In 2012, historian Karen Cox is digging through the Mississippi State Archives when an archivist tells her, “If you want to know about Natchez, you need to look at Goat Castle.” Cox expects a ghost story. What she finds is stranger and darker: a 1932 murder that turned into a national Southern Gothic spectacle. The victim was a reclusive former Southern belle. The suspects were her eccentric neighbors, a failed concert pianist and an aging socialite, living in a decaying mansion overrun with goats. Newspapers dubbed them the Wild Man and the Goat Woman, and tourists flocked to Natchez to gawk. But beneath the spectacle was the real tragedy: Emily Burns, a young Black woman forced into the story and ultimately blamed, while the white suspects became local celebrities. Sent to Mississippi's brutal Parchman prison, Emily was erased from the public record. Cox set out to write her back in and to expose what Goat Castle reveals about justice in the Jim Crow South. “Surround sound for biological cells,” is how Luke Cox describes the ultrasound technology that Impulsonics has developed to solve the “unsticking problem” in biomedical science. Cox is co-founder and chief executive of UK-based Impulsonics, which spun-out of the University of Bristol in 2023. He is also my guest in this episode of the Physics World Weekly podcast. He explains why living cells grown in a petri dish tend to stick together, and why this can be a barrier to scientific research and the development of new medical treatments. The system uses an array of ultrasound transducers to focus sound so that it frees-up and manipulates cells in a way that does not alter their biological properties. This is unlike chemical unsticking processes, which can change cells and impact research results. Today I want to talk about something that looks like it belongs in an auto industry newsletter, but it's actually a leading indicator for the broader economy, and it matters for real estate investors.Walk onto an auto dealer lot today and you'll see a lot more sheet metal sitting still than you're used to seeing. The lots look full, and in many cases, they are. But the more important metric is not “how many cars you see,” it's how long they're sitting there.Cox Automotive reported that in January 2026 the U.S. market began February with inventory around 2.77 million units, and the key line was this, days' supply jumped to 98, driven by a notably slower sales pace. When days' supply rises, the story is simple, the vehicle is not moving, the consumer is hesitating. And that jump happened fast. Cox noted days' supply around 76 in the prior period, then up to 98 as sales slowed. CarEdge tracks market day supply by vehicle, essentially how long it would take to sell existing listings at the current sales pace. In late winter 2026, some models are showing truly abnormal numbers, deep into the multiple hundreds of days. The attached notes you provided list examples like the Dodge Charger around 406 days, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer around 463 days, and the Volkswagen ID.4 around 480 days of supply, which is beyond “slow,” that's a demand breakdown at the price point. Even some Korean cars are showing huge inventory. The Hyundai Sonata has 201 days of inventory on dealer lots. The Hyundai Santa Crus has 222 days on dealer lots. The Buick Envision which incidentally is made in China has 267 days of inventory on dealer lots. This month Dr. Kurt Olding shares with us the latest published research on compression fractures, Gabapentin (Neurontin), degenerative scoliosis, epidurals, non-contained discs and spondylolisthesis. Dr. Kurt Olding has been in practice for over 40 years, opening Minster Chiropractic Center in 1986 after graduating from National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, IL in 1984. Through the years Dr. Kurt has enjoyed treating all age groups, from infants to athletes and parents to grandparents. He took special interest in sports medicine during his early years in practice, completing 300 hours of continuing education through the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician program. Dr. Kurt earned Cox® Technic certification in 2009. In 2012 he began co-instructing the technique, and since 2015 has been a full-time instructor alongside Dr. James Cox, Dr. Ralph Kruse, and Dr. George Joachim. Through his work with Cox® Technic, Dr. Kurt has had several exciting opportunities. In March of 2016, he taught Cox® Technic in Bern, Switzerland as part of the Swiss Chiropractic Academy's "technique series" program. Later that month, he presented research on Cox® Technic with his mentor Dr. James Cox at the annual Association of Chiropractic Colleges Research Agenda Conference. Dr. Kurt co-authored a paper published in the June 2016 edition of the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine titled Chiropractic Distraction Spinal Manipulation on Post-surgical Continued Low Back and Radicular Pain patients: A Retrospective Case Series. In 2015, Dr. Kurt became board certified as a Chiropractic Orthopedist, and a Fellow of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (FACO). He is also a board member of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists, serving since early 2016. Dr. Kurt and his wife Jackie are Minster natives. They have three children: Sunni, Kregg, and Jack.
