Then when a well-connected friend becomes sick of Cassidy's moping and gets her a gig with famous Hollywood couple, Marisol and Nate Sterling, Cassidy jumps at the chance to move to sunny LA.The Sterlings are warm and welcoming. A perfect couple. All Cassidy has to do is be available a few hours a week for errands. In return, she has access to luxury: Designer clothes. A sparkling pool. Great pay. When Nate takes interest in her, asking her to read scripts he's written, Cassidy thinks this could be the key to kickstarting her writing dreams. As their business relationship grows, so does their attraction. Nate is sexy and talented, and Cassidy can't believe her luck. Clearly, Marisol doesn't know what she has. Maybe that's why the two are always fighting when they think Cassidy isn't around. But Cassidy learns she was hired for a different purpose. The Sterlings aren't the perfect couple. Marisol isn't the perfect wife. And when one of them is found dead, Cassidy becomes the perfect suspect.

What an honest, heartfelt, and profound conversation. Loved chatting with @May Cobb May is the author of MY SUMMER DARLINGS, THE HUNTING WIVES and BIG WOODS. Originally from East Texas, May moved to San Francisco where she studied Victorian Literature; then she lived in Los Angeles for a few years working for filmmaker/writer Ron Shelton and his wife, the actress Lolita Davidovich. She resides in Austin, Texas, with her husband and son where she says, “I enjoy napping, staring into space, making to-do lists for my to-do lists, shoveling cookies down my throat when I'm writing a particularly difficult scene (and even when I'm not), wearing my PJ's as often as I can get away with and collapsing into bed at the end of a day with a great book.” May's currently finishing a book about the late, jazz great, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, a project which has been in the works for twenty years. Kirk was a human phenomenon—a multi-instrumentalist who was best known for his miraculous ability to play three saxophones simultaneously. During his brief life, he defied staggering odds—from blindness, to prejudice, to a paralyzing stroke—to play the music that came to him through dreams. And May shares on today's episode why she felt a deep connection with Kirk's story, which also inspired her to become a writer. The mother of a child with autism, May talks about societal expectations and the judgment she's experienced. And we also talked about the representation of autism in her latest book, A LIKELY WOMAN. In today's episode, you'll learn more about May's inspiring story, how she carves time to create, and what inspires her writing. Thank you, May, for this honest, poignant conversation.

They stay sane by drinking wine in the afternoons, dishing about other women in the neighborhood, and bonding over the heartache of their own encroaching middle age and raising ungrateful teens. Then Will Harding comes to town, moving into one of the neighborhood's grandest homes. Mysterious and charming, he seems like the answer to each woman's prayers. He's a source of fascination for Jen, Kittie, and Cynthia, but none of them are ready for the way Will disrupts their lives. As Will grows closer with each of the women, their fascination twists into obsession, threatening their friendships and their families. When he abruptly pulls away, each woman scrambles to discover the source of his affection. But what they'll uncover is far more sinister and deadly than any of them could have ever imagined.

We are thrilled to talk with author May Cobb about planning your author financial life, working with multiple agents, writing lifelike sociopaths, and the changing trends of “likability” in characters. We loved reading My Summer Darlings—it really is the perfect summer read—and hearing about the story behind the story. May says: I grew up in the piney woods of East Texas where MY SUMMER DARLINGS, THE HUNTING WIVES and BIG WOODS are set. After college, I moved to San Francisco where I studied Victorian Literature for my Master's, and gravitated towards that era's detective novels, known as "sensation novels", such as Wilke Collins' THE WOMAN IN WHITE. I then lived in Los Angeles for a few years where I worked for filmmaker/writer Ron Shelton and his wife, the actress Lolita Davidovich. I currently live in Austin, Texas, with my husband and son where we enjoy traipsing around the area's many beautiful parks. I also enjoy napping, staring into space, making to-do lists for my to-do lists, shoveling cookies down my throat when I'm writing a particularly difficult scene (and even when I'm not), wearing my PJ's as often as I can get away with and collapsing into bed at the end of a day with a great book. I'm currently finishing a book about the late, jazz great, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, a project which has been in the works for twenty years. Kirk was a human phenomenon—a multi-instrumentalist who was best known for his miraculous ability to play three saxophones simultaneously. During his brief life, he defied staggering odds—from blindness, to prejudice, to a paralyzing stroke—in order to play the music that came to him through dreams. His story is what made me want to become a writer. My writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Rumpus, Austin Monthly, and Texas Highways Magazine. My proudest achievement remains clinching 1st place in the UIL competition for Personal Writing when I was in the 4th grade. Learn more about May here: https://www.maycobb.com/

May Cobb was my Guest #1 on The Thriller Zone, when we launched in mid-June of last year ('21). The book she was promoting at the time was The Hunting Wives, a sultry and intoxicating thriller. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/622762/my-summer-darlings-by-may-cobb/ (My Summer Darlings) is another summertime scorcher, where the temps, like the libidos of three suburban gals, rise to a crescendo amidst the backdrop of suburban Texas. On today's 66th Episode, we discuss a good many things, including the launch of her Texas-wide Book Tour, we dissect the "Multi-POV" of her thriller, as well as discuss her thoughts on "Pantsing vs. Plotting" - a reference to an author who "writes by the seat of their pants, or one that plots the beats into an extensive outline for a more cohesive structure." Later in the show, May discusses sex, romance, sex, adultery, and oh, sex. On a more serious note, we discuss her thoughts on "higher education," and whether or not it's needed. We touch on a mutually favorite book by Stephen King called "https://www.amazon.com/Writing-Memoir-Craft-Stephen-King/dp/1982159375/ref=sr_1_1?crid=34U7XW4NRHRFW&keywords=stephen+king+on+writing&qid=1652822495&sprefix=stephen+kin+on+%2Caps%2C160&sr=8-1 (On Writing)," a book many readers and writers in our audience have either read, or certainly have placed in their TBR stack. It's certainly in my Top 20 favorite (non-fiction) books of all time. Perhaps one of my favorite moments comes when May shares her best piece of advice for would-be writers. "Writing in the stolen moments" is a terrific encouragement to those who think they need hours upon hours (in a non-stop fashion) in order to achieve a completed manuscript. I think it's safe to say one of May's favorite moments comes when she imagines what her "antagonist" Will Harding would look like; that is, if she were to have a hand in casting him for the potentially upcoming television series (hey, a girl can dream, can't she?). Hint: Alexander Skarsgård. Please make some time to get to know May if you don't already, and of course, please consider picking up a copy of My Summer Darlings, for a sizzlin' summertime read. Today's guest on The Thriller Zone is thriller writer, PJ Vernon. His latest book, BATH HAUS, is a taught, nerve-wracking thriller, that will have you wondering WTH right up to nearly the end.  While it is gay-themed (as a bit of a warning), it's a terrific story, and is chock full of everything you want in a thriller: mystery, intrigue, murder, tension, sex, and nasty, yet always alluring, characters. This is the second novel from this relatively new writer, but you can be certain you'll be hearing much more from him. As you'll quickly learn, PJ is upbeat, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining. By the end of the scant hour, you'll likely be left wanting more; more books, and more of his life stories. I had a blast, and I hope you will too. If after watching, you'd like to learn more, just visit: PJVernonBooks.com and follow him on Twitter @pjvernonbooks. There are many uber-talented people who were mentioned on this video, and I'd like to acknowledge them and invite them to the show: John Fontana, SVP Creative Director, Doubleday @ Random House (NYC) and the book cover designer for Bath Haus Bahni Turpin, Audiobook Narrator-When You Find Me Amy McFadden, Audiobook Narrator-When You Find Me Michael Crouch, Audiobook Narrator-Bath Haus Daniel Henning, Audiobook Narrator-Bath Haus Special Thanks to: May Cobb for introducing me to PJ. "I can't wait for us to go Pontoonin' with cocktails in our solo-cups!" As always, and if you're still reading all the way down here, I want to say THANK YOU for listening to this podcast, either on TheThrillerZone.com or wherever you get your podcasts. My guest today is thriller writer May Cobb, author of The Hunting Wives. Samantha Bailey, author of Woman on the Edge, says, "Wickedly dark, juicy, and addictive, as if the characters from Big Little Lies and Desperate Housewives moved into the same upscale, twisted neighborhood." AJ Finn, author of The Woman in the Window, says, "This fearless, faultless novel confirms May Cobb as one of the most original crime novelists at work today." With an MA in literature from San Francisco State University, her essays and interviews have appeared in the Washington Post, the Rumpus, Edible Austin, and Austin Monthly. Her debut novel, Big Woods, won multiple awards. A Texas native, she lives in Austin with her family. Please welcome an up-and-coming superstar thriller writer and my new friend, May Cobb.

https://www.maycobb.com/ My upcoming thriller, THE HUNTING WIVES, will be released from Berkley/Penguin Random House in May 2021. My debut thriller, BIG WOODS, won multiple awards and was released summer 2018. I grew up in the piney woods of East Texas where both THE HUNTING WIVES and BIG WOODS are set. After college, I moved to San Francisco where I studied Victorian Literature for my Master's, and gravitated towards that era's detective novels, known as "sensation novels", such as Wilke Collins' THE WOMAN IN WHITE. I then lived in Los Angeles for a few years where I worked for filmmaker/writer Ron Shelton and his wife, the actress Lolita Davidovich I currently live in Austin, Texas, with my husband and son where we enjoy traipsing around the area's many beautiful parks. I also enjoy napping, staring into space, making to-do lists for my to-do lists, shoveling cookies down my throat when I'm writing a particularly difficult scene (and even when I'm not), wearing my PJ's as often as I can get away with and collapsing into bed at the end of a day with a great book. My writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Rumpus, Austin Monthly, and Edible Austin. My proudest achievement remains clinching 1st place in the UIL competition for Personal Writing when I was in the 4th grade.
