when a group of friends come together over cheese and wine in front of an open log fire and conversations start to flow.... We explore friendship in our 50's and 60's, how they, we have evolved and what we would tell our 25 year old selves. It's amazing how a group of diverse women can come together with commonality, shared self doubts and on some occasions self loathing, but allow themselves to be lifted by their friends. Recorded ahead of IWD 2025, bonds of friendship seem even more important these days. thanks to Jo, Angie, Sher & Hels for indulging me with raw honesty and vulnerability. I adore you all x

In this episode of Look West, we sat down with the Chair of the Legislative Women's Caucus, Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, at the Women Inspire exhibit in the California Museum in Sacramento. She talked with us about the impact near gender parity is having the legislature, the power of the Women's Caucus and what her favorite thing is about having more women in office.

“Wired for Good: The Intersection of Neuroscience, Connection, and Success”
“You don't know what you're doing, you're basically recreating your life, and there's no map for it. I just went through the motions for a long time, I was just a shell of who I once was, but by talking about my experience I realised I could help other people and I began to share my story in front of audiences.” Power, control, empowerment. Rebirth, trauma, healing, and even forgiveness and on finding the places, the spaces to talk about hard things, in life changing communication and accountability terms with our fellow human beings. As spring once more approaches during March is Women's History Month, with March 8th being known as International Women's Day, it's time for another one of sister/co-host Kerry's annual IWD featured spotlights on a woman she knows who is doing important work in intersectionality and gender equity spaces. This guest can be an ally, but does not necessarily need to be blind or even disabled, but rather a woman that's making an effort to foster human connection…with conviction for a more equitable world, as it meets the themes of diversity, intersectionality, and interdependence that make up the crux of this show.. This week on Outlook for International Women's Day 2025, the guest is Jane Piper, (performer, artist, and restorative justice lived experience advocate) local and live in studio. Kerry and Jane look back on how they met in the autumn of 2018, how they very nearly attended a Bernie Sanders rally together, and Piper shares more about what sharing her own story means and does for her each time she tells it. She shares openly about the brutal attack she faced in 2003 and about how she handled the trauma and life afterward, leading her to take on surrigate victim/offender dialogue. Piper runs storytelling workshops with both women in abuse shelters and with the men who've been incarcerated for violent acts against women and she talks to Kerry about cultivating empathy for others, even those who have committed unspeakable acts, and on what it means to offer/find forgiveness in a world more divided than is good for any of us. Women's History Month/International Women's Day this year's theme is “The Strength In Every Story” and Jane Piper has both worked to facilitate that in others (like she did when Kerry took her storytelling workshop locally in London) alongside showcasing the same in her sharing of her own, in the work Jane's done on herself and with/for others such as her work with abused women (as a peer support worker) and inside correctional facilities doing accountability workshops with men imprisoned for violent crimes against women. Jane shares with us what it was like the first time she stepped foot into just such a facility for one of these accountability workshops, what restorative justice has meant in her life, and what it's like working with these offenders. To find out more about the public speaking she does, as she's progressing on the book she's written (Coming Out of The Fog) about her rape survivor experience, check out her website here in the meantime: http://janepiper.com
This week, a special Project Censored episode: “What To Us Is International Women's Day?,” a variation on the question asked by Frederick Douglass: What to the Slave is the 4th of July? March 8th is International Women's Day, and while many will and do celebrate this day in revolutionary ways, the truth is that IWD, like so many other holidays, is often used to serve the vehemently anti-feminist goals of the architects of our oppression. So-called white feminism perpetuates the evils of white supremacy, colonialism, capitalism, patriarchy, and imperialism — but with a femme facade, pushing us to ask what to us is an international women's day which doesn't seek to dismantle the very systems that use, abuse and torment women across the U.S. and the globe? Award-winning journalist Mnar Adley and organizer Afeni Evans will join Eleanor Goldfield for this special hour-long dive into the insidious machinations of white feminism, who gets violently othered and why, the internationalist demands of a revolutionary feminism, and what really to us, is — or could be — International Women's Day? International Women's Day (IWD) is a global event aiming to recognise women's achievements, raise awareness about gender equality and promote women's empowerment. It serves as a crucial platform for activism, highlighting enduring gender disparities and advocating for equality. In what is now a tradition at Cxociety, we begin this year's series with a dialogue with Wendy Lee, senior director at SS&C Blue Prism to get her perspective on women participation in the technology sector in Asia and how the IWD's 2025 theme of "Accelerate Action" addresses the challenges and opportunities for women in Asia's burgeoning tech space.1. Professionally, you've been in the technology sector for much of your career. Is this an active decision on your part?2. You have been in tech marketing for some time now, can you share some interesting lessons in your journey?3. In the context of women as active participants and leaders in Asia's technology sector, how would you describe the progress so far?4. What are some effective ways for women in tech to network and build professional relationships that can help them access leadership roles in the industry?5. What is your view on mentorship? What has worked and needs more work in this area?6. What role do initiatives like the SG100 Women in Tech play in inspiring and empowering women to pursue careers in technology, and how can similar programs be replicated across Asia?7. Aspirations aside, what are the key challenges women face when leading marketing efforts for global tech/AI firms in Asia, and how can they overcome these obstacles to achieve success?8. IWD's 2025 theme of "Accelerate Action" is a call to action to accelerate participation by women in leading the charge. What is your advice for women who want to pursue a career in tech?

Why I am talking more about men for this years International Women's Day. In all transparency, last IWD I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of celebrating another day filled with purple balloons, cupcakes and being told to hug ourselves. The whole thing was starting to make me cringe. How will all this smash the patriarchy? Now this sounds crazy to you and me both because I know how important days like this are for raising awareness - thats the whole point of awareness days / weeks / months, but that's just the thing - has it lost it's way? For me its about reminding everyone why it's still important to work on gender equity because we are still not there yet and the recent and some that seem neverending events around the world where by women and children are the ones really feeling the dire and often demoralising consequences are enough to make anyone think why bother? However this is exactly why we need to. The time is NOW. There's a lot of despair in the world right now around women's rights and gender equity. I cannot believe what I am seeing.I feel like we are going backwards; although maybe this is what others want us to believe; in fact maybe it's just the opposite. This concerning pushback threatens bodily autonomy, sees increasing gender-based violence, and systemic barriers that hold women and marginalised communities back. So this moment is not just about defending progress; it's about driving change forward. And as change gains momentum so does pushback. And in Florence's words "It's always darkest before the dawn". And this is why I see the huge and powerful place for male allyship now more than ever. Those men that get it. Those men that can see the harmful impact that lack of inclusivity and equity has for women in the world. I have started sharing male allies when I see them over on my insta stories @nomorehiningco and saving them in a highlight in case you ever need a reminder that they are out there. Because that's the thing - No More Hiding isn't just about women being more visible, it's about everyone being more visible for the things that matter - speaking out and sharing their lived experiences and ideas about how we can be more inclusive and hear more perspectives around those decision making tables. Thats how we make a difference and thats how change happens So in this series we explore the crucial role male allies play in creating more equitable workplaces. We'll dive into why male allyship is essential—not just for women's career progression, but for building healthier, more successful organizations overall. When we talk about workplace gender equality, the focus often falls on policies and initiatives. But true change doesn't happen without action—and that's where male allies come in. In this series, we'll unpack what real allyship looks like, why it's not enough to just “support” women behind the scenes, and how visibility and advocacy from men can make all the difference. Throughout the series, we'll be joined by industry leaders, workplace culture experts, and professionals who have firsthand experience with allyship in action. We'll explore the challenges, the impact, and the simple yet powerful ways men can step up in their workplaces. From amplifying women's voices in meetings to actively advocating for equal opportunities, we'll break down what meaningful allyship looks like—and why it benefits everyone. I saw a quote that struck a chord with me from Lilly tomlin and she said “ I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that..theh I realised I was somebody” So, if you're ready to learn, challenge assumptions, and take action, you're in the right place. -------------- Book a chat with Gemma - This is the place to book a call to see how Gemma can help you or your company support female leaders to raise their profile, increase performance and visibility and build more allies. There's this story about a donkey that fell into a ditch. The owners decided that it was more convenient to bury it than to try and rescue it. So out with their shovels they came. Each would dig up a shovel full of dirt and pour this into the ditch where the donkey lay. Unbeknownst to them, the donkey at the bottom of the ditch was shaking off the dirt being piled on it and stepping on this. On went this activity until the donkey got to the surface and simply walked away, free from what was once a ditch that trapped it. What's my point? Sometimes you may feel like you're in a ditch and the people you expected to help get you out are instead pouring on dirt to bury you. You're not alone (I feel that way sometimes too). You always have a choice, even in the gravest situations. It's not about what happens to you, it's what afterwards you choose to do. So, just shake off the dirt, the limitations, the ...(fill in the blank gaps), step on it and rise higher. You've got this!

Happy International Women's Day!This International Women's Day 2025, we're putting women's contraceptive health in the spotlight. We discuss the history of contraception in Ireland and the success of the recent Free Contraception Scheme. Unfortunately women still face barriers in accessing healthcare. The theme for IWD 2025 is #AccelerateAction, a reminder we need to continue pushing for better healthcare and awareness of women's health.
In this episode of Five Minute Friday, aired ahead of International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, we explore the urgent need to close the gender gap in healthcare, aligning with the IWD theme “Accelerate Action.” The podcast delves into how biomedical research has historically favored male subjects, leaving women's health—particularly conditions like heart disease and Alzheimer's—understudied and underserved. It highlights the necessity for increased funding, policy changes, and targeted studies to improve women's health outcomes, especially in aging, while emphasizing the broader economic and social benefits of such action. With compelling evidence, the episode calls on listeners to push for systemic change, making women's health a priority and turning the IWD theme into a tangible reality.
This International Women's Day (IWD), our hosts, London partner Lucy Winnington-Ingram and ArbitralWomen president Rebeca Mosquera, are joined by Ayse Yazir, Managing Director of Bench Walk Advisors, Alison Macdonald KC of Essex Court Chambers, Natalia Mori, an attorney based in Lima, and Ana Irene Delgado, Panamanian lawyer, diplomat, and politician, to discuss what the IWD theme of “accelerate action” means to them.

Is this the best debut EP of the year already? Hear the gritty rock band before everyone else get's their hands on them.
The year was 2012. A young Benita Kolovos arrives at her high school literature class to find a print-out on her desk. It's the Julia Gillard misogyny speech. When it comes to riveting moments in Australian media, Gillard's speech has few peers. It was raw, honest, and reached millions of Australian women who were fed up with double standards in the workplace, and in life. But one speech can't fix everything. Year after year, when International Women's Day rolls around, we have a special opportunity to reflect on where we are and how far we've come in the last twelve months.Inspired by the power of Gillard's speech, Benita pursued politics in journalism. At the same time, Maddy Harradence, a Registered Nurse, started a long meaningful career in her union, and Rebecca Thistleton forged a path in policy and media. These three visionary women come together for our annual 2025 IWD episode for a wide ranging conversation on politics, health, media, and sport. Salary negotiation should be taught in school Jac & Ral reckon. Both have had long careers in corporate as well as working for themselves, so negotiating salaries and incomes are something they have a bit of experience in. In this episode they share stories about what they did well and what they did wrong when it comes to seeking out higher salaries with their employers. Things like: What is it I want and why do I deserve it? Know your value Do your research when it comes to the salary range/benchmarking Think about the mutual value exchange for both parties (ditch the winner and the loser mentality) Know when to walk away Move with strategy not emotion!
