Not only has technology changed over the last decade, but so has the industry, the way we form relationships and lets not even get started with the rise of social media. No matter what facet of the industry you serve, you really have to either adapt or die. Today's guests, Rick and Sarah Pendergraft of PenWeddings have been in the industry for  over 15 years. They have learned first hand how important it is to not be stuck in their ways and how to evolve with the times. They truly follow the mantra of "Don't be afraid of the unknown. Learn it. Embrace it. And move forward." We have a feeling that you will be singing the same tune after listening to this conversation. LEVEL UP resources:- Luxury Client Communication Guide- https://thelevelupco.com/luxury-client-communication-guide- Download your free Planner Communication Guide here: https://thelevelupco.com/planner-communication-freebie- Purchase the Filmmaker / Wedding Planner Communication Email Templates: https://thelevelupco.com/planner-email-template-bundle- Purchase the Elevated Client Experience Bundle: https://thelevelupco.com/client-experience-bundle- Join the LEVEL UP Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/levelupyourweddingbusiness- Learn more about The Luxury Framework + Mastermind: https://thelevelupco.com/theluxuryframework Connect with Taylor , Kelley + The Level Up Co.:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thelevelupco/Taylor's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taylorpetrinovich/Kelley's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/618studio...

Mentorships. You are probably too far along in your business to have one, right? Or you probably think that they are just for beginners? You are older than someone, or have been in business longer than someone, so you’d never reach out to them about mentoring you in an area you just can’t get over the hump with in your business? Nick and John break down the myths behind mentorships, talk about how they have affected them in their businesses, and go through different ways their businesses have changed because of mentorships. John was in business for almost 9 years before he even went to a workshop, and breaks down whether or not he wishes he would have sought out any help beforehand. Nick talks about spending a day with PenWeddings, and then doing a multi-week long mentorship with Forestry Films. Whether you are brand new, or have been doing this for a while, we strongly recommend you listen to this episode. It just may be the push you need to make the changes in your business that take you to the next level! We are giving away a 1 hour mentorship session FOR FREE. SARAH & RICK PENDERGRAFT Pen Weddings   EPISODE 17 SHOW NOTES   INTERNATIONAL AWARD-WINNING WEDDING FILMMAKERS   STORYTELLERS CAPTURING THE FEELING OF THE DAY   There’s something about the way moving pictures blend with music… the way the sight of your fiance’s tears and the sound of your bridesmaids’ laughter take you back to one of the most important days in your life… this is why we make wedding films. This is what we love.   We don’t define the kinds of weddings we want to shoot by budget or style… glamorous vs. rustic, luxury vs. DIY, ballroom bash vs. destination elopement. At PenWeddings, the kind of work we want to produce is based on personality and emotion. We work with couples who are excited to tell their story, and people who are deliriously happy and full of love and life.   Widely regarded as the best storytellers in the industry, we’ve also started teaching. Believe us, the thought makes us blush, but we’ll accept the compliment with happy hearts. Filmmakers interested in our mentoring, video workshops, & the Wedding Film Retreat can learn more here.   How Sarah & Rick got started in wedding videography? What is the difference in having your story told in photography versus video? What couples should be looking for in videographers? How they ensure they aren’t being intrusive? What couples should expect if they book PenWeddings? What is the typical turnaround time?   You can learn more about PenWeddings:   Website: http://penweddings.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/penweddings/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PenWeddingsFilms?ref=ts Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/penweddings/ Quotes: “The emotion of the wedding and that ‘reliving of the day’ feeling are things we can convey that you’re just not going to get out of still photos.”   “We’re the keeper of people’s legacies.”   “Kids & grandkids of our couples will be able to take that DVD or flash drive, stick it in, and see & hear family members that they normally wouldn’t have.”   “As long as you’re open to it, don’t limit yourself to looking in your city because there are a lot of styles out there.”   “In our industry, one person’s doc edit is another person’s feature film. Couples do need to be sure to ask questions because everyone defines those terms differently.” “We have couples say all the time that they forgot that we were there.”   “We try to be super respectful of the couple & of the moment.”   “When it comes to your photographer & videographer you need to know that you like their personalities. You need to know what you’re getting.”   “We put a lot of time into our editing so it’s not one of those things that we can knock out super fast, but it is nice when we can get a highlight up within a couple weeks of the wedding.”   “We want to have fun & we want to work with people who have personality & who aren’t afraid of the camera.”   “We’re not the company you hire if you just want a body there pointing a camera. We want to get to know you and want to enjoy being around you on your wedding day, but more than that, have you enjoy us being there because we’re there the whole time.” Links:   Pen Weddings Recent Video of Jordan + David’s Rainy Wedding At Kenneth Cooper Films our passion is weaving together compelling stories with timeless and elegant visuals. SSP 019: How To Succeed In A Small Market w/ Sarah and Rick Pendergraft of PenWeddings

Find the original post at: podcast.studiosherpas.com It’s a challenge that wedding filmmakers and creative business owners the world over face and struggle with, every day. "When is it time to quit my job and go full-time on this? Is it even possible for me to make a career telling stories through film?? My market is waaay too small for that...” Some of us struggle with this for months, years, or our entire lives without ever taking the leap and giving it a shot. The timing never seems quite right, our ideal clients are nowhere to be found and there are too many obstacles that we perceive to be standing in between us and our dreams. Find the original post at: podcast.studiosherpas.com Sarah and Rick Pendergraft of PenWeddings have been there, and know all of the struggles associated with making the move into a totally foreign industry. Based in Broken Arrow, OK (yeah I had no idea where that was either), it’s hard to say that they’re in a “high end” wedding market, and yet they’ve steadily been increasing their prices, year after year since launching the company in 2009. Not only that, but they consistently travel around the world to shoot high-end weddings for couples they love working with, and who genuinely care about the finished product. I’ll be the first to say that I learned a ton from them today about some of the experiments they’ve done along the way, (some successful and some not) related to pricing, marketing, and scheduling. They also dive deep into how they went about making the leap from working for the local news station, to crafting wedding stories at European castles, Mexican beaches, and much, much more.
