    The Grim Reaper: Funeral and Mourning Customs in the 19th Century Recorded live on 3/20/2025 5:30pm in Ballroom E Our spectacular hosts are Madame Perry, Tracy Chan, and Beverly Stuart. Our panel will take a deep dive into all the things you ever wanted to know about death in Victorian times but were afraid to ask! Death was considered an ordinary part of life back in the day. Most people died at home and were buried fairly quickly and close by. Preserving the body became popular during the Civil War with the development of embalming. Mourning customs were very specific – what you could wear, and for how long, and for whom (parents, spouses, children all had different mourning periods). Photographing the departed was also commonly done. Though The Sidle has a reputation for safety due to its new electric streetlights, something sinister is lurking just beyond the glow. Candela Obscura dispatches the investigators to uncover the source of these disappearances before more citizens are lost.     Join the Arizona Browncoats as they take a look at the cultural importance of the Space Western genre, exploring where it came from, how it has affected modern media, and where we see the genre going in the future. (James Springer) as we take Old West and Sci Fi!   The Arizona Browncoats, legally Arizona Browncoats, Inc, are a fan-club and cosplay organization that has grown into a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. Brought together by our love of the television show Firefly, we aim to do good works in our local community and throughout the ‘Verse, partnering with charities and local businesses to host fundraisers and other events while making friends along the way. ​Originally the name given to soldiers who fought against the Alliance in the Unification War, the term Browncoat is now used to describe Firefly fans around the world. The Arizona Browncoats host events, often called shindigs, that are typically family-friendly occasions where fans of the show and like-minded folk get together to socialize with one another. We came together through a mixture of online and in-person interactions. Our group started off with four nerds that came together weekly to play various TTRPGs. We went through several systems and campaigns: heroic conquests, humiliating TPKs, and a smattering of laughter. Eventually, we decided to start our own TTRPG with all the things we loved. October 2022, we started developing Crest Saga.    Our group grew and so did our imaginations. We wanted a system that shook off the chains of classes and added mechanical freedom to character creation. We wanted simplified rolling but enough crunch to satiate the munchkins in us. We wanted room for Roleplaying as well as epic combats. We created a world of fantasy with a system to support any world we could imagine. We took all the things we loved and shaped them into Crest Saga. We have put our heart and soul into this game. We hope that our system can help support your own epic Sagas. Roleplaying games are special since to be in a world of make-believe, you invest a part of yourself. You explore different sides of the human experience with friends, or strangers; online or in-person. We wanted to make a system to light the imagination but most importantly, bring friends together.
