Independent progressive rockers Shadow Circus are back after a long hiatus with a brand new album, From the Shadows. The band released its fourth album on Halloween digitally and started shipping out CDs just recently. This latest release sees the band going heavier, darker, and much more introspective and personal than their previous albums, and it's given more punch with the contributions of former Pain of Salvation bassist Gustaf Hielm and drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen of The Devin Townsend Band. John gave the full backstory of the album and its songs and discussed his musical beginnings, the formation of Shadow Circus, why the band spent so much time between albums, and much more. Cajun Catholics ft. John Fontana 5-29-23 (216) by Cajun Catholics
Communion with the saints is a specific theological doctrine that can feel strange to non-Catholics working in Catholic health care. But is there more to this doctrine than simply praying to spiritual heroes? Can we view the saints as people from whom we can look to for inspiration and reflection?CHA's Mission Project Coordinator Karla Keppel and Fr. John Fontana, OSM, discuss communion with the saints as a way of drawing inspiration from imperfect people who have gone before us, highlighting the life of St. Peregrine Laziosi as one specific example. They also discuss “Inspired By the Saints: Contemplations for the Catholic Health Ministry,” a new series of reflections offered by CHA.
Preaching for the Fifth Sunday of Easter, Mariann McCorkle invites us to consider how we can embody Christ's command to "love": "Who accompanied you and made an impact on your spiritual life. Join me in giving thanks for that accompaniment. How then do we embody that love for ourselves and others?" Mariann McCorkle is Co-Director of the Ignatian Legacy Fellows Program, Loyola University Chicago. She founded the program in 2018 with John Fontana, Co-Director, to promote a community of learning in a pilgrimage over one year in one's retirement. Mariann holds a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in English and has taught literature, poetry and spirituality for years. Visit www.catholicwomenpreach.org/preaching/05152022 to learn more about Mariann, to read her text, and for more preaching from Catholic women.
We welcome back John J. Fontana, co-director of the Ignatian Legacy Fellows Program. For the past 25 months, the first cohort of scholars have gone around the globe, learning how to be in service to others. He tells us about their journey. Learn more about your ad choices. Today's guest on The Thriller Zone is thriller writer, PJ Vernon. His latest book, BATH HAUS, is a taught, nerve-wracking thriller, that will have you wondering WTH right up to nearly the end. While it is gay-themed (as a bit of a warning), it's a terrific story, and is chock full of everything you want in a thriller: mystery, intrigue, murder, tension, sex, and nasty, yet always alluring, characters. This is the second novel from this relatively new writer, but you can be certain you'll be hearing much more from him. As you'll quickly learn, PJ is upbeat, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining. By the end of the scant hour, you'll likely be left wanting more; more books, and more of his life stories. I had a blast, and I hope you will too. If after watching, you'd like to learn more, just visit: PJVernonBooks.com and follow him on Twitter @pjvernonbooks. There are many uber-talented people who were mentioned on this video, and I'd like to acknowledge them and invite them to the show: John Fontana, SVP Creative Director, Doubleday @ Random House (NYC) and the book cover designer for Bath Haus Bahni Turpin, Audiobook Narrator-When You Find Me Amy McFadden, Audiobook Narrator-When You Find Me Michael Crouch, Audiobook Narrator-Bath Haus Daniel Henning, Audiobook Narrator-Bath Haus Special Thanks to: May Cobb for introducing me to PJ. "I can't wait for us to go Pontoonin' with cocktails in our solo-cups!"
