Heute ist das Internet überall: in der Hosentasche, im Auto, am Handgelenk. Doch 1996 stürmt ein Mann die «Benissimo»-Bühne und fleht Quizmaster Beni Thurnheer an, ihm den Weg ins Internet zu zeigen. Ein Blick zurück auf die Jahre, in denen das Internet in der Schweiz zum Massenmedium wird. Um die Jahrtausendwende wird das Internet in der Schweiz zum Massenmedium. 1997 hat es erst gut jede und jeder Siebte genutzt, fünf Jahre später sind es mit über 60 Prozent schon mehr als die Hälfte. Gleichzeitig verschwindet das alte Monopol: Auf den 1. Januar 1998 wird die PTT aufgeteilt – in die Post und in die teilprivatisierte Swisscom. Plötzlich gibt es Konkurrenz, Anbieter wie diAx, Cablecom oder Sunrise buhlen um die Kundschaft. Doch abseits der grossen Player ist längst eine andere Szene am Werk: Hobby-Netzwerker, Bastler, Hacker. Einer von ihnen ist Steff Gruber. Schon in den frühen 80er Jahren wählt er sich mit einem in Japan gekauften Modem in Mailboxen ein und gehört bald zu einer kleinen, weltweiten Gemeinschaft von Computer-Hackern – über einen Router im Keller der ETH gelangt er sogar bis ins CERN. Mit seinem Verein Cultnet baut er einen der ersten öffentlichen Mailbox-Anbieter der Schweiz auf und schliesst ihn ans Netz der PTT an, die ihn als Radiopiraten einst gejagt hatte. Den Vertrag dazu schreiben sie auf ein Papier-Tischset. Reich wird Gruber damit nicht. Dafür verkauft er später eine Internet-Adresse, die er einst registriert hat, an Microsoft: xbox.com. Über den Preis wird Stillschweigen vereinbart, doch es ist wohl eine der höchsten Summen, die je in der Schweiz für eine Domain bezahlt wurde. Erst muss das Internet aber seine erste grosse Krise überstehen. Anfang der Nuller-Jahre scheint eine Webseite mit «.com»-Endung schon fast eine Lizenz zum Gelddrucken. Am 10. März 2000 erreicht der Technologie-Index NASDAQ seinen Höchststand, dann platzt die Dotcom-Blase. Ieri, giovedì 4 giugno, Donald junior è stato ospite nella centralissima “Zunfthaus zum Saffran”, la lussuosa sede della “Corporazione dello zafferano” per un incontro a porte chiuse tra uomini d'affari, voluto dalla “Davos Lodge”, una piattaforma che ruota attorno al WEF di Davos e che organizza eventi per i maggiori leader mondiali, come si può leggere sul suo sito. A due passi dalla Limmat, Donald junior terrà un discorso, a quanto pare incentrato sulle tante sfide geopolitiche del momento. Ma darà anche uno sguardo all'andamento dell'economia mondiale. Un'occasione per Modem di parlare dell'impero finanziario della famiglia Trump, che ruota attorno ad oltre 500 società attive negli ambiti più disparati. I due figli maggiori del presidente gestiscono la “Trump organization”, la società che sta alla testa di tutto questa estesa ramificazione societaria, con un'attenzione particolare all'intelligenza artificiale e alle criptomonete. Secondo Forbes e Bloomberg la ricchezza di Trump è passata da 2 a 6 miliardi da quando The Donald è tornato alla Casa Bianca, ormai 18 mesi fa. Una ricchezza che coinvolge anche la famiglia, basti dire che sua figlia Ivanka e il marito Jared Kushner hanno messo gli occhi su un'isola albanese, per costruirvi un'imponente struttura alberghiera d'alto rango. Un progetto che in questi giorni ha spinto alcune migliaia di persone a manifestare nelle strade della capitale Tirana, per protestare contro questa privatizzazione del suolo nazionale albanese.Del regno e dei dollari dei Trump discuteremo con:

I telefonini sempre più intelligenti, o smart che dir si voglia, quando sono fra le mani dei giovani attirano sempre più l'attenzione della politica. A livello federale si accumulano petizioni, mozioni e postulati in materia, tanto che il Consiglio federale è stato chiamato a preparare un rapporto sulla proposta di proibire l'uso delle piattaforme social ai minori di 16 anni. Una proibizione introdotta in vari paesi a cominciare dall'Australia, mentre Germania e Austria discutono di uno stop ai social per i minori di 14 anni. Una fra le misure in discussione, si discute infatti anche di imporre alle piattaforme social di rinunciare ai trucchetti che creano dipendenza o ancora di limitare durata e orari dell'utilizzo di certe applicazioni. Dal Centro media di palazzo federale, a Modem discutono sul tema due Consiglieri nazionali ticinesi:

È inizio maggio quando viene segnalato alle Ong presenti in Repubblica democratica del Congo un aumento di decessi dovuti a una sospetta febbre emorragica virale nella zona di Mongwalu, nella provincia nord-orientale dell'Ituri. A metà maggio le analisi di laboratorio confermano la presenza del virus Bundibugyo. Da allora ad oggi diventano chiare due cose: è in corso un'epidemia di Ebola – una malattia che il Paese conosce purtroppo bene – causata però da un tipo di virus meno comune, per il quale non esistono farmaci e vaccini. La risposta sanitaria parte, ma è lenta, difficile e l'epidemia si estende, toccando altre due province della RDC e l'Uganda. Un migliaio finora i casi confermati, 250 i morti, ma – come sottolinea l'Organizzazione mondiale della sanità - esistono grandi incertezze sul numero reale di persone infette e sulla diffusione della malattia, che si teme stia avanzando in modo estremamente rapido. Questo perché quella colpita è una regione estremamente instabile, con conflitti armati in corso e oltre due milioni di sfollati interni, che vivono in condizioni socio-sanitarie estremamente precarie. A Bulle la demografia ha vissuto un vero e proprio boom negli ultimi 15 anni. Nella cittadina del Canton Friborgo - capoluogo della regione della Gruyère e incoronata nel 2021 dalla rivista Bilan come la città più dinamica della Svizzera romanda – si è passati dai circa 10mila abitanti dei primi anni '80 ai 27'500 attuali. E la crescita non si arresta: solo negli ultimi 15 anni l'aumento è stato del 41%, con circa 700 nuovi abitanti ogni anno. Il 44% dei residenti è straniero e sono presenti 127 nazionalità.  Un mosaico cosmopolita che però porta con sé però anche aspetti negativi: classi da trenta allievi, prefabbricati, sfitto vicino allo zero, vendite immobiliari a 10'000 franchi al metro quadro e aumento dell'insicurezza. Un autogol costoso, rispondono i contrari, con tutto il fronte borghese schierato insieme a Governo, associazioni economiche e un altro fronte di attori del settore. Lo spauracchio: fino a 150 milioni di franchi all'anno di nuovi prelievi, per un sistema che già funziona bene. Sans majorité, le locataire de Matignon a engagé la responsabilité de son gouvernement devant l'Assemblée nationale dès mardi. Pour la quatrième année de suite, le Parlement ne votera pas le budget de l'État, malgré 350 heures de débat sur trois mois. Trois recours au 49.3 seront, au minimum, nécessaires : un premier sur la partie recettes du texte, un autre sur la partie dépenses et un dernier, en lecture définitive, sur l'ensemble du projet de loi de finances, après un passage au Sénat. Le chef du gouvernement espère clore la séquence budgétaire au cours de la première semaine de février.Partant du principe qu'ils ne seraient jamais d'accord avec le centre et la droite sur la partie recettes du budget, le PS a concentré, avec succès, ses revendications sur la partie dépenses. Sébastien Lecornu a coché quasiment toutes les cases des demandes formulées par les socialistes : création de 2 000 postes supplémentaires dans l'Éducation nationale, maintien de l'aide personnalisée au logement et des bourses étudiantes, généralisation du repas au Crous à 1 € pour tous les étudiants, maintien du dispositif MaPrimeRénov', augmentation de la prime d'activité, des moyens des bailleurs sociaux et du nombre d'accompagnants d'élèves en situation de handicap …Dans le bloc central et à droite, de nombreux députés ont marqué leur insatisfaction. Si personne ne s'attendait à une copie budgétaire conforme à ses attentes, certains points sont difficiles à avaler pour les députés du socle commun. En particulier chez Les Républicains où le maintien de la surtaxe de l'impôt sur les sociétés à hauteur de 8 milliards d'euros ainsi que l'abandon de la fin de la cotisation sur la valeur ajoutée des entreprises sont perçus comme une hérésie fiscale. Toutefois, le MoDem a obtenu le maintien des bourses étudiantes, la droite sénatoriale la préservation d'une partie des dotations aux collectivités locales, Renaissance le non-rabot des allégements de charges, Laurent Wauquiez l'indexation complète du barème de l'impôt sur le revenu et la préservation du pouvoir d'achat des retraités. Dès l'annonce du compromis noué par Sébastien Lecornu avec le PS, les deux têtes du parti, Bruno Retailleau et Laurent Wauquiez, n'ont d'ailleurs pas hésité à qualifier ce budget de « socialiste » et « imparfait », sans toutefois brandir la menace d'une éventuelle censure.Pour sa part, le président de la République a salué un budget qui permet « au pays d'avancer » et « de garantir une stabilité ».DE QUOI LE GROENLAND EST-IL L'ENJEU ?Plus grande île du monde (près de quatre fois la France métropolitaine),situé entre l'océan Atlantique Nord et l'océan Arctique, le Groenland, territoire danois autonome, est recouvert à 80 % par une calotte glaciaire. Il est peuplé d'environ 56.000 habitants, majoritairement Inuits, dont un tiers vit à Nuuk, la capitale. Depuis un an, la Maison-Blanche affirme que les États-Unis auraient « besoin » de s'étendre et que prendre le Groenland est, pour les Etats-Unis, une nécessité « vitale », une question de « sécurité nationale ». Or, le Groenland est déjà le pré carré des Américains dans l'Arctique. Ils y ont établi la base la plus septentrionale de leur arsenal, à 1500 km de Nuuk et 1200 km du cercle polaire arctique. Plus d'une centaine de soldats y sont déployés en permanence. Pour justifier ce besoin pressant de s'approprier un territoire de l'Otan, Donald Trumpa a déclaré : « Le Groenland est rempli de navires chinois et russes, partout. » Le président américain semble confondre le Groenland et l'océan Arctique ainsi que sa banquise. Car il n'y a pas l'ombre d'un Russe ou d'un Chinois au Groenland.Autre raison de l'intérêt suscité par le territoire autonome : les ressources naturelles, et notamment les terres rares, dont le sous-sol groenlandais regorge : cobalt, graphite, lithium, nickel, zinc, etc. Ces métaux entrent dans la fabrication des batteries, des éoliennes et de nombreux équipements électroniques. L'uranium constitue un autre point sensible. Pourtant, jusqu'à présent, très peu de projets d'extraction ont vu le jour. La mine est une activité surtout nécessitant des routes d'accès, des voies ferrées pour évacuer les métaux, des ports pour exporter le minerai, ainsi que des installations de première transformation. Or les infrastructures de ce type sont très limitées au Groenland qui a tenté pendant plus de cinquante ans d'exploiter du pétrole, avant de renoncer au début des années 2020.Comme dans le cas du Venezuela, l'énergie n'est pas l'unique prétexte d'agir pour Donald Trump qui veut pouvoir mettre à son crédit politique l'augmentation artificielle de la grandeur d'un pays, déjà plus grand que les autres. Le réel enjeu économique semble être celui des voies de navigation – qui se double d'un enjeu sécuritaire. Le Groenland se situe à proximité d'anciennes routes maritimes arctiques qui promettent de devenir de plus en plus facilement praticables en raison de l'accélération du réchauffement climatique – avec un impact plus immédiat sur la logistique militaire que sur l'économie mondiale.À Davos, mercredi, le président américain a déclaré qu'il n'utiliserait finalement pas la force pour conquérir le Groenland. Puis le Secrétaire général de l'Otan a proposé à Donald Trump un transfert de souveraineté de la base militaire de Pituffik. Reste à faire approuver ces concessions aux Danois et aux Groenlandais. Il a atteint 310 milliards de dollars Depuis 2019, le surplus chinois vis-à-vis de l'Europe a presque doublé. Et tout porte à croire qu'avec les droits de douane de Trump, qui ferment en grande partie la porte du marché américain aux exportations de l'empire du Milieu, ce phénomène est appelé à s'amplifier et à durer. Cela traduit l'impressionnante montée en puissance de la Chine dans un grand nombre de technologies, notamment dans les industries vertes, sur lesquelles l'Europe se retrouve désormais, dans un renversement du rapport de force, en position de demandeur. Face à la Chine, sur le plan économique et commercial, l'Europe n'est plus naïve : elle filtre les investissements ; applique des droits de douane sur les biens bénéficiant de subventions à la production, comme les voitures électriques ; travaille à desserrer l'étau de sa dépendance en ressources de base, comme les terres rares et les aimants permanents ; elle prend des mesures commerciales fortes, comme les quotas qui s'appliqueront pour l'acier et l'inox au 1er janvier prochain. Elle se convertit à l'idée, très française, de préférence européenne notamment pour les achats publics. Début décembre, le commissaire Stéphane Séjourné a porté à Bruxelles un texte pour conditionner les investissements en Europe à des transferts de technologie. Ces mesures révèlent un changement de logiciel de la Commission européenne, dans un rapport de force de plus en plus tendu avec Pékin. La prise de conscience des vulnérabilités stratégiques européennes gagne des pays pour qui le libre-échange était auparavant l'alpha et l'oméga, comme l'Allemagne, les Pays-Bas ou les Scandinaves.Pour sa quatrième visite d'État en Chine depuis 2017, du 3 au 5 décembre, Emmanuel Macron, qui était accompagné en 2023 par la présidente de la Commission européenne Ursula von der Leyen, a été bien seul face à Xi Jinping. Les Chinois sont aujourd'hui en position de force dans presque tous les domaines. Les contentieux entre la France et la Chine s'accumulent. L'Ukraine en est l'exemple le plus patent, à l'heure où Donald Trump cherche à précipiter un accord de paix, au risque de s'aligner sur les positions de Vladimir Poutine : bientôt quatre ans après l'invasion russe, Pékin n'a jamais faibli dans son soutien diplomatique et industriel à l'effort de guerre russe. Le numéro un chinois a opposé une fin de non-recevoir à la demande du chef de l'État français de faire pression sur la Russie. Le président français a également pressé son hôte sur le front économique, en quête d'un grand « rééquilibrage » avec là aussi une réponse fuyante de l'« usine du monde », qui déverse ses surcapacités industrielles aux quatre coins de la planète.LE BLOC CENTRAL S'EFFONDRE-T-IL ?Le projet de loi de financement de la Sécurité sociale est revenu mardi en deuxième lecture à l'Assemblée nationale. Vendredi, les députés ont adopté son volet recettes pour 2026, par 166 voix pour et 140 contre. Paradoxalement, le gouvernement s'inquiète davantage des votes du bloc central (Renaissance, Modem, Horizons, et LR) que de ceux des oppositions. Or les députés du parti Horizons, présidé par Édouard Philippe, n'entendent pas voter pour ce texte qui « ne propose pas de réduction du déficit, repose sur de nouvelles mesures de fiscalité et ne propose pas de nouvelles mesures de réduction de dépenses », selon le patron du groupe à l'Assemblée Paul Christophe. Des gestes ont été faits, sur la Défense, ou le prix de l'électricité, mais ce coup de pression venant d'un parti qui compte trois ministres au sein du gouvernement Lecornu, est mal compris par ses partenaires. Une adoption du texte, le 9 décembre, serait un succès pour le Premier ministre, qui espère provoquer ensuite une dynamique favorable sur le projet de budget de l'État. Les incertitudes demeurent d'autant plus que l'amertume monte au sein du bloc central, après avoir dû concéder des mesures aux socialistes, dont la suspension de la réforme des retraites de 2023.À un an et demi du scrutin présidentiel, dans un bloc central affaibli par les divisions et avec l'impopularité du président sortant, aucun candidat « naturel » n'a pour l'heure émergé. Seul prétendant déclaré, l'ancien Premier ministre Edouard Philippe s'efforce de s'imposer comme le candidat de la droite et du centre et exclut de passer par une primaire. Après son appel à la démission du président de la République, un sondage est venu, depuis, ébranler son camp. Selon le dernier baromètre Odoxa publié le 25 novembre, pour la première fois au second tour, face à Édouard Philippe, Jordan Bardella recueillerait 53% des voix. Quoi qu'il en soit de la fiabilité d'un sondage de deuxième tour dont les sondeurs eux-mêmes soulignent la fragilité, en avril dernier, Édouard Philippe était donné vainqueur de Jordan Bardella au second tour, avec 54% contre 46%. Cette baisse dans les sondages affecte tout le bloc central, soulignent les philippistes, alors que les discussions budgétaires au Parlement s'enlisent. L'affaiblissement de l'ancienne majorité présidentielle dans les sondages serait selon eux le résultat d'une « succession de mauvais choix » d'Emmanuel Macron, lequel aurait « contaminé » les prétendants issus de son camp. « Ils ne mouraient pas tous, mais tous étaient frappés », résume l'eurodéputée Nathalie Loiseau, membre d'Horizons.
