“We saw that women didn’t have the confidence to step up, so we were determined to change that for #GenerationEquality so that women of the future and women today have a better shot at being in senior levels roles.” - Denise D’Agostini On March 8th, LiveGirl celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) with the theme: “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future.” For this year's celebration, Sheri and Olivia sit down with Denise D’Agostini, Co-Founder of Her New Standard, and her daughter, Lauren to talk about the importance of challenging gender norms and empowering each other.  IWD is important because despite some progress, real change has been agonizingly slow for the majority of women and girls in the world. Today, not a single country can claim to have achieved gender equality. Multiple obstacles remain unchanged in law and in culture. And women and girls continue to be undervalued. Check out our conversation where Denise and Lauren share about the inspiration behind Her New Standard, the “playbook” for #nextgen leaders and the top things holding women and teens back.  Lauren is a 16-year-old high schooler, who attends Somers New York High School. Denise has 25 years of experience in Pharma, which includes serving as the Head of HR for both Bayer HealthCare and Ciba Specialty Chemicals. She later co-founded Her New Standard in 2013, stemming from her passion in developing women leaders & igniting confidence so that each individual reaches their greatest potential. Denise’s clients range from Fortune 500 to start-ups. Along with serving as HR Leader and Executive Coach at Her New Standard, Denise is ALSO an adjunct instructor at Cornell University, the ILR School of Human Capital Development.  Join #GenerationEquality. Be the first, the youngest, the best, and make sure no one is left behind. The future we create for women and girls up to all of us.

Episode Four features Associate Professor Jennifer Frost, a women's historian, Katie Cammell, and Louise Ryan from the University of Auckland discussing what it means to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). This day was set with certain, quite progressive, ideals for its time, aiming for equality and peace for all women. Over time this has progressed to equality and peace for all, irrespective of gender, race, and social standing. Despite these founding ideals, many controversies have arisen over the commercialisation of feminism, and the "colonial mindset" that is still prevalent in today's society. Discussions also took place around whether IWD is worthwhile considering that many people only think about these ideals on one day a year rather than every day of the year. #PressforProgress Our message for International Women's Day Meet the lady Gamers Kellie and Jocelyne who want to talk about International Women's Day (IWD) and were celebrating it this year at Tucson Games and Gadgets. On March 8 and I think this is a new tradition for every year! Today on International Women's Day we commemorate the movement for women's rights. While the first observance of a Women's Day was held on February 28, 1909 in New York, the 1910 International Woman’s Conference suggested March 8 to become an "International Woman's Day." International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has been observed since in the early 1900's - a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. In saying so, we had impromptu topics of conversation that discussed women's achievements...and possibly failures. Nike will soon begin selling a performance hijab for Muslim women athletes. The design process took 13 months, and the final product will be available for sale in the company's Spring 2018 season. Nike said the hijab is already being worn by Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari. Fantasia Barrino suffered 2nd degree burns to her arm when she knocked over a vaporizer in her sleep. She was dozing on her tour bus Sunday with an aromatherapy vaporizer nearby. She uses it to soothe her vocal cords. We're told she thinks she rolled over onto the machine's cord, which caused hot water to spill out on her right forearm. Tameka “Tiny” Harris is venturing into new territory with her latest business endeavor. On Thursday, the singer announced that she is the now the owner of the Atlanta Heirs, a gender-mixed basketball team. The newly formed team is a part of the Global Mixed Gender Basketball league. During a visit to Atlanta radio station V-103, original Xscape members Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle and Tamika Scott dropped the bombshell that fans have been waiting decades for…the group is officially reuniting with all four original members! Lead singer LaTocha Scott was out of town and couldn’t be present during the in-studio interview, but she joined in the announcement via phone. Delta pilots First Officer Dawn Cook and Capt. Stephanie Johnson ended Black History Month and brought in Women’s History Month on the right foot—or should we say the right flight—when they made history for Delta. The women became the first African-American women to make up the cockpit crew on one of Delta’s “mainline” flights. The special guest for the show was Rapper originally from Milwakee, WI - "Gee Wiiz." Check him out everywhere at @gee_wiiz and at www.geewiizdom.com.
