Absence of belief in the existence of deities
Have you noticed that atheism is on the rise? Why? The answer can be found in the promise prophets and messengers made to God. Learn the details and much more in this week's Quran Tafsir of Ayat 81 of Surah Al-Imran.

The comedian Steve Martin has said: "Atheists don't got no songs." That is funny, but untrue. As a change of pace this Thanksgiving week, FFRF's audio engineer and announcer Buzz Kemper hosts and DJs a show of historic and contemporary freethought songs from the three albums produced by the Freedom From Religion Foundation: "Friendly Neighborhood Atheist," "Beware of Dogma" and "Adrift on a Star."
Randolf has a YouTube channel and is the founding President of the Canadian atheists, which aims to normalize atheism in Canadian society (and hopefully the world), and to present atheism in the best possible ways. He occasionally post videos, primarily where atheism is the subject matter, although he also cover other topics from time-to-time. If you'd like to discuss atheism or religion, or some other topic of interest, please feel free to contact him as I'd be happy to engage with you in a conversation or interview, or participate in a live debate.Talking about how "people are more important than ideas" is an attitude he's been presenting from time-to-time in promoting atheism, and it's partly in response to the attitudes of some religious people who believe that all life should revolve around religious doctrine (which is a collection of ideas).Randolf also touches on leadership, and encourage people to "be their own leaders" because in many scenarios leaders, despite even the best intentions, don't/can't have everyone's best interests at heart. While leaders do serve important functions, I feel that each person is ultimately in a potentially-better position to know what their own best interests actually are.★ Support this podcast ★

Greetings Heathens! Happy Faithless Forum Weekend to all the folks who were able to go this past weekend. Hope you all had a grand time! (I'll be able to attend next year!) In the meantime, today's episode of Talk Heathen is hosted by Johnny P. Angel and Apostate Prophet.Let's get to calls! Max from Israel would like to address about how Islam has culturally appropriated ancient sites, particularly ones in Israel. Apostate Prophet gives his perspective and gives a fascinating quick look at the history of the region.Rami in Massachusetts is up next, he has faced pushback from others on Islam. Most often being faced with “that's racist” as a response when he attempts to talk about it and his thoughts on it. AP again explains beautifully how interwoven this is within a society and culture, and how they also attempt to be virtuous and impartial.Araan in Germany would like to explain why he converted from Islam to Christianity. He goes on to talk about how horrible Islam is and how great Christianity is. Is it though? What about Christianity solved your material problems? Old books from the Iron Age (and before) aren't really the best source to get ideas from though.Zion in California would like to talk about the land that was taken by Muslims that was originally Ancient Jewish land. Why are we criticizing Israel for doing this? Again, Apostate Prophet provides an amazing look on what is happening and explains his view on it.The Humble Servant in Canada is wondering what our best objections are to Christianity. Johnny starts by talking about magical thinking and how it is interspersed within it's epistemology and how it interacts with the secular world. AP agrees with this and provides his own; simply no convincing reason he would believe, Christianity has disputed historicity with no ability to truthfully verify it's claims, and he simply does not believe in the spiritual things and supernatural beings. The caller responds to this and goes back AGAIN to how the 7 day week is a miracle and inspired by God. Oh this guy again! He is very persistent! That's our show for this week, please continue to be safe in your area, wear your mask, and please please PLEASE get vaccinated if you can. The world is better with you in it. Welcome back to Truth Wanted! Tonight Puck's special guest is Krafty Keelah.First up is Walt, who has a Theory of Everything predicated on assumptions and conjecture. While this is a great conversation to have over a beer, Walt's hourglass hypothesis is just that, a hypothesis. Speculation and curiosity are the parents of discovery, do some tests and get back to us!Second we have Jason from Indiana, who's had some tough conversations with fellow mental health professionals promoting pseudoscience and homeopathy. Krafty offers some great tips on how to maintain professional integrity in a field that doesn't always have a yes or no answer.Next up is Jon in Canada, who believes that vaccine mandates violate bodily autonomy, and wants to draw a comparison with abortion. Krafty wisely points out that a person's choice to have an abortion does not put public health at risk, there's a huge difference there. Jon equates regulation to communism, and our hosts take a few minutes slapping that argument around.Spicoli in Florida offers an interesting perspective on how toxic nationalism contributes to vaccine hesitancy and other social issues. Krafty has some great commentary on how any myopic worldview is dangerous, and offers a uniquely Irish perspective on American exceptionalism.Muhammed wants to ask our hosts about morality and legality, is it wrong to steal to feed your family? What values trump others? How do we decide what's most important? This is a great conversation about how we as individuals and societies decide what matters to us.Tony in Mexico thinks that pharmaceutical companies may be disguising side effects in the interests of profit. While our hosts agree that profit is huge to these corporations, they also point out that these companies are competing against each other to have the “best” vaccine, and if money is their big motivator, it's in their best interest (and ours) to minimize harms from their product. Finally, Steven is going to talk about Christian mental health services. Krafty, coming from a very religious nation, talks about how excluding any method in favour of one that espouses your favourite imaginary friend is unethical. That's our show tonight folks! Keep seeking veracity through tenacity and perspicacity!

On this classic episode of ID the Future, guest host Ira Berkowitz interviews Rabbi Moshe Averick, author of Nonsense of a High Order: The Confused World of Modern Atheism, about Stephen Hawking's comments on God and religion in Hawking's posthumously published Brief Answers to the Big Questions. Averick describes the work as “superficial,” “convenient” and marked by “a glaring lack of profundity.” Or as the rabbi puts it, “If he did physics that way his university would have fired him.” Listen in to hear why Averick has such a problem with the book. Ever wondered if people actually experienced a true miracle? A miracle isn't just some feeling or coincidence, but something that just can't be dismissed with a naturalistic explanation. We challenged our guests to describe their own experience with miracles...and we did it LIVE and in public at North Carolina's largest flea market, with Monica Perez-Burnett and Isaac Leeward. Monica Perez-Burnett is a wife, mom of 8 (including 2 sets of twins), and a business coach with 29 years of experience in various industries. On this ID the Future Stephen Meyer sits down with talk show host and bestselling novelist Andrew Klavan to discuss Meyer's Return of the God Hypothesis. In this fast-paced conversation the pair touch on the Judeo-Christian roots of science, how fine tuning in physics and cosmology point to intelligent design, and how a great many scientists held out hope that the universe was eternal and therefore did not require a creator, but eventually threw in the towel as evidence mounted for a cosmic beginning. What about the multiverse hypothesis as an escape for atheists wishing to explain away the evidence for a cosmic designer? Meyer explains why it fails Occam's Razor, and then he and Klavan discuss a noted atheist Read More › Source

Welcome back to another episode of The Atheist Experience. This week, Kenneth Leonard and JMike take AXP by force!Today's first caller is “Leopold” from Canada who demands that the Atheist Experience apologizes for the harsh statements it has made against the Catholic Church in the past. Either engage with the hosts you are talking to and justify your position or call again after you think it back over.Next is Tim from TN who asks if someone who believes a God exists has the same burden of proof as someone who claims to know a God exists. It comes down to the much finer acceptances of claims. If they both accept that Jesus walked on water, superficial confidence levels aside, the implication itself requires an equal burden of proof from both parties.Up next is Alvin from NC claims that it is probable that the Bible is true. The caller mentions a number of improbable improbabilities and asserts them as evidence for their claim. They then site their webpage, which apparently finds mathematic patterns in random bible verses, as a source of evidence that the bible was intelligently woven together by math.Mr. Warlight returns from earlier to define spirituality and explain why it's important to have more of it. Just because something can't be disproven, especially something we have no track record for its existence, doesn't mean that it would be justified to accept it as a possibility.Next is Apollos from TX who claims that Atheists are inconsistent when evaluating arguments for the brain in a vat compared to arguments for Jesus' resurrection.
Greetings Heathens! Wow, we are in the middle of November already! Whew, time flies. In today's episode of Talk Heathen, baby faced Kenneth Leonard is joined by smooth talker Lloyd Evans. It's going to be a great show!Let's get to calls! Ofir from Israel is a nihilist and would like to talk to us about it. Lloyd asks a couple questions about life having meaning. But if there is any personal meaning to life, then nihilism is a moot point. (There are different “flavors” of Nihilism, but most subscribe to the idea that life has no meaning.)Aaron in Australia is up next, he is wondering what causes someone to convert to Atheism. He knows it's a process and there is usually not one argument to make this happen, but is there something at the end that really pushes folks to deconvert. Lloyd puts a pin in it and explains it further.Returning caller Setuf in Spain wants to talk about abortion and bodily autonomy. Sigh. Again. This has been the 3rd week of them talking about this topic. They keep turning it into a moral issue. Kenneth explains in a good and general way what bodily autonomy is and how it's applied and he tries his best to further explain the situations that a person would look into terminating a pregnancy. Setuf just doesn't want to listen because it doesn't adhere nor fit their narrative. OH! They are a presup! They continue to talk past Lloyd and pretty much ignore everything said! Listen to Lloyd Setuf, he is fantastic.Rick in Arizona's family is voicing concern about his soul after coming out as an Atheist. Kenneth dives in and talks about how it opens the door for further conversation depending upon how questions are asked.LeChef in Canada is wondering what our objection is to Christianity. They also changed their topic from the objection of Christianity to the 7 day cycle and lied to the call screener. Don't do that. But anyway, he goes into his spiel and Lloyd gets to hear it for the first time. He devolves the conversation into condescension and his reliance on the claim that the 7 day cycle is exclusive to the Bible is laughable. “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” -Stephen Hawking. That's our show for this week, please continue to be safe in your area, wear your mask, and please please PLEASE get vaccinated if you can. Most books by Christians about the atheism v theism debate start with the reasonableness of faith. Popular radio host and author Eric Metaxas starts with the reasonableness of science as filled with evidential power for the existence of God as can be known by faith. Welcome back to The Atheist Experience! This week Matt is joined by Arden Hart. Our first call today comes from Jake in Canada, who wants to ask about original sin, and how the Christian notion of substitutionary atonement is morally corrupt. We feel ya Jake.Second up is Andrew in New York, offering his understanding of paganism. Matt would rather hear from paganism from a pagan, and Arden points out that not all folks who identify as “pagan” share the same set of beliefs. Moving on!Mike from Texas stampedes out of the queue with a quick lecture about alternate theist views, before being lassoed in by Matt to talk about what HE believes. We hit on the problem of the source of consciousness, a bit of naturalism, and a touch of solipsism. Mike makes his case for the supernatural with a whole lot of five-dollar words, but Matt & Arden aren't impressed. Robin from DC believes that if one rejects a claim, one assumes the contrary position. Our hosts explain that it's possible to be unconvinced of both states. It's okay to say “I don't know” folks, in fact, it's a big step on the way to knowledge. Next we have Steven in WA who starts with an assertion that people have their own truths, Arden explains the difference between opinion and fact. Steven offers the example of people in his community offering career advice using their “true” assessments about his aptitudes, and Matt further clarifies that opinions and advice are not the same as truth. We wrap up by analyzing claims of a personal relationship with God, which Stephen concedes he cannot prove. LaRue in Illinois has a question about whether a family member's threats that he thinks were fulfilled by God qualify that person as sociopathic. Arden offers the caveat that she isn't qualified to make psychiatric diagnoses, and suggests that trying to determine whether behaviour is positive or negative for LaRue is probably more valuable. Tate asks our hosts what religious folks mean when they talk about subjective and objective morality. Matt offers a great explanation of how the product of a mind is the basis for subjective morality.Charles in Canada is a big fan, who doesn't like the statement that there isn't evidence for gods. Matt clarifies the difference between good evidence and testimony, and agrees that there is (air quotes) “evidence”, it's just not very compelling and hasn't convinced him.Jake from the UK is looking for tips on how to set boundaries with family members while salvaging relationships. Arden and Matt offer a couple examples of how to frame conversations so that they can be constructive. That's our show this week folks, wear your masks, get your shots, and let's get through this thing together!
This episode is truly LIT! Nate Smith leads the show, Mateo and Secular Rarity argue over best hair, and Puck returns to the Non-Prophets' hosting seat. The panel opens up a talk on recent news out of Ghana where the Archbishop of Canterbury criticizes a proposed bill encouraging increased penalties against the LGBT community. Special NP Recap involving more instances of African Pastors performing resurrection acts and fatally losing their lives because of it. The conversation takes a deep dive into the continuing dysfunction surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Latest “S**t Internet Apologists Say” conspiracy theorist Rick Wiles claims the American government is using the COVID-19 vaccine to impregnate its' citizens with parasitic eggs in order to amass an uncivil “evil cabal” … We wish we were making this s**t up.
When Atheism calls, Science, History, and Reason don't even pick up the phone. This week, Steve and the gang hang out with author Eric Metaxas to discuss exciting new scientific and archaeological discoveries that align with and affirm God's truth found in the Bible. Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Truth Wanted! This week, ObjectivelyDan is joined by Brently!First up tonight is Robert from CA who wants to vent his frustration with the right wing's use of “dog whistle” terms to rile up their base. The caller specifically dislikes their use of the word “indoctrination” with regard to education & science as it devalues the issues caused by actual religious indoctrination.Next up is Monty from ID who wants to discuss his experience with sleep paralysis and how their plan to stay calm and not panic the next time it happened may have helped keep them from experiencing it again.Next is Tony from Mexico who presents seemingly credible doctors who are against the mRNA vaccine as authorities to dispute the pro-vaccine position.Kelly from CA is back in the queue and this time has his evidence for a God. Technically the caller believes in the Christian God but opts to justify a more general God using genetic “code” as evidence. Unfortunately, the caller doesn't really understand the scientific consensus or the burden of proof.Next is Brian from OR who tells our hosts a cool story regarding demons that could be heard on a cassette tape, but was really just radio interference.Next up is John from TX who starts by asking how evolution can exist in a universe with entropy, and then follows up by quietly accusing our hosts of just regurgitating information without thinking just like theists do with religious texts.
FFRF's Director of Strategic Response Andrew Seidel describes the letter written by the Congressional Freethought Caucus to the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection complaining about the deceptive and dangerous Health Care Sharing Ministries. Then we speak with Bart Worden, executive director of the American Ethical Union, about the nontheistic religion of Ethical Culture Societies.
On today's ID the Future, astrobiologist Guillermo Gonzalez unpacks one of his chapters in the new book The Comprehensive Guide to Science and Faith, edited by episode host Casey Luskin. Gonzalez and Luskin look at how our atmosphere as well as the sun, moon, distance from our host star, and position in the Milky Way are all curiously fine tuned not only for life but also for allowing Earth's human inhabitants to observe and discover things near and far about nature. It's as if a master designer made the Earth not merely for life but for curious and intelligent beings. What about the fact that Earth is such a tiny part of a vast universe, a “pale blue dot” as Read More › Source
In today's episode of the Atheist Experience, Matt Dillahunty is joined by Jim Barrows!First is Joey from the UK who asks if following God's commands, even if they are immoral, for the sake of self-preservation is justified. This brings us back to the mafia boss analogy as acting differently than you would if not under threat in no way justifies the immoral behavior of the one holding a position of power.Next up is Carson from KS who worships and personifies nature. Other than because it seems appealing to do, why do this if as the caller claims, it's just atheism with some extra steps?Next is John from IN who is struggling to grieve the loss of a loved one without the comfort provided by religion.Next is Brandon from NJ who claims to have evidence of ghosts. Turns out the caller saw and heard a thing somewhere and determined that it was a Ghost. The caller also attempts to use the anomalies found in camera footage that could not be seen with the naked eye as support for the supernatural.Up next is Juan from Mexico who is a recent Atheist who still has lingering fears regarding promises they made to God when they still believed. The caller, who acknowledges the illogic in their position, is afraid that the God they no longer believe in may come knocking sometime later demanding the promises be fulfilled. Deconversion takes time, just keep reminding yourself that you do not believe and over time you'll be able to more easily push these nagging fears aside.Next is Mike from TX who claims that physics proves that there is no objective reality and that therefore the universe has a mind. Next time don't talk through Matt and you'll be on the line longer.Next is Guy from GA who asserts that the Universe needs to be revered and respected as if it's conscious and sentient, even though we have no evidence that it is.William from TX wants to know if Jesus understood what lust and adultery were? Thanks for the quick call.Next is Rich from PA who has a paranormal story where after a terrifying dream they ended up with physical marks on their back. They are wondering if there are any natural explanations for what happened.
