However, in Racing parity is a big deal to sanctioning bodies, fans and some manufacturers and teams. Promise, Witness, Remembrance (on view from April 6 to June 11, 2021) at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, was curated by Allison Glenn and reflects on the life of Breonna Taylor, her killing in 2020, and the year of protests that followed. The exhibition is organized around the three words of its title, which emerged from a conversation between curator Allison Glenn and Tamika Palmer, mother of Breonna Taylor, during the exhibition's planning. In "Promise," artists explore ideologies of the United States through the symbols that uphold it, reflecting on the nation's founding, history, and the promises and realities, both implicit and explicit, contained within them. In "Witness," they address the contemporary moment, building upon the gap between what a nation promises and what it provides through artworks that explore ideas of resistance across time, form, and context. In "Remembrance," they address gun violence and police brutality, their victims, and their legacies. The death of Breonna Taylor, a Black medical worker who was shot and killed by Louisville police officers in March 2020 during a botched raid on her apartment, has been one of the main drivers of wide-scale demonstrations that erupted in the spring and summer over policing and racial injustice in the United States.A grand jury in September indicted a former Louisville detective involved in the raid, Brett Hankison, for wanton endangerment of neighbors whose apartment was hit when he fired without a clear line of sight into the sliding glass patio door and window of Ms. Taylor's apartment. He pleaded not guilty. No charges were announced against the other two officers who fired shots, and no one was charged for causing Ms. Taylor's deathStephen Reily served as the Director of the Speed Art Museum from April 2017 to June 2021. He is a successful entrepreneur, civic leader, lawyer, and supporter of the arts in building a stronger community. For four years, Stephen served as Chair and Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Creative Capital Foundation, a national grant maker in the arts. He has served as the Chair of the Greater Louisville Project and is a member of the Boards of the Louisville Urban League and the J. Graham Brown Foundation. He also founded Seed Capital Kentucky, a non-profit focused on building a more sustainable future for Kentucky's farmers. As an entrepreneur Reily foundeD IMC, a global leader in brand licensing that has generated over $3 billion in consumer product sales for the Fortune 500 brands it represents. Australia is great at research but struggles to capture its commercial benefits. The World Intellectual Property Organization's 2020 Global Innovation Index ranks us 13th for innovation inputs, but 31st for innovation outputs. Bridging this gap is a growing focus for the government, as part of its ambition to make Australia a “leading digital economy by 2030”. So what's holding us back? And how can we use Australian research to not only drive the economy but also tackle social and environmental challenges? For insight on these questions, CEDA CEO Melinda Cilento spoke with CSIRO Chief Executive Dr Larry Marshall and Microsoft Australia Managing Director Steven Worrall. But first, Melinda is joined by CEDA Chief Economist Jarrod Ball to discuss some of the issues we're thinking about at CEDA this week.
The Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) has mapped around three million distant galaxies with remarkable speed and detail. The telescope completed its first survey of the sky from the Outback in Western Australia in just 300 hours. According to Larry Marshall, head of Australian science agency Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the survey was a breakthrough in unveiling the mysteries of the universe. The survey's result is analogous to a Google Map of the universe, where millions of faraway galaxies are shown as star-like marks. The map includes about a million new galaxies that had never been seen before. Other telescopes would have taken about a decade to map out the same number of galaxies. In addition, compared to other surveys of the sky that require tens of thousands of images to process and combine, the ASKAP only needed about 900 images to create a new atlas of the sky. Because of its superior capabilities, astronomer David McConnell described the ASKAP as a game-changer in astronomy. The telescope is equipped with CSIRO-designed receivers that enable it to have a vast field of view and capture images of the sky in higher resolution compared to other telescopes. Its custom-built software is also capable of quickly processing the large amounts of data it generates. McConnell said the telescope is more sensitive, capturing a larger number of objects than ever before. Scientists at CSIRO expect to conduct more surveys of the sky and discover millions more galaxies in the future. They are also hopeful that the telescope will allow them to observe changes in the sky and gain a better understanding of the life cycle of stars and the evolution of black holes and galaxies.

Work with Purpose: A podcast about the Australian Public Service.
The critically important relationship between business and government in managing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a consistent theme of the Work with Purpose podcast. In this week’s episode we bring together the leaders of two organisations, one private sector, one government, who have been working in Australia’s best interests not since the beginning of the pandemic but well before.Steven Worrall is the Managing Director of Microsoft Australia. Steven joined Microsoft in March of 2014 as Director of Commercial and Public Sector markets. He previously worked for IBM for 22 years.Larry Marshall has been the CEO of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) since January 2015. CSIRO’s mission is “to solve the world's greatest challenges through innovative science and technology’’. Larry holds 20 patents and has served on 20 boards of high-tech companies operating in the United States, Australia, and China. In this week’s episode which was recorded during Science Week, Steven and Larry discuss the similarities in each others' missions and how their teams are working together in the best interests of the Australian community.Discussed in this episode: - The importance and the role of business and government working together- The importance of digital literacy- The Microsoft and CSIRO collaboration - Developing a vaccine - ‘’Team Australias'’’ resilience in a post COVID-19 environment See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
My guest today is a rarified drummer that can vacillate effortlessly between the studio and a live setting. It's not your typical live musical setting. Often there are beatniks and lifers who come to the shows to grab the essence of the live music experience. The one were time and place seem to stand still as even those with anticipatory tendencies are hanging on every note, lyric and fate. Doing this in Casino's and Community Colleges and renovated Cathedrals and Roller Rinks. Flying from LA to SF for a weekend at the Keystone in Palo Alto or the Paramount Theatre in Seattle....then it's back to the studio..... Playing gospel sessions with Michael Omartian swinging the band on a White Horse, always trying to drive the music forward, studying and trusting. Other sessions follow pre click track with Kinky Friedman, live touring with Brian Garofalo and Joan Armitrade and like Ed Greene and Ndugu Chancler, Jim Keltner, Earl Palmer and James Gadson he knew how to hold it down in all music because he came up not knowing anything about anybody else. He met people in person connected musically. The lack of interconnection made it so that if you were hip to music you kept seeing the same cats. No emails or texts or tweets just the human connection- con alma. 2nd Chapter Acts or Linda Ronstadt or Larry Marshall. PART II There's no way for me to formally communicate with Jerry Garcia and John Kahn. They got up and exited this planet quite some time ago. In 1982 The Jerry Garcia Band was looking to find a steady date. Kreutzman was filling in and so was Errico but they wanted someone a little more permanent. Who's the hot guy in town Kahn asks to Michael Stewart. Why don't you look into my guest Stewart replies. He's busy. But still able to fly to Keystone Palo Alto where the irascible Steve Parrish is there to greet him with a Russian Lullaby and the best sounding drums this side of Kat Man Du: My guest held the drum chair with The Jerry Garcia Band for 10 years. A period of time that featured missions in the rain and slouching towards Gomorrah, appearances and roller rinks in E. Setauket NY and 24 minute Shining Stars to younger audiences whose brains were addled with potent marijuana and psychedelia. His drumming style is contagious and his connection with Garcia and Kahn is evident when there might be a lull my guest picks it up with some White Horse gallop that perks up Jerry and there is instant unanimity on stage. He joined the band at the height of Jerry's drug addiction....some might say he would rather be high than on stage playing. My guest can attest to the fact that even in this precoma period Jerry gave it his all and enjoyed challenges from band mates....if you were going to challenge him you better be ready to get pushed back on....my guest did that time and time again until he got that call from the aforementioned Parish about where he wanted his drums sent. As quickly as the liftoff was was as abrupt as the landing. But my guest just dusted himself off and continued on with Bob Dylan. Señor David Kemper welcome back to the Jake Feinberg Show.... --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jake-feinberg/support

This week's guest is Larry Marshall, a fantastic wedding filmmaker based in Indianapolis, IN. Larry has been filming weddings for 5 years and has been a 1st and 2nd Assistant Camera (AC) for feature films, short films, and commercials since 2009. In this conversation we nerd out and discuss a ton of great stuff, including how we got started in video, the filmmakers who inspired us when starting out, Larry's adventures using Canon, Sony and Panasonic cameras over the years and even share some thoughts on the future of wedding filmmaking. Those of you who know me are well aware that I love the technical side of things, but honestly it's rare that I'm able to have conversations with people who share that passion equally to me. Well Larry and I learned quickly that we have A LOT in common and thoroughly enjoyed nerding out over the course of this conversation talking all about wedding filmmaking. Dennis Brown - Out Of The Funk Edit By Petko Turner Dennis Brown was born on 1 February 1957 at Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. His father Arthur was a scriptwriter, actor, and journalist, and he grew up in a large tenement yard between North Street and King Street in Kingston with his parents, three elder brothers and a sister, although his mother died in the 1960s. He began his singing career at the age of nine, while still at junior school, with an end-of-term concert the first time he performed in public, although he had been keen on music from an even earlier age, and as a youngster was a keen fan of American balladeers such as Brook Benton, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. He cited Nat King Cole as one of his greatest early influences. He regularly hung around JJ's record store on Orange Street in the rocksteady era and his relatives and neighbours would often throw Brown pennies to hear him sing in their yard. Brown's first professional appearance came at the age of eleven, when he visited a local club where his brother Basil was performing a comedy routine, and where he made a guest appearance with the club's resident group, the Fabulous Falcons (a group that included Cynthia Richards, David "Scotty" Scott, and Noel Brown). On the strength of this performance he was asked to join the group as a featured vocalist. When the group performed at a JLP conference at the National Arena, Brown sang two songs - Desmond Dekker's "Unity" and Johnnie Taylor's "Ain't That Loving You" - and after the audience showered the stage with money, he was able to buy his first suit with the proceeds.[4] Bandleader Byron Lee performed on the same bill, and was sufficiently impressed with Brown to book him to perform on package shows featuring visiting US artists, where he was billed as the "Boy Wonder". As a young singer Brown was influenced by older contemporaries such as Delroy Wilson (whom he later cited as the single greatest influence on his style of singing), Errol Dunkley, John Holt, Ken Boothe, and Bob Andy.[4] Brown's first recording was an original song called "Lips of Wine" for producer Derrick Harriott, but when this was not released, he recorded for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One label, and his first session yielded the single "No Man is an Island", recorded when Brown was aged twelve and released in late 1969. The single received steadily increasing airplay for almost a year before becoming a huge hit throughout Jamaica. Brown recorded up to a dozen sessions for Dodd, amounting to around thirty songs, and also worked as a backing singer on sessions by other artists, including providing harmonies along with Horace Andy and Larry Marshall on Alton Ellis's Sunday Coming album. Brown was advised by fellow Studio One artist Ellis to learn guitar to help with his songwriting, and after convincing Dodd to buy him an instrument, was taught the basics by Ellis. These Studio One recordings were collected on two albums, No Man is an Island and If I Follow my Heart (the title track penned by Alton Ellis), although Brown had left Studio One before either was released. He went on to record for several producers including Lloyd Daley ("Baby Don't Do It" and "Things in Life"), Prince Buster ("One Day Soon" and "If I Had the World"), and Phil Pratt ("Black Magic Woman", "Let Love In", and "What About the Half"), before returning to work with Derrick Harriott, recording a string of popular singles including "Silhouettes", "Concentration", "He Can't Spell", and "Musical Heatwave", with the pick of these tracks collected on the Super Reggae and Soul Hits album in 1973. Brown also recorded for Vincent "Randy" Chin ("Cheater"), Dennis Alcapone ("I Was Lonely"), and Herman Chin Loy ("It's Too Late" and "Song My Mother Used to Sing") among others, with Brown still at school at this stage of his career
