The Cincinnati Bengals' biggest needs in free agency this offseason center squarely on fixing what went wrong in 2025, particularly on defense and the trenches, and making sure Joe Burrow is protected and supported as the team looks to return to contention in 2026. 1. Defensive Pass Rush & Defensive Line Cincinnati's defense was among the worst in the NFL, and the pass rush was a primary culprit. With veteran Trey Hendrickson likely to test free agency or leave, the Bengals will need to bring in multiple edge rushers or interior disruptors to generate pressure and improve sack production. Analysts suggest targeting veterans or quality starters to rebuild that front seven alongside young pieces. 2. Linebacker Leadership & Run Defense Linebacker play was inconsistent, and adding a proven, tackling-savvy veteran could stabilize the unit and mentor younger players. Rumored targets like Demario Davis have popped up as potential fits to add leadership and tackling reliability. 3. Secondary Help (Safety/DB Depth) The secondary has been shaky for years, especially after losing key contributors and with potential departures looming. Adding a play-maker or reliable veteran safety should be on the Bengals' list, complementing a corner group that has some talent but lacks depth. 4. Interior Offensive Line (Guard Help & Protection) While the Bengals fortified their offense around Burrow with extensions for his top receivers, the offensive line—especially at guard—remains a concern. Protecting Burrow and improving the run game will likely necessitate targeting quality interior offensive linemen in free agency or re-signing key contributors such as Dalton Risner. 5. Depth on Run Defense (DT) and Overall Front Seven Run defense rankings were poor, and adding size and disruption inside—whether at defensive tackle or versatile linemen—should be a priority to keep opposing ground games in check. Overall, the Bengals have cap space to be active, and while offense remains strong, biggest offseason focus in free agency will plausibly be defensive upgrades and offensive line reinforcement to balance the roster and give Cincinnati a chance to compete again. In this episode of the Admittedly Podcast, Thomas Caleel takes on one of the most misunderstood parts of college preparation: extracurricular activities. Parents often worry their students aren't doing enough, while students feel overwhelmed trying to "keep up" with friends who seem to be involved in everything. Drawing on nearly two decades of work in selective admissions, Thomas explains why the real problem isn't a lack of activities — it's a lack of intention. He breaks down what extracurriculars actually signal to admissions officers, why a long list of clubs rarely helps, and how students can create impact by going deeper on the things they genuinely care about. Thomas outlines a clear framework for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, showing how each year plays a different role in forming a student's academic identity and demonstrating curiosity, leadership, and growth. Through real examples of admitted students — from future engineers to artists to first-gen leaders — listeners learn how meaningful contributions often come from everyday opportunities like jobs, family commitments, summer projects, and community involvement. This episode is especially valuable for families navigating burnout, confusion, or pressure around extracurriculars, as well as students aiming for highly selective colleges where depth, impact, and authenticity matter far more than checking boxes. Key Takeaways: • Extracurriculars are about revealing who you are — not proving how busy you can be. • Depth and impact matter more than the number of activities on a list. • Freshmen should explore widely; sophomores should curate; juniors should deepen and lead. • Summers are a major opportunity to show academic interest through real experiences. • Jobs, family responsibilities, and community work carry significant weight in admissions. • The fastest way to fall behind is copying what other students do instead of following your own curiosity. Listeners can continue the conversation by following @admittedlyco on Instagram and TikTok, where Thomas answers questions and shares weekly admissions guidance. Additional tools, guides, and free resources to help your family approach this process with clarity and confidence can be found at admittedly.co. As constraints on energy, water, and permitting collide with exploding demand for AI and compute, a once-fringe idea is moving rapidly toward the center of the conversation: putting data centers in space. Starcloud believes orbital infrastructure isn't science fiction—it's a necessary extension of the global compute stack if scaling is going to continue at anything close to its current pace.Founded by Philip Johnston, Starcloud is building space-based compute systems designed to compete on cost, performance, and scale with terrestrial data centers. The company has already flown a data center–grade GPU in orbit and is now working toward larger, commercially viable systems that could reshape where and how AI is powered. We discuss:How energy and permitting constraints are reshaping the future of computeWhy space-based data centers may be economically inevitable, not optionalWhat Starcloud proved by running an H100 GPU in orbitHow launch costs, watts-per-kilogram, and chip longevity define the real economicsThe national security implications of who controls future compute capacity • Chapters •00:00 - Intro00:50 - The issue with data centers02:20 - Explosion of the data center debates04:58 - Philip's 5GW data center rendering and early conceptions of data centers in space at YC08:16 - Proving people wrong11:17 - The team at Starcloud today12:29 - Competing against SpaceX's data center14:42 - Sam Altman's beef with Starlink16:52 - Economics of Orbital vs Terrestrial Data Centers by Andrew McCallip21:33 - Where are we putting these things?23:50 - Latency in space25:59 - Political side of building data centers28:36 - Starcloud 130:16 - Space based processors30:51 - Shakespeare in space32:00 - Hardening an Nvidia H100 against radiation and making chips in space economical34:43 - Cooling systems in space36:01 - How Starcloud is thinking about replacing failed GPUs38:46 - The mission for Starcloud 240:05 - Competitors outside of SpaceX40:49 - Getting to economical launch costs44:35 - Will the next great wars be over water and power for data centers?46:25 - What keeps Philip up at night?47:11 - What keeps Mo up at night? • Show notes •Starcloud's website — https://www.starcloud.com/Philip's socials — https://x.com/PhilipJohnstonMo's socials — https://x.com/itsmoislamPayload's socials — https://twitter.com/payloadspace / https://www.linkedin.com/company/payloadspaceIgnition's socials — https://twitter.com/ignitionnuclear / https://www.linkedin.com/company/ignition-nuclear/Tectonic's socials — https://twitter.com/tectonicdefense / https://www.linkedin.com/company/tectonicdefense/Valley of Depth archive — Listen: https://pod.payloadspace.com/ • About us •Valley of Depth is a podcast about the technologies that matter — and the people building them. CW: As a heads up, Aaron describes the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, which includes mention of rape. If this is a tender subject for you, please take care while listening. This week, Mary B is joined by biblical scholars Jennifer Garcia Bashaw and Aaron Higashi to discuss their upcoming book Serving Up Scripture: How to Interpret the Bible for Yourself and Others. The book offers accessible tools for interpreting scripture with care, curiosity, and context. Rather than a black and white understanding of the text as right or wrong, Bashaw and Higashi invite readers to ask important questions of the text: What genre is this? Who wrote it, and under what circumstances? Who benefits from this interpretation, and which social relationships are being privileged? They also encourage theological reflection, asking what a passage suggests about God.Using cooking as a guiding metaphor, Serving Up Scripture treats biblical texts as ingredients to create a meaningful interpretation. In this conversation, Mary, Jen, and Aaron explore how this approach can help defang interpretations of the Bible that have been used to harm others. As Higashi, quoting St. Augustine, reminds us, “any understanding of the Bible that increases the two fold love between human beings and each other, or human beings and God is a good interpretation.”Jennifer Garcia Bashaw is a professor at Campbell University and an ordained Baptist minister. She has a PhD in New Testament from Fuller Seminary and is the author of Scapegoats: The Gospel through the Eyes of Victims and John for Normal People: A Guide through the Drama and Depth of the Fourth Gospel.Aaron Higashi is a public Bible scholar with a PhD in biblical interpretation from Chicago Theological Seminary. He writes Bible commentaries, including 1 & 2 Samuel for Normal People: A Guide to Prophets, Kings, and Some Pretty Terrible Men, and answers Bible questions on Instagram at @abhigashi.Preorder your copy of Serving Up Scripture wherever you buy books. In this research review episode of the By Any Means Coaches Podcast, the conversation dives deep into the impact of scaled equipment—lower rims, smaller basketballs, and modified environments—on youth basketball development. Through the lens of current research and the constraints-led approach, the episode challenges long-held assumptions about “toughening kids up” with regulation equipment and instead explores how properly scaled tasks can accelerate skill acquisition, improve movement quality, and foster long-term engagement with the game.Beyond shooting percentages, this episode explores how scaled environments influence biomechanics, perception, psychology, and decision-making. From earlier emergence of adult-like mechanics to increased confidence, creativity, and adaptability, the discussion highlights why many technical “flaws” are actually functional solutions to poorly designed tasks—and how fixing the environment often fixes the movement without excessive coaching cues.Episode Timestamps00:00 – Introduction and context for the research review 00:26 – Why scaled equipment is worth revisiting through research 01:40 – Overview of studies and research synthesis approach 02:07 – Performance vs development vs psychology 02:42 – Key findings from the research 03:55 – Shooting mechanics, arc, and energy transfer 04:42 – Trunk lean, elbow flare, and acceptable technique ranges 05:54 – Why mechanics improve without technical instruction 06:24 – Psychological benefits: confidence, enjoyment, and volume 07:31 – Motivation, success, and long-term engagement 08:11 – Spacing and offensive behavior in scaled environments 09:02 – Finishing degrees of freedom and creativity 09:42 – Movement exploration with smaller basketballs 11:09 – Early developer bias created by regulation equipment 12:13 – Compensation vs challenge in youth shooting 12:38 – Depth perception and shooting range development 13:46 – Adaptability vs rigid technique 14:17 – Constraints-led approach applied to shooting 15:39 – Why many shooting drills are compensatory fixes 16:26 – Observational learning and imitation 18:05 – Finding the optimal challenge point 19:20 – External focus and freer shooting behavior 20:11 – Rhythm, sequencing, and adaptable skill development 20:37 – Practical coaching implications 21:44 – What to do when scaled equipment isn't available 22:38 – Playing athletes up or down based on physical maturity 23:14 – Supplementing constraints with cues and observation 24:57 – Sport crossover effects and task design solutions 25:34 – Final takeaways and practical applicationsCoaching Resources: https://www.byanymeansbasketball.comBAM Blueprint Book: https://www.byanymeansbasketball.com/bam-blueprintIf this episode challenged the way you think about youth development: share it with a coach or parent who needs to hear it.
