In this episode, Susan has Greg watch "Young Adult," written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman. The stars Charlize Theron as Mavis Gary - an alcoholic and emotionally-stunted divorcee. Mavis heads back to her hometown to win back her old high school flame (Patrick Wilson) after she receives an emailed birth announcement from his wife (Elizabeth Reaser). The movie contains a stellar performance by Patton Oswalt, who plays Mavis' former classmate, Matt Freehauf. Matt, who was brutally attacked during high school by a bunch of jocks and left permanently disabled, becomes the former prom queen's drinking buddy and semi-reluctant confidante and conscience while she's in town. Greg and Susan disagree on whether or not the film should be considered a comedy. The two also explore the film's unlikeable main character and how the film masks itself as a Rom-Com but subverts expectations. Oswalt's performance is also discussed along with trivia about "Young Adult" and its box office performance. Mavis Everett, or "Mavey Wavey" as she's known by her nearly 70,000 fans on Instagram, is a shuffler, festival fanatic, electronic music devotee, bold style maven, and someone who does NOT trust Tai Lopez...but we'll get into that later. I discovered Mavis, not surprisingly, on Instagram. At the time I was in one of my (many) EDM phases and so seeing her shuffle so effortlessly to the music was inspiring and down right RIDICulous. I've been hooked on her swagger ever since. It was a relief to find out that she was as amiable and exuberant in person as she exudes so smoothly on her social media. I had a great time chatting with Mavis! The conversation takes some humorous turns through pop culture happenings, from Kanye's creepy Minimalist house (Wtf is wrong with his house tho??) to Tai's sketch marketing tactics, to the fear of running into celebs that you love....and they turn out to be dicks. We also get the lowdown on the festival scene, electronic artists you should be listening to, Mavis' style inspirations, and we answer the age old question, exactly how hard is shuffling anyway? Enjoy, TOL'ers! You can find Mavis here! Instagram Facebook Youtube And for more TOL: Facebook Twitter Instagram Twitch Youtube

This is On the Lam's very first "bonus" episode! It actually is a recorded conversation that Daver made just prior to our recording Episode 1. The four of us (Daver & Frenchie, and Mavis & Bill) were on vacation together, and Mavis started telling the story of "The Missing Checkbook." As she began, Daver got out his new portable microphone which he decided to test on Mavis' story [and since it was a first time test, this explains some of the volume variations in the recording]. Mavis' tale evolved into a rather interesting little discussion on how sometimes things just disappear -- objects you know have not been "stolen" but somehow vanish nonetheless. And somewhere in here, Mavis kneels on a blueberry.
