Oswalt also explores topics including the angst of social media, the current political climate and being tricked by robocalls. Filmed at Chicago's Athenaeum Theatre, the one-hour stand-up special originally premiered globally on October 17 on Netflix. Brasil-Mundo

Brasil-Mundo

Play Episode Listen Later May 7, 2022 5:00

Três brasileiras fazem parte do time de comediantes do "Netflix is a Joke": Bruna Louise, Manu Maciel e Carol Zoccoli. "Aconteceu de eu chegar no show e dizer 'boa noite', e o cara gritar: chata", recorda Zoccoli.

Cold case investigator Paul Holes played a major role in ending a decades-long reign of terror by The Golden State Killer. First known as The East Area Rapist, a masked psychological sadist assaulted 50 women in Northern California between 1976 and 1979. He progressed from burglaries to vicious sexual assaults in the middle of the night, to bludgeoning his victims to death. Along the way, he called 911 to taunt the police. Suddenly it seemed he had disappeared. But he had moved to a new hunting ground in Southern California where he murdered 13 people and became known as the Original Night Stalker.  And then in 1986, it stopped. In 2011, DNA testing revealed that the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker were one in the same man. True-crime writer Michelle McNamara gave the elusive criminal the moniker the “Golden State Killer.”  McNamara, the wife of comedian/actor Patton Oswalt, became obsessed with the long-abandoned cold case for six years, focusing attention on it until her untimely death. Enter investigator Paul Holes.  Holes talked with Robert about his newly released book, Unmasked: My Life Solving America's Cold Cases. They discuss the “Golden State Killer”, notorious cases in Texas, and breakthroughs in forensic genealogy.  We want to become your favorite true crime podcast. Beth Lapides is a comedian, writer, producer and the Host of UnCabaret. UnCabaret is a legendary alternative comedy show which has helped define the genre over 25 years ago. In short, it's a progressive storytelling show where comedians tell true stories they've never told on stage before. (No rehearsed bits, no derogatory jokes.), a real game changer in the industry. For more than 25 years, UnCabaret has been the un-homophobic, un-xenophobic, un-misogynistic and un-hacky place for comedy luminaries to tell stories ripped from the headlines of their lives. UnCabaret has been adapted into an Amazon Prime series, a Comedy Central special, and five critically acclaimed albums. Its notable guest list includes Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard, Kathy Griffin, Maria Bamford, Julia Sweeney, Tig Notaro, Jon Stewart, Jennifer Coolidge, Sarah Silverman, Natasha Leggero, Sam Jay, Ali Wong and countless more. Her new book So You Need to Decide, features conversations with comedians, writers and cultural icons about making decisions in family, work, love, moving, and spirituality. It's part memoir, part interviews and I recommend you grab a copy.  Beth is all about authenticity and self-reflection, as reflected in both the audiobook and UnCabaret. She loves to explore the stories behind our stories.  This is only a small snapshot of what she has achieved and as you can imagine we dive deep and cover a lot, such as applying for first lady, UNCABARET, regrets, her new book, living your REAL life, yoga, Bob Odenkirk, wounds, pilots that don't get made, addictions and drinking, shame, signs and symbols. This month our Class Reunion series explores 2011's Young Adult. CageClub Podcast Network hosts Dan Colon and John Brooks stop by to chat all about Charlize Theron and her remarkable performance, Patton Oswalt and his brief foray into more dramatic roles, Patrick Wilson being Patrick Wilson, Jason Reitman's early career as well as everything that inspired Diablo Cody to create this memorable film. While Young Adult is not for everyone and probably shouldn't be described as a "feel good" story, Charlize's turn as a struggling Y.A. writer traveling back to her hometown to steal away her high school sweetheart from his perfect suburban life will definitely strike a chord with micro-generation of viewers.

Charissa Barton is responsible for choreographing one of the most universally beloved opening credits sequences of all time: that of Peacemaker on HBO Max. Newsweek described it as “[probably] the most memorable opening credits sequence of any superhero show in recent years.” The Hollywood Reporter went even further, calling it “one of the greatest opening credits in TV history.” In the sequence, characters like Peacemaker (John Cena), Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) perform their slammin' robot-like dance moves to Wig Wam's 2010 rock-metal track “Do You Wanna Taste It,” their expressions intensely stoic. Comedian Patton Oswalt echoed millions of fans when he tweeted, “Has ANYONE ever used the ‘skip intro' option in @DCpeacemaker? ‘Cuz I never will.” In this special episode, we meet the dynamic artist behind those iconic moves. His influence on Matt's life is unquantifiable. As was moving from his hometown as a child. But he found comfort and friendships playing the drums. It was such a help to him that he found himself playing as a professional drummer by the age of thirteen! But that's just the beginning. He moved to San Francisco for the music scene but stayed for the comedy. He began doing standup and roomed with Patton Oswalt and Mitch Hedberg. Their dedication to their craft lit a fire under Matt, but for his music, not his comedy. He wound up in LA playing drums, professionally and even doing some acting. But with the rising cost of living in LA, coupled with the discovery that his son had a learning disability and would require assistance, Matt and his family decided it was time to leave. He moved to Nashville where he ended up in a lawsuit about the quality of the special needs education his son was receiving. All of this helped to inspire his latest album, Bullies In The Backyard. There are songs influenced by his legal battles, the job he had to get at The Home Depot to help pay for that battle, and even his awesome mother-in-law. Bullies In The Backyard,” North's second LP, features 10 songs written under the cloud of a seven-year lawsuit Matt's family ultimately won against Nashville Public Schools due to violations against his son's special needs. The Federal Court verdict changed precedents and now benefits families nationwide facing similar challenges. No, it's not 10 songs about special education, but with no work in sight for recording or live shows due to Covid, Matt enlisted himself at Nashville's Home Depot to support his family and spent the rest of his time recording “Bullies In The Backyard” in his home studio. Just like Guy Patterson in the iconic film “That Thing You Do,” Matt found himself selling appliances when he'd rather be drumming. Mixed by Grammy-winning producer, Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Wilco, Los Lobos) and mastered by Pete Lyman (Tom Waits, Chris Stapleton, Weezer), the record features appearances from Jonny Polonsky and Jesse DeNatale alongside Matt's core band of Nashville A-listers: Stuart Mathis (Lucinda Williams, The Wallflowers) – guitars Chris Donohue (Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris) – bass Michael Webb (John Fogerty, Chris Stapleton) – keyboards   North grew up playing gigs in Champaign, Illinois; starting as a teenager drumming with the late Jay Bennett of Wilco and Coltrane bassist, Rafael Garrett. He dropped out of The University of North Texas in 1990, forfeiting his music scholarship to join the University of Illinois Jazz Band for a tour of Russia alongside bassist, Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett, Indigo Girls). Moving to San Francisco, he worked as a fact-checker for Mother Jones Magazine, played in garage bands, and wound up roommates with comedians Patton Oswalt and Mitch Hedberg in the Haight for some two years. At 26, North was signed as a writer to the William Morris Agency by manager, Dave Becky, whose roster included Marc Maron, Louis C.K., Dave Attell, and Chris Rock. Matt moved to Los Angeles, and began composing songs, answering “Drummer Wanted” ads, and writing a screenplay, Best Western; the latter won multiple awards, and led to regular work as a story analyst – a skill he's transferred into songwriting. In 2000, North starred opposite James Woods in the Golden Globe-winner “Dirty Pictures” directed by Frank Pierson (writer of Cool Hand Luke, Dog Day Afternoon) was soon hired by Larry David to guest star in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Matt's chief focus remained on producing music and raising his son who was born with learning challenges due to a rare chromosomal disease. During his time in Los Angeles and Nashville he performed live and recorded with the following:   Matt's Info http://www.mattnorth.net /https://mattnorthofficial.bandcamp.com/releases
