Le président américain Donald Trump fait tout pour tenir ses promesses de campagne, parfois à marche forcée. Notamment pour mettre en œuvre “la plus grande expulsion de migrants de l'histoire des Etats-Unis”, une des premières sur sa liste. Ou encore pour démanteler ce qu'il appelle “l'Etat profond”, ou pour viser les campus universitaires jugés antisémites ou pas assez “patriotiques”. Face à ce programme, seuls les juges semblent aujourd'hui poser des limites au président républicain et à son administration. Mais le gouvernement et le président, lui-même visé dans de multiples affaires judiciaires par le passé, n'hésitent pas à critiquer ouvertement les magistrats, voire à contourner leurs décisions. Selon les spécialistes, l'issue de ce bras de fer sera cruciale pour la démocratie américaine. Quelle sera la position des juges de la Cour suprême. La cour est composée de juges en majorité conservateurs, mais rien ne dit qu'ils ne chercheront pas à défendre la Constitution.
