Growing old is not easy but it is a unique time to shine as a spiritual influencer. Make a pulpit out of your circumstances to re-present Jesus Christ to others. This is why you're still alive, to have a spiritual impact. Focus on the Lord and His provisions for you, not on your difficulties. Until your Father calls you to the Home Office, redeem the time He's allotted you. Wake up seeking God's favor and thanking Him for another day. “The Lord's compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lam 3:22). The aging stage of life is all about your spiritual strength—growing daily, standing on the dynamics of God's Word and moving forward. “One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:14). The hotel was the infamous Cecil Hotel, located at the foot of Skid Row. She would soon learn about the hotel's notoriety-since its opening in 1927, there had been any number of deaths by suicide, and some of the residents included the serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger. Price's temporary job eventually turned into a permanent one, as the general manager. Price recounts her unlikely path in her memoir BEHIND THE DOOR: The Dark Truths and Untold Stories of the Cecil Hotel (William Morrow; On sale October 3, 2023; $30.00, 240 pages; ISBN 978-0-06-325765-8). From the very beginning of what was supposed to be a temporary job, it was Price's mission to turn the hotel into a more-welcoming place and a place that could survive constant challenges. As general manager, Price was one of the key figures who was interviewed for Netflix's highly rated documentary series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. Before being interviewed, she was told by producers that the series would focus on the hotel's history and would touch on the Elisa Lam tragedy. So she was surprised that the actual focus of the series ended up being almost solely about the mysterious death of Lam, a haunting case that captivated millions and led to its own controversies and unwarranted personal attacks on Amy. BEHIND THE DOOR touches on the fallout from the documentary, but it is about so much more than that. This is Price's story, but also the "untold stories of all the tenants and guests who would probably otherwise remain anonymous." Price got things done while she managed the hotel, often dealing with harrowing occurrences (indeed, 80 people died over the 10 years she worked there). But she never lost sight of the humanity of the people she encountered there, even if they had been discarded and abandoned by society. Her humanity shines through in every chapter. Amy Price is the former general manager of downtown Los Angeles's notorious Cecil Hotel. She lives with her dogs in West Hollywood.

Psalm 106:1-6 - Our Failures and God's Mercy

Pastor Mike Impact Ministries

Psalm 106:1-6 1 Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can declare all His praise? 3 Blessed are those who keep justice, And he who does righteousness at all times! 4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favor You have toward Your people; Oh, visit me with Your salvation, 5 That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may glory with Your inheritance. 6 We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, We have done wickedly.   The anonymous writer of Psalm 106 has summarized the history of Israel in the Old Testament as well as any chapter in the Bible. He records their story of God's great power in redeeming them from slavery in Egypt, miraculously providing for them as they journey through the wilderness, and protecting them from their enemies that sought to destroy them or put them back in bondage. At the same time, the psalmist recounted how quickly they forgot how great God was and what He had done for them. Then he reminds them of their failure after failure, their unbelief, and even their rebellion against God when they encountered any discomfort or challenge that seemed to be too great for them.   I'm convinced that this chapter is also the summary of the story of the majority of believers. God redeems us from the slavery and bondage of our sin through the great sacrifice of His Son on the cross. We experience forgiveness of all our sins, we find true life, hope, and peace for the first time in our life as the guilt, burden and darkness of sin is lifted from us. But it is not long until we encounter some difficult and challenging people, or situations and the next thing you know; we start thinking we had it better as a lost person than we have as a Christian. We stop praying, reading our Bibles, going to church, avoid our Christian friends and end back up in the world with a cold heart doing the things we did before we found Christ.   Then we finally, like the prodigal son, after we find ourselves in the pigpen of the filth of the world, in a state of loneliness, misery and brokenness, we come to our senses, and we remember our loving Father in heaven, and we run back to Him and ask for and find forgiveness. But then it is not long until we repeat the very same thing again. That's why I think Psalm 106 is a wonderful reminder that no matter what we do and how many times we fail God and others, we can still turn to our Lord Jesus Christ for mercy, forgiveness, and restoration. We also realize we are not the only one who has failed repeatedly and need God's grace and mercy! (1 Corinthians 10:13).   In verses 1-6, the psalm begins on a high note of worship and praise. Before he looked back on the failures of his people, or looked around at the ruins of the kingdom, the psalmist looked up and gave thanks to God for His goodness and mercy (vv. 1-3). Jehovah had been merciful in all that He had done, and the writer accepted God's will as just and right. Then the psalmist turned from praise to prayer and asked God to include him in the blessings of the promised restoration of the nation (vv. 4-5).   But his prayer was not selfish, for he wanted the whole nation to prosper, to rejoice in the Lord, and to give praise to His name. His prayer climaxed with penitence as he confessed his sins and the sins of his people (v. 6). "We have sinned with our fathers" is better than "Our fathers sinned." Nehemiah, Daniel and Jeremiah prayed similar prayers. (Neh. 1:6, Dan. 9:5, 8, 11, 15; Lam. 5:16.)   The psalmist claimed the promise that King Solomon asked God to honor when he dedicated the temple (1 Kings 8:46-53). As we study this psalm, it may be like witnessing an autopsy, but we will benefit from it if, like the psalmist, we keep our eyes on the Lord of glory and see His kindness and faithfulness to His sinful people.   God bless!

God Reveals His Nurture Today we are going to look at one of my favorite words in the Bible – the great Hebrew word Hesed, which the ESV often translates as “steadfast love!” Read Exodus 34:1-9 The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and _____________, slow to ____________, and abounding in steadfast ______________ and truth, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but Who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers on the children and the children's children to the third and fourth generation. -Exodus 34:6-7 God will reveal more of Himself to those who are growing in their relationship with Him. The word abounding is the word Rab (H7227a), which occurs 414x in the Old Testament. It is often translated much, many, great, or abounding. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love (Hesed) surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. -Psalm 32:10 How does God want us to think about Him when we think about His name? As the God who ABOUNDS in steadfast love (Hesed)! The word Hesed (H2617) occurs 249 times in the Hebrew Old Testament. The ESV usually translates it as “steadfast love.” The CSV usually translates it as “faithful love.” The KJV and others usually translate it mercy, lovingkindness, or goodness. One Jewish scholar translated it as grace. Surely goodness and mercy (Hesed) shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. -Psalm 23:6 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness/ truth. -Lam. 3:23 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness/ truth forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. -Proverbs 3:3 Who perfectly embodied God's Hesed (steadfast love, grace) and Emet (faithfulness, truth)? Jesus And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as the of the only Son of the Father, full of (abounding in) grace and truth. -John 1:14 What special times will God's steadfast love matter to you? When you have sinned Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. -Psalm 51:1 When you love those who have sinned against you with a Godlike love. And I will betroth you to Me forever. I will betroth you to Me in in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord. -Hosea 2:19-20 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. -Hosea 6:6 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness (HESED), and to walk humbly with yout God. -Micah 6:8 When you are reaching out to those who don't yet know God. And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is this not what I said when I was yet in my country? This is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; FOR I KNEW that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.” -Jonah 4:2 He (Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always live to make intercession for them. -Hebrews 7:25

In August 1982, a Kodak technician was processing some photos when he saw the image of a naked young woman appear. He took a closer look, and any excitement he may have felt quickly disappeared when he realised she had been severely mutilated…The ensuing investigation led to the conviction of Hong Kong's first ever serial killer: Lam Kor-wan, known as the ‘Rainy Night Butcher', or ‘Jars Killer'. Lam had been conducting sick dissections in a tiny bedroom he shared with his unwitting brother – and keeping specimens, suspended in rice wine, in a grim collection of Tupperware containers under his bed.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
