How One Practice Grew EBITDA by 300% with Expert Consulting Guest: Lisa Lickstein — Award-Winning Practice Owner & Visionary Leader Host: Terri Ross, Founder & CEO of Terri Ross Consulting Guest Spotlight: Lisa Lickstein, MSW, MBA Co-owner, Lickstein Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa Founder, Women in Business Mentorship Academy Certified Coach + Speaker in Unreasonable Hospitality Lisa Lickstein is the co-owner of Lickstein Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa, with two locations in South Florida and a thriving team of 40. With dual degrees in social work and finance, Lisa brings a rare mix of emotional intelligence and business acumen to her leadership. Their practice was recently named 2024 Business of the Year by the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce — but even with that level of success, Lisa knew something had to shift behind the scenes and she was not above seeking out expert help from TRC. Episode Overview: In this transparent and insightful episode, Lisa opens up about the real challenges aesthetic practices face as they grow — especially when rapid success exposes operational blind spots. She shares: How a failed acquisition deal became a turning point. Why the non-surgical side of their practice needed TRC's expertise. The tension between managing day-to-day operations and planning for scale. And ultimately, why she chose to work with Terri Ross Consulting to course-correct and accelerate growth. Lisa and Terri dive into the mindset shift that must happen when a practice is struggling or outgrows its existing systems — and how expert consulting gave her the tools, clarity, and partnership she needed to align both sides of the business for future success. Key Takeaways: Success Without Strategy Creates Stagnation Even top-tier practices with strong culture and revenue can stall if they're not built for scale. Lisa shares how, despite earning just over 8 figures annually, her practice had room to grow — and needed expert guidance to help her achieve this Leadership Doesn't Mean Doing It Alone Lisa reveals the decision to seek outside help wasn't a weakness, but a strategic strength. Working with TRC signaled to her team, partners, and potential buyers that she was serious about intentional growth. Realized 300% ROI from TRC on EBITDA Growth, Realigned Teams, and a Profitable Exit Through TRC's Business Evaluation and ongoing consulting, The Medical Spa team at Lickstein Plastic Surgery saw EBITDA increase by $300,000 – a massive 300% return on their investment with TRC — while realigning internal teams, improving treatment planning, and setting the foundation for a major acquisition. Collaboration, Not Replacement Lisa applauds TRC's collaborative approach — working seamlessly with existing consultants and ensuring every partner brought their best to the table. The Emotional Side of Business Describing the consulting experience as "business therapy," Lisa shares how TRC helped restore balance between the surgical and non-surgical sides of the practice — keeping both teams valued and aligned. Stephen Weisberg is a Detroit-based tax attorney who helps individuals and business owners resolve IRS controversies and tax-debt issues. In this episode, he shares how the 2008 recession launched him from corporate bankruptcy work into tax law, why most people wait too long to seek help, and what every lawyer (and taxpayer) should know before they get that letter from the IRS.What You Can Do With a Law DegreeStephen's journey proves that a law degree is both a credential and a toolkit. His early work in bankruptcy law introduced him to financial systems and creditor negotiations, while his tax practice taught him how to translate that technical knowledge into advocacy for everyday people. Tax controversy work isn't glamorous, but it's vital—and it's year-round.“People think I'm busiest during tax season, but that's when the IRS is focused on filing. My work happens the rest of the year," shares Stephen Weisberg on Episode 217 of You Are a Lawyer. He's built a steady stream of clients through LinkedIn networking, attorney referrals, and partnerships with CPAs, CFOs, and financial planners. The relationships he's developed prove that collaboration, not competition, sustains a modern law practice. Most of his cases are handled remotely by phone or Zoom, reflecting how legal work has evolved since the pandemic.Did you know that children as young as 10 can be prosecuted as adults in Pennsylvania? You Are A Lawyer has partnered with YSRP, the Youth Sentencing and Re-Entry Project, to bring awareness to their fight to keep young people out of adult prisons and to advocate for youth lifers. What if you were certain you were perfectly healthy — but everyone around you insisted you had schizophrenia? This may not be denial; it could be anosognosia — a neurological symptom that prevents people from recognizing they have a mental illness. In this special bonus episode, host Rachel Star Withers, who lives with schizophrenia, sits down with Dr. Xavier Amador, world-renowned psychologist and founder of the LEAP Institute, to unravel one of the most misunderstood symptoms in psychiatry. Dr. Amador, author of the bestselling book “I Am Not Sick, I Don't Need Help!,” shares the science behind anosognosia, why logic and education often fail, and how empathy and connection can bridge the gap between awareness and treatment. Drawing from his own family's experience, Dr. Amador introduces the LEAP method (Listen, Empathize, Agree, Partner) — a revolutionary communication strategy proven to help loved ones accept treatment, even when they don't believe they're ill. In this episode, I break down one of the biggest mindset traps I see in college baseball recruiting: the “Division 1 or bust” mentality. A lot of players tell me their plan is to go to a Division 2 or Division 3 school for a year, then hit the transfer portal to move up to D1. But in reality, that mindset usually backfires.I share why focusing only on yourself and your end goal often guarantees you won't get there and what kind of mindset actually leads to growth, success, and new opportunities. The players who go on to transfer successfully don't chase D1. They buy in, go all-in on their current program, and play for the love of the game. That's what makes them stand out to coaches at every level. If you're a high school player or a parent helping your son navigate recruiting, this episode will help you reframe your goals and focus on what really matters.Follow Patrick Jones Baseball on X and Instagramhttps://x.com/pjonesbaseballhttps://www.instagram.com/pjonesbaseball/

Imagine everyone around you — family, friends, even your doctors — insisting you have a serious mental illness, yet you're certain they're wrong. This isn't denial — it's a symptom called anosognosia, a lack of awareness that can make treatment nearly impossible. In this episode, guest host Rachel Star Withers, who lives with schizophrenia, speaks with Dr. Xavier Amador, Founder and President of the LEAP Institute and author of the bestseller “I Am Not Sick, I Don't Need Help!” Together, they unpack what anosognosia is, why it prevents so many people from accepting help, and how loved ones can build trust and connection instead of conflict. Dr. Amador has trained tens of thousands of professionals and families in his LEAP method — Listen, Empathize, Agree, Partner — a practical, compassionate approach that helps bridge the gap between awareness and recovery. Please Note: Our regular host, Gabe Howard, will be back next week! “I refuse to get any help because this is not a diagnosis. I don't need this medication. This medication is bad for me. They really don't understand that they have an illness. We need to help people who have anosognosia... They're being pushed through the cracks. They're ending up homeless. They're ending up in our criminal justice system. They're ending up in back bedrooms alone, not talking to family. I mean, they deserve us, us to be attending to this problem.” ~Dr. Xavier Amador, author of I Am Not Sick, I Don't Need Help! In this episode, I sit down with Michael Wood, assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of South Alabama, a D1 program located in Mobile, AL. We dive into his path through college baseball coaching and what he's learned evaluating players at different levels of the game. We talk about the mentality it takes to succeed, why preparation separates players who stick from those who don't, and how the practice environment is different between junior college and Division I.Michael also gives us an inside look at how NCAA and NJCAA rules shape the way he and his staff recruit, and what he's really paying attention to when he evaluates high potential recruits. We wrap up by talking about the incredible tradition of South Alabama baseball—why it's such a special place to play and what makes it a great fit for competitors who want to grow at the highest level. On X:Michael Wood: @woodromang153South Alabama Baseball: @SouthAlabamaBSBPatrick Jones Baseball: @pjonesbaseball
