Do you use a secret ingredient in one of your meals to make it taste fantastic or to add nutrients? In today's episode I talk about one of my secret ingredients for my homemade tomato sauce. It is the one, the only...drumroll please....THE CARROT! I use carrots for 3 reasons: to reduce the acidity of the tomatoes to add a natural sweetness instead of using sugar to sneakily add extra veggies to my kids dietary repertoire Growing up with an Italian mother, purchasing jarred sauce was a BIG SIN in my family (LOL) so I have never done that. I have always made my own. If you would like my recipe, click here to see the video or if you don't like videos, I have posted it below. INGREDIENTS: Three 28oz cans Italian plum tomatoes Garlic, chopped (never let anyone tell you how much garlic to use...even me!) Two or three Tablespoons olive oil One small carrot, grated on a plane grater (not shredded, minced, chopped, sliced or diced. GRATED, I mean it!) Fresh basil, chopped, or about 2 teaspoons dried herbs of your choice Salt and pepper to taste METHOD: In a large pan on medium heat, saute garlic in olive oil just until fragrant (about 30 seconds) Pour in tomatoes with juice Add in grated carrot Add dried herbs if using (if using fresh basil, wait until the end) Stir and mash up tomatoes with masher or back of a fork (alternatively you can run them through the blender BEFORE cooking) Cover pot and bring to boil Bring heat to low, take the cover half off of the pot and let simmer about 30-40 minutes until the sauce thickens to your preference. Add fresh basil and serve Makes a healthy amount of sauce, but if it's too much, freeze it. Keeps in the freezer for 6 months. When ready, either thaw or pop it frozen in a covered pot on low heat. The only way we can be free, is to resolve to receive the grace given today. Do we allow the transgression of a minor sin in order to prevent a major one? The Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 254) brings the classic case. If a person puts dough in an oven on Shabbat, the Rabbis let him take it out before it bakes. There is a rabbinical prohibition of taking out bread from an oven on Shabbat, however we say that better he transgress a rabbinical law than a biblical one, of baking on Shabbat.Hacham Ovadia Yosef in Yabia Omer (Yoreh De’ah, Helek 6 ,Siman 3) brings a couple of cases where this dilemma arises.A nursing lady who is divorced or widowed is not allowed to get married until the baby is 24 months old. If a nursing lady wants to get married within these 2 years, and we know if we don’t let her she will live a promiscuous lifestyle; do we say, let her get married and push off this rabbinical law, in order to save her from living promiscuously?A lady who had Halisa (if a man dies without children, the widow is obligated to either marry the deceased’s brother, or perform the ritual of Halisa with him) done to her is not allowed to marry a Kohen. The case arose where such a lady threatened the Rabbis that if they don’t let her marry a Kohen she will convert to Christianity. Do we say she can marry the Kohen in order to stop her from converting?Biblically, a lady who is Nidda can go to the Mikveh on the 8th day of her impurity. The rabbis decreed that this is not allowed. A lady who says she will only go to the Mikveh on the 8th day, will we waive this rabbinical law in order that she will go to the Mikveh?A hotel requested kosher supervision on their food. This hotel however, gave customers upon request milk in their coffee after a meat meal. Do we say, give them the rabbinical supervision in order to prevent major Kashrut issues and overlook this disregard of the rabbinical law? It was prevalent in the Hi"da’s (Rabbi Haim Yosef David Azoulai, 1724-1806) time for people to shave with a razor. The rabbis were trying to solve this issue being that it is a sin from the Torah to shave with a razor. The people said that if the Rabbis allowed them to shave on the Omer, they would not shave with a razor anymore. The Hi"da questioned, do we say let them break this custom of shaving on the Omer in order that they stop transgressing a biblical law? Regarding this subject, each scenario must be analyzed and judged individually. Much caution and deliberation must be exercised while judging such cases being that the violation of Halacha is involved.

Took a virtual road trip to Seattle, Wa this week to chat with John Spinney of Monsterwatch. Big Sin has been one of my favorite songs for the longest time and Tuesday was the original intro jam of the show. So a bunch of connections with the band! It was cool to hear John talk about the transition in sound the band has seen for the upcoming album that will be released at the beginning of next year. They are taking on a new wave punk sound which is different from the in your face punk from the original EP. We also discussed growing up in New Hampshire, giving up guitar at an early age and then picking it up again later in life, living out of a van when he first relocated to Seattle, and life on the road. Kelly is currently sitting behind bars, Lifetime is continuing to build on their “Surviving R. Kelly” series with a follow-up called “Surviving R. Kelly: The Aftermath.” The new special will consist of four parts and will feature interviews from new survivors, psychologists, and experts on the Kelly case. He's another one that exemplifies that nothing comes easy. Expecially, when your constantantly doing wrong. On a positive note, the Lion King brought in $531M globally making it the #1 movie in the world!! As it stands, the movie has hit the half billion benchmark in about 10 days (opening early in China) and is on track to bring in $1B worldwide before next weekend. The orginal was still the most iconic though but great job nontheless! FINALLY...Harriet Tubman, America's heroic abolitionist, gets her own biopic. Harriet Tubman may not have her face on a $20 bill YET, but plans for a biopic in her name are becoming a reality. Tubman's own escape from slavery led her to help hundreds of slaves find freedom during the US Civil War era through the Underground Railroad, changing the course of American history. The word, 'Hold Down' can mean a variety of different things. This holds true within some of the trending topics the crew talked about. As always, Apple never fails with holding the world down with their innovation! The tech giant on Monday announced a press event on March 25 where it is widely expected to unveil its TV streaming services that will offer iPhone and iPad owners access to free original shows along with other streaming services, estimating 100 million users in just three years. Likewise...just from a humanistic standpoint, Kim Kardashian holds down 5 years rent for freed man who was denied housing. Matthew Charles was granted early release by mistake in 2016, after serving 21 years of a 35-year sentence for non-violent drug and weapons charges and was forced to return to prison last May to finish his sentence. However, on January 3, Charles became one of the first people to benefit from the First Step Act, a bill supported by Van Jones’ REFORM Alliance that aims to reduce non-violent prison sentences. BIG props to Kim K.! You want to talk about holding it down! Deborah Brown, a Richmond, Va. resident won the state’s lottery 30 times in one day in February—ensuring that this year’s Black History Month was really great for at least one person. She bought 30 “Pick 4" tickets with the same winning combination: 1-0-3-1. Brown initially bought 20 tickets with that combination at a gas station in Chesterfield County. So later that day, she bought 10 more tickets at the same location with the same numbers. Good luck to her...like she really needs it at this point. This was not the way to hold things down! A white fifth-grade social studies teacher at Chapel School in Bronxville, N.Y., reportedly organized a mock slave auction where the teacher took the black students into the hall, put “imaginary chains” on their necks and wrists and shackled their ankles before parading them in front of their white classmates who posed as wealthy slave owners playing the original version of The Price Is Right’s showcase showdown. Rapper, Meek Mill has reportedly filed a police report with authorities after a vandal spray painted his grandmother’s house with racist graffiti. The Championships mastermind revealed the news via Twitter: “A white man sprayed a racial remarks on my Grandmom’s house last night in south philly referencing white privileged,” he wrote. “the crazy part is this was a all black neighborhood 20 years ago. It was gentrified and now this! Just don’t let us catch you coward!” “The funny part is we just bought this house,” he wrote. “After its remodeled more blacks coming soon!” This stuff has to STOP! Alfonso Ribeiro is suing "Fortnite" & "NBA 2K" creators for jacking, The Carlton Dance. In legal docs obtained by TMZ, Ribeiroalleges Fortnite’s “Fresh emote” dance — which debuted in January 2018 — is identical to the dance he came up with for the ’90s sitcom. He’s currently in the process of copyrighting the move. Earlier this month, rapper 2 Milly made similar claims against Epic Games for using his Milly Rock moves. The Beatles previously set the record with 11 Top 10ers in 1964. Drake (32) is now third on the all-time list of most Top 10 singles behind The Beatles (34) and Madonna (38). Once again Drizzy proves that he's the king of this game! In related news, Pusha T threatens to release audio of Drake's team offering $100,000 for info about his parents and new born child. On "The Shop", Drake insisted Pusha T talking about his mother, father, and newborn child on "The Story of Adidon" didn't really bother him. It was the lines about his producer and longtime friend Noah "40" Shebib that seemed to upset him the most. Back in May, the G.O.O.D Music president tweeted that Drake's team was offering $100,000 for dirt on him. This is getting to be GOOD, lol! Bardi’s baaaaack! Infinite arrived way back in 1996, and Marshall Mather's discography added another nine studio LPs over the next 22 years. While 2017's Revival saw a significant slip in opening week sales (267,000 album-equivalent units), the Detroit spitter bounced back with Kamikaze (434,000 units). That was thanks, in part, to a huge number of streams. According to Billboard, Kamikaze collected 225.5 million first-week audio streams, the highest of Em's career. Revival compiled only 82.5 million streams last December. A biopic of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard is in the works at Sony’s Columbia Pictures. RZA, who is one of the hip-hop collective’s founding members, is slated to produce the film. Aside from being group members, RZA and ODB are cousins. Here for an ODB movie?? Legend won an Emmy at the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (September 9). Butler has been in talks with New York rap icons Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J to represent the New American Party and run for the state’s governor’s office. However, neither rapper has committed for the campaign run, nor have commented at press time about doing so...interesting? Aretha Franklin is in hospice care at her home, a source close to the 76-year-old singer told CNN's Don Lemon. In other 'Black Excellence' news, Black Panther’ becomes just the 3rd movie to make $700M in the US. alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($760.5 million) and Avatar ($936.7 million). This comes after Black Panther initially made the list of highest-grossing domestic films of all-time after reaching the $652.5 million and surpassing Jurassic World. Pushing boundaries in a not so positive light, over three dozen people were shot in the streets of Chicago this past weekend, from midnight on Saturday(August 4) to early Sunday morning. Four deaths were reported in the 40 shootings, according to Chicago Police. We must all together create a vehicle to stop this insanity!! We had some crazy situations that happened this week! Does Pusha T moonlight as a private investigator? Because that would explain a whole lot about "The Story of Adidon" a brutal dis track he released Tuesday night that escalated his years-long (and recently reignited) beef with Drake. On Friday, Pusha released his well-received, Kanye West-produced album “Daytona,” which notably uses an image of Whitney Houston’s drug-filled bathroom as cover art. The album’s last track, “Infrared,” revived the ghostwriting theory in the opening verse: “The lyric pennin’ equal the Trumps winnin’ / The bigger question is how the Russians did it / It was written like Nas, but it came from Quentin,” referring to rapper Quentin Miller. Basically, Pusha alleges Russians helped President Trump win the election just like ghostwriters supposedly helped Drake throughout his career. This situation seems like it's not going to stop anytime soon! We did discuss some other things though, lol. FOR EXAMPLE...Roseanne! Hours after essential calling former President Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett an ape, the network had finally seen and heard enough. ABC got Roseanne Barr’s racist ass out the paint! Our good friend Kanye, Yeezy, Donald Trump's boy...whatever you choose to call him has been everywhere in this weeks news! So, it's only right that we highlight his shenanigans. Kanye West has become a wet dream for the Alt-Right, as he has stepped into new territory expressing a variety of counterproductive notions for the vast majority of Black people. From a bromance with Donald Trump to a MAGA hate, he has unloaded a variety of notions under the guise of "free thought." Now, the Chicago rapper has offered his commentary on slavery, the institution that murdered, enslaved and terrorized Black people in America for over 400 years. West said, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You was there for 400 years, and it is all of y’all?” West came to the offices of TMZ with his new friend Candace Owens, the polarizing Black conservative talking head. WOW! In lieu of this, Kanye made some 'hasty' comments in reference to himself vs. iconic westcost "Crip" gang affiliate, Snoop Dogg. Now THE STREETS have put a hit out on Kanye for his actions. Popular CRIP and Snoop's cousin and Dogg Pound member, Daz Dilinger sent out the message yesterday posting, "All the Crips out there, y'all f*** Kanye up. You see that motherf*****, f*** his ass up on G.' Kanye now hired "bodyguards" to protect him from the CRIPS. Kanye has recently filed a restraining order again Daz. THE PLOT THICKENS! In more light-hearted news, Facebook is launching a new dating app on the social media platform, unveiling a feature designed to compete with popular services like Tinder. “This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships — not just hookups,” he added, which sounded like a dig at Tinder, Facebook’s big competition in this area.
