30 Jesus therefore, when he had taken the vinegar, said: It is consummated. And bowing his head, he gave up the ghost.Cum ergo accepisset Jesus acetum, dixit : Consummatum est. Et inclinato capite tradidit spiritum. 31 Then the Jews, (because it was the parasceve,) that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath day, (for that was a great sabbath day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.Judaei ergo ( quoniam parasceve erat) ut non remanerent in cruce corpora sabbato ( erat enim magnus dies ille sabbati), rogaverunt Pilatum ut frangerentur eorum crura, et tollerentur. 32 The soldiers therefore came; and they broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him.Venerunt ergo milites : et primi quidem fregerunt crura, et alterius, qui crucifixus est cum eo. 33 But after they were come to Jesus, when they saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.Ad Jesum autem cum venissent, ut viderunt eum jam mortuum, non fregerunt ejus crura, 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear opened his side, and immediately there came out blood and water.sed unus militum lancea latus ejus aperuit, et continuo exivit sanguis et aqua. 35 And he that saw it, hath given testimony, and his testimony is true. And he knoweth that he saith true; that you also may believe.Et qui vidit, testimonium perhibuit : et verum est testimonium ejus. Et ille scit quia vera dicit : ut et vos credatis. This Precious Blood was shed in the Circumcision, the Agony, the Scourging, the Crowning with thorns and supremely in the Crucifixion of our Saviour, and It is offered daily in the Sacrafice of the Altar.
We delve into the concept of the "Circumcision of the Heart" as described by Moses in the Book of Deuteronomy. In the conclusion of his speech to the people, Moses outlines the severe consequences of disobedience, including exile and suffering, but also offers hope for future restoration if the people return to God wholeheartedly. Through stark warnings, Moses illustrates the blessings of obedience and the curses of disobedience.Support the showRead along with us in the Bible Brief App! Intro: Paul was the author, He was in prison at the time. Letter is named for the city of Colosse, which was populated by Gentiles (any one other than Jews) and Jews. Paul wrote this letter because Heresy or beliefs contrary to the Bible plagued the church. The Church had Elements of Jewish Legalism and Pagan mysticism that later became known as Gnosticism. Mysticism is popularly known as becoming one with God or the Absolute, but may refer to any kind of ecstasy or altered state of consciousness which is given a religious or spiritual meaning. It may also refer to the attainment of insight in ultimate or hidden truths, and to human transformation supported by various practices and experiences The Gnostics believed that God is good and matter is evil Self denial and neglect of the body were part of the beliefs Jesus came out of God so He was less than God This led them to deny His true humanity They believed that a secret higher knowledge of scripture was necessary for knowledge of GOD & salvation Jewish legalists Believed that Circumcision was necessary for salvation Had to observe OT rituals such as dietary, laws festivals, and Sabbaths Also were into Rigid Asceticism or self denial The Colossian heresy also called for the worship of angels and mysticism which is a belief that through deep thinking about God one can achieve a direct and immediate awareness of God or divine truth without the use of reason or any ordinary senses. This “wisdom” would release them from earthly things and put them in touch with heavenly things. All of this teaching was but man-made philosophy based on traditions and not on divine truth (Col. 2:8). It grew out of the philosophical question, Why is there evil in this world if creation was made by a holy God?[1] These false teachers tried to change people from the outside, by means of diets and disciplines. But true spiritual growth comes from within.[1] Since to them matter was evil, they had to find some way to control their own human natures in this pursuit of perfection. Two different practices resulted. One school of thought held that the only way to conquer evil matter was by means of rigid discipline and asceticism (Col. 2:23). The other view taught that it was permissible to engage in all kinds of sin, since matter was evil anyway! It appears that the first opinion was the predominant one in Colossae.[1] PURPOSE Three purposes emerge from the contents of this epistle. Paul wanted to express his personal interest in this church, which he had evidently not visited. He wrote to warn the Colossians, first, of the danger of returning to their former beliefs and practices. Secondly, he also disproved the false teaching that was threatening this congregation. The outstanding Christian doctrine that this letter deals with is Christology. Thirdly, Paul's great purpose was to set forth the absolute supremacy and sole sufficiency of Jesus Christ. "The church today desperately needs the message of Colossians. We live in a day when religious toleration is interpreted to mean 'one religion is just as good as another.' Some people try to take the best from various religious systems and manufacture their own private religion. To many people, Jesus Christ is only one of several great religious teachers, with no more authority than they. He may be prominent, but He is definitely not preeminent. "This is an age of 'syncretism.' People are trying to harmonize and unite many different schools of thought and come up with a superior religion. Our evangelical churches are in danger of diluting the faith in their loving attempt to understand the beliefs of others. Mysticism, legalism, Eastern religions, self-denial, and man-made philosophies are secretly creeping into churches. They are not denying Christ, but they are dethroning Him and robbing Him of His rightful place of preeminence." MESSAGE The whole message of this epistle is in 2:9-10a.: "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete." The two statements in this sentence are the great revelations of the Colossian letter. The central doctrine in Colossians is Christology. Kenneth Hanna titled the first two chapters "the preeminence of Christ," and the second two "the preeminence of Christ in life." Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? He can Save you if You ask Him based on His death, burial, and resurrection for your sins. Believe in Him for forgiveness of your sins today. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” -John 8:32 Our mission is to spread the gospel and to go to the least of these with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ; We reach out to those the World has forgotten. hisloveministries.podbean.com #HLMSocial hisloveministries.net https://www.instagram.com/hisloveministries1/?hl=en His Love Ministries on Itunes Don't go for all the gusto you can get, go for all the God (Jesus Christ) you can get. Q: My question is from Romans 4:10-12. If Abraham's righteousness was based on faith and not circumcision, how might women in Abraham's time have expressed their covenant relationship with God, given they did not receive circumcision? Summary: In this episode Dr. E and Hanna respond to a listener's insightful question from Romans 4:10–12: If Abraham was credited as righteous by faith before he was circumcised, how did women—who were never circumcised—participate in the Abrahamic covenant? Dr. E explains that Abraham's righteousness came through faith in Genesis 15:6, and circumcision came later as a sign and seal of that faith. Though only males received the physical mark of circumcision, Dr. E emphasizes that women absolutely participated in the covenant. Like uncircumcised Gentiles who believed, women were counted righteous by faith in Yahweh. The sign of circumcision was given to men as a symbol of being set apart and because the covenant seed passed through the male line. But the covenant itself—and its blessings—extended to all who believed, regardless of gender. Women participated fully in the Abrahamic covenant by their belief in the promises of God. Their faith, not ritual, was what God honored. This reinforces a key biblical truth: righteousness and covenant inclusion have always been by faith. Abraham's story serves as a timeless reminder that it is belief in God—not outward signs—that defines belonging in His family. Takeaways: Abraham was declared righteous by faith before he was ever circumcised. Circumcision was a sign of the covenant, not the source of righteousness. Women participated in the covenant by faith, just like uncircumcised Gentiles. The physical sign was given to men because the seed of the covenant passed through them. Inclusion in God's promises has always been by belief, not by physical rituals. Romans 4 affirms that faith is the defining mark of God's people—then and now. Find more episodes of Ask Dr. E here. The Jews considered their forefather Abraham to be a paragon of virtue, a man with whom no fault could be found. Paul refutes this idea, saying that Abraham, like all other men, was a sinner saved by grace. It is not Abraham's works that justify him before a holy God, but his faith, for as it says in Scripture, “Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.” In other words, if God serves an accountant, then his books would wipe clean the debt that was owed and his account would credited with a foreign righteousness, that is, the righteousness of Christ. Circumcision does not justify him, because he was credited while still uncircumcised. Paul makes the case that this makes him the father of both circumcised (that is, Israel) and the uncircumcised (that is the Gentile) who have faith in Christ. :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) was long considered not to be a sexually transmitted infection (STI), and treatment was only for women to bear. That was the convention at least until Catriona Bradshaw and her team at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre published their groundbreaking clinical trial results earlier this year, demonstrating that treating male partners of women with BV prevented recurrence in those women. In this episode of Communicable, hosts Angela Huttner and Annie Joseph welcome back Bradshaw to discuss her trial's design, results, and clinical implications—with some guidelines already updated to include male partners in BV treatment regimens. The conversation also explores the complexities of BV diagnosis, the challenges of trial execution in general, and future research directions. This episode was edited by Kathryn Hostettler and peer reviewed by Arjana Zerja (Mother Theresa University Hospital Centre, Tirana, Albania)ReferencesVodstricil LA, et al. What would you say if I told you the reason we circumcise our boys is not about preventing UTIs - - - but to prevent masturbation? I know. WHAT?! It's historically accurate that the circumcision movement in the U.S. was aggressively promoted in the late 1800s by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg—yes, the cereal guy —to curb masturbation. Kellogg believed that removing the foreskin - which contains over 20,000 specialized nerve endings - to permanently expose the glans, which then becomes scarred, calloused, and desensitized, would reduce sexual pleasure and therefore discourage what he saw as immoral behavior. They're literally cutting off what many consider the male equivalent of "the G-Spot." Yes - it's uncomfortable to talk about the sexual implications of a procedure performed on infants, but every adult male was once an infant - and it gets deeply personal for adult men when they learn what they lost without consent because their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were lied to. This episode is personal for me. In 2008, I blindly handed over my newborn son for this "routine" procedure. Saying that now saddens my soul. I grew up in the Midwest. Circumcision is "normal." It's heart-wrenching to know THAT'S IT - cosmetic normalcy and smoke-and-mirror, for-profit, pseudo"science." That's why we do it - a cultural blind spot. The AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS even SAYS there's NO SUBSTANTIAL HEALTH BENEFIT. I heard my brand new baby boy's torturous screams as they performed - without anesthesia - this truly barbaric procedure billed to insurance as “circumcision.” It changed me. This became a truth I had to tell. My guest is Eric Clopper, an attorney and former employee of Harvard University. Eric gained international attention with his viral lecture, "Sex & Circumcision: An American Love Story," performed at Harvard in 2018. It cost him his job, but created a platform to expose the cultural, religious, and medical forces keeping parents in the dark. Through his legal practice, The Clopper Law Firm, P.C., and as the founding president of Intact Global, Eric challenges the constitutionality of laws permitting male genital cutting while prohibiting female genital mutilation, arguing that such laws violate the Equal Protection Clause. Who is getting circumsized, who's feet (ha!) are being touched, and who is Zipporah's Bridgegroom of Blood? What does it mean for God to hear us? And where does God's penis enter the story? Find out at least nine different interpretations of these questions and more on the third episode of our second season of The Word in Black and Red.
Big Idea: Growing your relationship with Jesus will also grow every other relationship. - Part 21 Corinthians 7:10-241. Marriage is a covenant from God.1 Corinthians 7:10-13To the married I give this command-not I, but the Lord-a wife is not to leave her husband. But if she does leave, she must remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband-and a husband is not to divorce his wife. But I (not the Lord) say to the rest: If any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. Also, if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce her husband.2. It reflects Christ and the Church. 1 Corinthians 7:14-16For the unbelieving husband is made holy by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy by the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace. Wife, for all you know, you might save your husband. Husband, for all you know, you might save your wife.3. Live for God where you are right now. 1 Corinthians 7:17-20Let each one live his life in the situation the Lord assigned when God called him. This is what I command in all the churches. Was anyone already circumcised when he was called? He should not undo his circumcision. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised. Circumcision does not matter and uncircumcision does not matter. Keeping God's commands is what matters. Let each of you remain in the situation in which he was called.4. Allow God into your situation1 Corinthians 7:21-24Were you called while a slave? Don't let it concern you. But if you can become free, by all means take the opportunity. For he who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord's freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ's slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of people. Brothers and sisters, each person is to remain with God in the situation in which he was called.Next Steps: Believe: I need God to restore my relationship this week.Become: I will seek God in my relationship today. Be Sent: I will set the example as a spouse, single, divorced, or widowed this week. Discussion Questions:1. Do you feel God intends for everyone or most people to get married? Why or why not?2. How would you deal with being in an unequally yoked marriage?3. What are your thoughts on divorce?4. In what ways can believers direct their current marital or single life for the glory of God?5. Do you judge people who are single between 25-50, and wonder why they haven't gotten married and have kids?6. How does Paul's teaching on marriage challenge or affirm your personal views?7. How can the church better support both single and married individuals?8. Pray for people in whatever status (married or single) they are in this week.
In this week's episode of *ooohtheyfunny*, the crew dives into the chaos of everyday life with a hilarious and unfiltered look at the *unwritten rules of public spaces*—from speakerphone convos in quiet places to folks treating public bathrooms like personal lounges. Then they debate whether *struggle is really necessary for success*, asking if grinding hard is essential or just a romanticized part of the hustle culture. The conversation takes a sharp (and funny) turn with *circumcision*, questioning why Americans treat foreskin like a foreign concept while the rest of the world keeps it moving. And finally, they get into their feelings about *Disney's endless remakes*, wondering if the magic's gone, or if fans are just tired of seeing classics rewritten beyond recognition. As always, it's brutally honest, thought-provoking, and stupidly funny.
This sermon focuses on Colossians 2:4-15, emphasizing that Christ is sufficient and believers should reject counterfeit faith. The pastor discusses how Paul warns against deceptive arguments and philosophies that sound reasonable but don't align with God's Word. He emphasizes that while philosophy can be a useful tool for Christians, it must work alongside theology and ultimately submit to biblical truth. What does it mean that 'Christ is sufficient'? How does this truth impact your daily life? How can we distinguish between sound biblical teaching and deceptive arguments that 'sound reasonable'?The pastor mentioned that faith begins where logic ends. How do you reconcile faith and reason in your own spiritual journey? What role should philosophy play in a Christian's understanding of their faith? How does understanding that Jesus was 100% God and 100% man (rather than half and half) affect your view of Him?What does it mean that God 'erased our certificate of debt'? How should this impact how we view our past? How can we combat feelings of shame when we know God has forgiven us?What practical steps can we take to 'continue moving forward' in our faith rather than becoming stagnant?Support the show
In Philippians 3:1-3, Paul continues his message about unity and humility in Christ while warning believers to “watch out” for those who would add requirements to salvation. Paul will speak about the issue of circumcision to address deeper questions of identity and belonging in God's family. Paul says that there are schemes from people that want to detract us from the work of the Gospel. These people are described as: • Dogs – This would refer to those of impure mind • Evildoers – This refers to workers of evil or those who labor for that purpose. • Mutilators of the flesh – These are people that Paul has talked about who push law and not grace as the prerequisite for being in God's family. Andrew Schulz jokes about circumcision in his Netflix special, "Andrew Schulz".
Some people think that grace and faith and forgiveness isn't enough. Paul warns about rebuilding the old laws and putting limitations on receiving these gifts. These "sacred cows" are a waste when we're looking for freedom. Hope you enjoy the latest edition of the Galatians series. Welcome back! Today Sean McCann from the Wake The Dead podcast joins us to discuss a very important topic! We have covered this once before, but it's definitely due for a refresher. This is very sensitive content and listener discretion is advised. Circumcision is a form of ritual abuse and it needs to stop. Fr. Mike explains the meaning of circumcision for Israel's relationship with God. He also underscore the gravity of Achan's sin, and how the Valley of Achor symbolizes shame that is painful but not hopeless. Today we read Joshua 5-7 and Psalm 125.
