I had the great pleasure of hanging out with two of the best makers and podcasters out there, Geoff Feder and Keith Decent. We started talking about art but of course the conversation took off and we ended up talking about products, teaching, sharing, and problem-solving from sculpture to business. Check out Geoff at Feder Knives on Instagram and the web shop, the Full Blast Podcast, and the Knife Talk Podcast. Check out Keith on Instagram, his web store, and From the Ground Up Podcast.
This episode I had a great conversation with Keith Decent, a maker and artist who recently started exploring product development. We talk about some of the deep concepts behind some of this art while keeping most of his projects playful and fun. Find Keith on Instagram and Youtube. I've always wanted to do a comic book episode and think how comics characters established generations ago translate though history. I had my friend Keith Decent stop by and we explored the real origins of some of these iconic characters and looked into the parallels between comic companies attracting young fans and how social media is introducing young people to the maker community. We talked about Keith's evolution in his new work and can there be TV that represents the maker community? Is something bigger on the horizon? Keith in incredibly talented and has a great podcast called: From The Ground Up which you should listen to and support and has a new episode coming up this week.Links:Follow Keith on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/keithdecent/From The Ground Up Podcasthttps://www.ftgupodcast.com/The Video I was referring to about quenching the anvil was from: https://www.instagram.com/hdesrosiersknives/https://www.instagram.com/p/BqEfODOBLl-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkFollow The Full Blast Podcast on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/thefullblastpodcast/Please subscribe, leave a review and tell your friends about the show. it helps me out a lot! This week the boys go live on YouTube to celebrate their birthday and answer some listener questions, even ones from Keith Decent.
Keith Decent is a maker, artist, content creator and overall fun guy. As a young man he learned coding on his own to build websites and after being disillusioned by the corporate direction of art school he struck it out on his own. His YouTube channel is a fun foray into his style- flush with humanity and spontaneity. Reclaimed and upcycled projects, using rusty tools found in the bottom of buckets Keith brings you on a journey where the end result is not perfect but sincere. I really enjoyed our conversation about his direction whether it be about his love of ice cream and the projects that resulted from it, his series on making guitars and his celebration of imperfect quality control. When you look at the body of his work, especially on his YouTube Channel you are seeing his development as an artist. These videos are a look in the Artist's notebook; some videos are like a sketch of an idea made on a whim. An artist should celebrate growth as apposed to following trends and the viewer should should be able to trace the evolution of work. Keith has the receipts of his direction and the viewer can wind their way through his thought process. I'm looking forward to what's next and you should too. Welcome to episode 9! This week I had the honor of speaking to one of the first YouTube makers I ever followed, the amazing and talented Keith Decent. In this episode we talk about making, creativity, art, and what makes the community known as the maker movement special! Note: The audio from the recording was completely jacked, so things might sound a little off and I apologize for that, but I managed to save the episode and in the end that's all that matters, right?
