Building Business Relationships That Are Aligned with Robert McGuinness In this week's episode, Rae Irelan talks about building business relationships that are aligned with Robert McGuinness as her guest, CEO of Sole Venture LLC. It is a company that helps corporate professionals navigate their journey out of their career and into their calling without sacrificing their current family or financial needs. Part One of ‘Building Business Relationships That Are Aligned’ Robert shares how he has guided people out of their corporate jobs into their soul calling. "My whole life, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I grew up having two opposite ends of my family. My father's side was very religious, and my mother's side was first-generation from Jordan in the Middle East. Almost all my uncles who got married to my mom's sisters were all entrepreneurs. I spent a lot of time around these people until I got influenced and have envisioned myself to be an entrepreneur one day. In the past, I went into business for the wrong reasons. It wasn't really from a place of service. I had lost a lot of money, so I came to the point where I had to support myself. I know I'm meant to do something greater, but I did it the wrong way. I ended up getting a job in New York related to technology sales. I did well, but whenever I would come to work, I would feel this tightness in my chest. I struggled with anxiety, thinking if that's the place where I belong. I asked myself how I could get out of my career and into my calling. So, that's when I kind of went into a journey of self-discovery." “I’ve always felt like I’m meant to do something bigger as an entrepreneur.” – Robert McGuinness (04:18-04:21) Over the past years, I've worked with the top psychologists and spiritual experts to uncover and unravel this conversation around alignment, calling, and soul's purpose. And as I further discovered what that meant, I was going through this process of making it happen for myself. Along the way, I've uncovered this map that consists of three-stage journeys. I used this map to help myself and my clients navigate their journey out of their career and into their calling.  Rae brings up a fascinating question, "In your journey to becoming the entrepreneur that serves people, how have you utilized business relationships to grow other people's business?"   Robert says, "What I believe to be true is that our environment and our relationships, in general, affirm to us our identity. It's anchoring inside of us. We're learning to trust ourselves. The more I've created an environment that doesn't just see me for who I am, but also for whom I want to be, then I'm going to a higher level, and there's a stronger bond that forms into our business relationships. If we are operating with poor energy, we might also attract other people that have poor energy. But when you have rich energy and rich thoughts, then you get to attract the same group of people that are doing the same. There were moments when I had to let go of certain people in my life and make room for new people to come in. That's one of the difficult aspects of personal growth."   It’s just like looking at your credit card statement to see where you spent your time, your money, where you’re exchanging energy and where you’re aligning yourself.   Robert shares what the most difficult things are when it comes to business relationships and how we can overcome them. "I've learned from a coach that I was receiving leadership from, is that there are three buckets of people you should have in your life that are going to support your mission. The first B is the people behind you. The second B is the people beside you. The third B is the people ahead of you. We do this exercise together, where we list our top 10 to 25 relationships in their life. We categorize them in the buckets and evaluate where these people are spending most of their time. Are they spending most of their time behind them, beside them or in front of them? But if they were to spend the same amount of time with people in front of them, those people would probably pull them forward a little bit."   Part Two of ‘Building Business Relationships That Are Aligned’ Robert continues to share a piece of reliable information about building business relationships.  "I think there's a huge conversation around enrollment. If you have a mentor or someone you're looking up to or someone you know that's ahead of you; you want to get them enrolled in your vision. You want them to understand what you're wanting and why you want it. You want to help them see the vision of where you're going and why they're enrolled. Then they're going to be more than happy to support you. If you can't necessarily meet them on a business level, how can you meet them on a human level? It takes courage to introduce yourself and put yourself out there and get in connection and rapport with people. But when you do, what happens is, you're also affirming your identity, right? I used to totally like starry-eyed around certain people that were crushing it. And I'd have this celebrity feel and what I uncovered about what that meant for myself. I was like giving my power away. I can still recognize someone as being ahead of me without giving my power away and being in my sovereignty. Even though they're ahead of me, I can still feel whole in myself. That's what I believe the game of the business is. I believe it's a game of wholeness. It's a game of us returning home to experience our completeness. I value alignment. I value synergy. I value resonance. I want to co-create with someone that I have a soulful resonance with, which almost feels like destiny. Like we were, we were meant to like to be together. The definition for myself of success isn't about money. It isn't about the material things. But it's about how aligned I can truly be to myself. The more that I am aligned to myself, the more that stuff comes."  “Aligned business relationships help you get creative ideas quicker.” – Rae Irelan (20:31-20:50) Rae shares her perspective about aligned business relationships. She says, "I love talking about things that are hard to kind of put words to. Do you feel like your heart is open? Do you feel like you get creative ideas quicker? I know when business relationships are aligned because all of a sudden, it's like this ping pong ball that is going back and forth. We're playing a game, and I don't feel like I'm the only one swinging, or I don't feel like I'm just having balls thrown at me. So, figuring out that energy of dance and it's super fun when you can bring this into your professional life because it's almost like this friction that gets passed between a group of people. And I'm sure you probably witnessed it in the corporate space and your clients."
