Raymond Lavine is an extended care benefits advisor. He advises and designs long-term care benefits for families and LTC benefits for companies. Tanya Wojtowych grew up on Ranger Stations in the Pacific Northwest, majored in Soviet Studies and Defense at an east coast University, then spent several years trying to get closer to her roots while working in Europe. After stints in New York and the Bay Area, Tanya settled back into the Pacific North West to work primarily in agriculture (the wine industry, Dry Pea and Lentil Council, Direct Seed Association) and finally married and established a private Agriculture Research farm. The pursuit of learning about her “Tato's” life and what made him such a remarkable man has consumed most of her “free” time. Julian Wojtowych, a Ukrainian patriot born into the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1916, lived the last year of his life with Tanya in Genesee, Idaho. As his mind veered between worlds, Tanya learned more than she ever wanted to know about the terrors of his past. After his death in 1998 Tamya pursued facts and characters to answer all the questions she never asked. The downfall of the Soviet Union and rapid development of the internet and digitized information sources helped immeasurably. Tanya's quest introduced her to fascinating places and wonderful people—one of whom is Oxana Lapchuk Koval.Oxana Lapchuk had a dream to write her father's holocaust story. She traveled to Buchenwald Concentration Camp in Germany to get the timeline of the four different camps he was in. The Archives Division provided her with that information and she was able to complete the book. Oxana Lapchuk was born in NYC almost the same year her father emigrated to the United States. He brought her up to respect her heritage and sent her from an early age to learn Ukrainian history and culture. This knowledge has served Oxana well since she was able to work as an interpreter in the 90s for various organizations in Ukraine and Israel as well as Europe. Oxana traveled with a team to women's prisons in Ukraine where she encouraged the inmates and was able to instill in them hope for a new life. She also went to orphanages, medical facilities, law enforcement agencies as well as military installations.Oxana has a BA from Queens College and an MA from Gordon-Conwell Seminary. Aftergraduating she worked in full time ministry for a season in New York City.Oxana taught the 4th and 6th grades in New Jersey. After that she worked for CBS news at the Broadcast Center and as an administrator for the Laymen's National Bible Committee.Since then Oxana worked in various sales positions in the insurance industry selling LongTerm Care policies, Life, Disability. Oxana worked as a benefit counselor doing groupinsurance to educate employees about their benefits. She still does that from time to time on an on-call basis. Oxana had a dream to write her father's holocaust story. She traveled to Buchenwald Concentration Camp in Germany to get the timeline of the four different camps he was in. She is a licensed clinical social worker who maintained a private practice in psychotherapy in Los Angeles for thirty-five years. She specialized in the treatment of individuals, couples, and survivors of childhood maltreatment.Dr. Smith's book, Youth Leaving Foster Care: A developmental, relationship-based approach to practice, published by Oxford University Press in 2011, is the text for courses on social work practice with youth leaving foster care. Smith has published academic articles on adolescent brain development, psychotherapy, and virtual social work education, and lectures on child and adolescent development, effects of trauma and maltreatment, and the transition from foster care.Dr. Smith was born in London, England, the child of refugees from Nazi Germany.
