then release the names in Epstein's little black book with the KGB protecting her. No such luck. She went to trial and in a mind-blowing revelation, the FBI sealed the court records refusing to release the names of the people who were on Epstein's customer list as sex traffickers/pedophiles. The FBI said sealing the court records was a matter of national security. This can only mean one thing, that there were so many high-ranking officials on the list, to release their names would have resulted in nationwide riots. We already know that Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and Prince Andrew were on the list. Let that set in, the FBI said hiding the names of the pedophiles involved in the Epstein case was a matter of national security.... WTF Seems to me the FBI is doing the OPPOSITE of what they should be doing. They should be following every lead to every single person involved then bringing those people to justice one by one. Everyone involved should have their photos posted in the paper and their careers ruined. The only conclusion a thinking person can come to with this end result is that instead of prosecuting the pedophiles involved, our justice system (if you can call it that) is protecting them. Another sad day to be an American and more proof that the rich do not live by the same laws as we peasants. Thank you for tuning in! This was a conversation that made us lose track of time.  Because even if the core conversation about transracial adoption doesn't capture your attention - which it should because nearly 30% of kids who are adopted are adopted across borders or across cultures or race - the trajectory this conversation takes into why adoption should NOT be positioned as a solution to abortion absolutely is a perspective you don't want to miss - along with all the other nuggets of wisdom around identity and belonging as well. Thrilled to be bringing you insights from Patrick Armstrong, someone we don't just know from the virtual airwaves but now, thanks to some great opportunities to speak together, in real life too. And if you want to hear more about his journey as not only an adoptee, but as an outspoken advocate for adoptees and, due to his lived experience, transracial adoptees in particular, you're going to want to listen all the way to the end, and then follow him on every platform out there. What to listen for:  The moment that Patrick - a transracial adoptee from Korea, raised in a White family - realized that he wanted to explore his Asian identity.  Hat tip, Always Be My Maybe. How transracial adoption shaped Patrick's identity and influenced his sense of belonging That adoption currently centers the child - and the importance of considering the adults, and how broken the systems are that lead to families being torn apart  Thoughts on positioning adoption as the alternative to abortion.  Hint: It's not. About Patrick:   Patrick Armstrong (he/him) is a transracial Korean American adoptee, podcaster, speaker, and advocate. He is one of the co-hosts of the Janchi Show, a podcast that explores and celebrates the experiences and stories of Korean adoptees everywhere. In this episode: Beorn from the Stereo app for part 2 of 3 from 10.7.22. Beorn www.stereo.com/beorn IG @stereobeorn Follow me on Stereo - www.stereo.com/andanotherthing We delve into some controversial topics in this episode. We are being distracted with the pronoun debate while we ignore Julian Assange in jail and continued war crimes. Wedge issues continue to divide us preventing us from seeing our mutual oppressor and taking steps toward real change. Please check out the Peoples Party www.peoplesparty.org I am not a party loyalist, as a matter of fact, I am an independent. In my humble opinion a politician's stance on issues is much more important than their personal demographics. Yes, it would be nice to finally have a female president here in the US, but the right president based on their policies is more important than having a female president with horrible policies. It is true we need to move away from being a country being ruled by rich old white men, but we need to be careful that we do not elect a wolf in sheep's clothing. Politics should be about policies not personal identity. Yes, we want the diversity of our country represented in our government, but we need elected officials that have their eye on the important issues such as Universal Healthcare, reeling in the military budget, making college education free, and ending our imperialistic foreign policy. It is time we put America first and invest in our own country instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars abroad being the world's police. It is time we put the needs of the American people above corporate profit. Our military is primarily used to secure energy resources and ensure corporate profits. If we cut the military budget in half, we would still be spending $50 billion a year more than China which has the next largest military budget. With the money saved ($400 billion a year) we could invest in our people. Free college with a direct path to internships and jobs. Free trade schools with a direct path to apprenticeships under contractors. Universal Healthcare for all Americans so we can address the leading cause of bankruptcy for Americans which is medical debt. Free mental healthcare to address the epidemic of mass shootings we have in this country. As well as providing incentives for solar panel and electric vehicle purchase. Imagine if the government instead of spending on the bloated military budget offered government home loans with no payments due for the first 5 years. Imagine if we housed the 500,000 homeless which studies show would be cheaper than what we are doing now. We could not only house the homeless but provide computer and job training to help people reintegrate into society. Finland has done this with great success. Thank you for tuning in! In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston sneaks in an episode about Black Friday. This is not your typical Black Friday episode however, nor is the advice given herein... Preston poses the question of whether we should even participate in Black Friday sales and advertising? He goes on to give his opinion and past experiences with this holiday sales period. Should you take part, or should you not take part? This episode will give you some good ideas either way. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M.
