Coach Shannon Miller begins her own hockey podcast show sponsored by IN STAT in which she will talk a lot of hockey but also discuss other topics important in the world of women’s sport. The show will be weekly throughout the hockey season and will feature an exclusive guest interview, plus a sidebar and Drill of the Week. On this first episode Shannon talks about the start of hockey season, forming a new team, assigning roles on the team, some X’s and O’s of the game, she explains how she favors an attacking game — not the “dump and chase” style of play or robotic play.  And to kick off this new show Shannon’s first guest is Bianna Decker, a member of the 2018 USA gold medal winning Olympic hockey team in South Korea. Brianna has many other accomplishments in hockey, as well as fighting for Equal Pay inside USA Hockey. SIDEBAR is a comment on something current in the news, a quote, a short story, or a team building exercise.  “I have a passion for fairness and justice - that’s why I filed a federal lawsuit against the UM for Sex Discrimination and won. And that’s why female colleagues Jen Banford, softball head coach, and Annette Wiles, Basketball head coach joined me to file a state lawsuit claim for discrimination based on sexual orientation as well as other claims. Women are standing up to corrupt, discriminatory male power and things are changing. Visit Shannon’s Facebook page for the Drill of the Week.
