Brother Singh invites us to bask in the measureless love of our God. The composer of the magnificent hymn, 'The Love of God,' Frederick M Lehman (1868-1953), wrote with divine inspiration. The first line lines: "The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell."
As one of the greatest lyrical songs in all of hymnody, "The Love of God" stands apart from many. Frederick M. Lehman's hymn is astoundingly beautiful in its use of language and yet even with its amazing imagery it calls itself out for not being able to truly expound upon the vastness of God's love for us.In this episode I explore the story and then get to talk about this hymn's powerful words and rich poetry with my brother, Matt Peavyhouse. He gives great insight into this hymn and its picturesque presentation of the gospel to each of us. I had a great time getting to sit and talk with him and I hope you'll enjoy it too! As always, thanks for listening.Support the show

When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his seed, he will prolong his days, and by his hand, the Lord's pleasure will be accomplished. After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities".- (Isaiah 53:10-11, CSB) [1] 1:25 What is the cost of salvation? 3:20 What do we do with the temptation to wonder why bad things are happening even though I'm transforming from my addictive lifestyle? 11:30 What are the implications for the cross for addicts? This week we're looking at the hymn "The Love of God" by Frederick M. Lehman. Join us as we seek after God's Own Heart by looking at the depth of His love and His heart for us.
"Frederick M. Lehman was a California businessman that lost everything. In the midst of his struggles, he began writing this amazing song. But it remained unfinished until words found scrawled on the wall of an insane asylum provided its final stanza."
An encouragement echoed by Frederick M Lehman, a pastor who died on February 20, 1953, best known for his treasured hymn "The Love of God."
REFLECTION QUOTES “The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell; The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin. When hoary time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall, When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call, God's love so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam's race— The saints' and angels' song. Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.” ~ Frederick M. Lehman, “The Love of God” “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.'” ~ Lamentations 3:22-24 (ESV SERMON PASSAGE Psalm 33 (ESV) 1 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. 2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. 4 For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! 13 The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; 14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, 15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. 16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, 19 that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
