In this deeply honest and moving episode, I sit down with Rachel Powell — widow, remarried wife, mother of a "super blended" family, and founder of Hope Speaker — to talk about the messy, complicated, and ultimately hope-filled path she's walked since losing her husband.Rachel shares the story of meeting her late husband Andre in high school youth group, building a life together that included raising four children (three nieces and nephews plus their biological daughter), and the devastating final year of their marriage marked by addiction, undiagnosed mental health struggles, and abuse — before losing him to suicide in June 2019.She opens up candidly about the darkest chapter that followed: navigating single parenthood during the COVID pandemic, wrestling with guilt and shame, surviving two suicide attempts of her own, and the pivotal turning point that led her to prioritize her own healing. Rachel discusses:~the tools that helped her rebuild, including the Grief Recovery Method~holistic approaches to healing body, mind, and spirit~vagus nerve regulation work~her journey into remarriage — meeting her husband Mike online, navigating a cross-state relationship, and blending their families~encouragement for widows considering dating again. She closes with a powerful reminder: today's reality is not your forever reality!Rachel also speaks to the urgent, under-resourced needs of the widowed community, sharing striking statistics about how little nonprofit support exists for the 11.6 million widows in the U.S., and the work she's doing through her coaching practice and the Hope Stronghold community to change that. This episode is a raw, faith-centered conversation about grief, resilience, and finding purpose on the other side of unimaginable loss.Connect with Rachel: hopespeaker.com | hopespeaker.com/coaching The community: hopestronghold.comA note: this episode discusses suicide loss and suicidal ideation in detail. Something I've been thinking about a fair bit this week is how my relationship with Tom's music has changed over the years that I've been doing the show now. The very short answer to this is I've come to regard him as one of the truly great songwriters in history. Over time, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers has rocketed up my list of, not just favourite bands, but bands I would put head to head against any of the best rock n roll bands of all time. The day this episode comes out, will be one day after the fifth anniversary of the show so I wanted to do a little retrospective and put out a shorter episode where I can reflect on the journey so far.Don't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Follow: https://linktr.ee/tompettyprojectListen: https://pod.link/1580769475All music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. Ep 252 One World in a New World with Colin SmithWhat if listening could change the world? In this thoughtful episode of One World in a New World, Zen Benefiel welcomes Colin Smith, founder of Dexterity Solutions and widely known as "The Listener." Together they explore why genuine listening is far more than hearing words—it's an act of presence that creates trust, belonging, clarity, and transformation.Drawing from decades of experience in leadership, coaching, customer service, and volunteer work with the Samaritans, Colin explains how simply creating a safe space for another person often allows them to solve their own challenges. Rather than fixing problems, true listening invites deeper thinking, emotional safety, and authentic human connection. The conversation expands into consciousness, intuition, curiosity, silence, AI, personal sovereignty, the Friendship Bench community, and humanity's collective awakening. Together, Zen and Colin explore how slowing down, asking better questions, and becoming fully present may be among the most powerful leadership skills of our time.Whether you're a leader, coach, entrepreneur, educator, counselor, or simply someone seeking richer relationships, this conversation offers timeless wisdom for living—and listening—with greater intention.Questions This Episode ExploresWhy do so few people truly listen? What happens when someone finally feels heard? Can listening become a spiritual practice? How does silence deepen connection? Why do people solve their own problems when given space? What role does curiosity play in leadership? How do we create psychological safety? Why is presence more powerful than advice? What changed about human connection after COVID?How can AI support—not replace—human wisdom?Connect with Colin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/colindsmith1/Colin's Website: https://dexteritysolutions.co.uk/#ColinSmith #ActiveListening #Leadership #EmotionalIntelligence #Communication #ConsciousLeadership #OneWorldinaNewWorldJoin this channel to get access to perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuZl_29zHxehqeL89KSCWFA/join__________Coherence Engine - https://AIUniversalEngine.comA different view of reality: https://youtu.be/uhhWJhwEtX8

Included on one of the discs in the Running Down a Dream documentary by Peter Bogdanovic, the release has been widely circulated in many bootleg forms and I think we're long overdue a re-release! Wouldn't it be great to have this upscaled to 4K and remastered. Heck, I'd even love a double vinyl release of this one for my collection. It's a band at the top of their game, with absolutely nothing to lose, playing to a packed house of fans, friends, and family, that was captured for posterity, without overdubs, and stands up as one of the great Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performances. I remember when I watched the Running Down a Dream documentary for the first time not realizing that this concert footage was included and being blown away by just how tight this band was. I go back to it often, as I'm sure many of you do, and just enjoy watching Tom being so relaxed and confident, backed by his friends, who happen to be one of the best bands of all time. "MK Confidential" enters the gilded world of Claus and Sunny von Bülow, a marriage of extraordinary wealth that would become the center of one of the most sensational attempted-murder cases of the twentieth century. In December 1980, Sunny is found unconscious on the freezing marble floor of her bathroom at Clarendon Court, the family's Newport mansion. Doctors revive her, but she never regains consciousness. And the collapse is eerily familiar. Almost exactly one year earlier, over the very same Christmas holiday, Sunny had slipped into another unexplained coma in the same house. Megyn Kelly traces the troubled marriage behind the wrought-iron gates: Sunny's enormous fortune, Claus's affair with another woman, and a prenuptial agreement that would leave him with almost nothing in a divorce vs. a will that would leave him millions if she died. At the center of it is the devoted maid who finds a mysterious black bag in Claus's closet, its contents growing stranger each time, until the day it holds insulin and syringes no doctor ever prescribed. When Sunny's children begin to suspect their stepfather, they launch a secret investigation that leads to evidence they believe could prove Claus tried to murder their mother. Ten years on, jD sits down with three fans who were there the night the Tragically Hip played Vancouver on the Man Machine Poem tour — the second stop of Gord Downie's final run across Canada. Tina, Joe, and Shaun walk through the whole arc of that evening: the scramble for tickets when floor seats and Ticketmaster luck meant everything, the electric-but-apprehensive mood in the building as everyone wondered how Gord would hold up, and the moment his shaking hand during "Three Pistols" turned nerves into relief. The conversation ranges from the emotional gut-punches — "Grace, Too," "Bobcaygeon," "Tired as Fuck," and "At Transformation" — to the craft behind the show: the band huddling close around Gord like a bar band again, the retrospective set lists that pulled from nearly half their catalog, and the stripped-down staging that only fully landed watching the final concert on TV. “I was doing fine on my own, selling from my own website privately, and right at the same time Tom Petty contacted me and told me he'd been secretly collecting my work, and wanted me to design an album cover for him. He and his wife have 6 paintings or so.”Robert Deyber never became a household name in the manner of Dalí or Warhol, but within contemporary gallery circles he developed an exceptionally loyal following who appreciated that his paintings were technically accomplished, immediately understandable, and humorous without being superficial. Thousands of private collectors acquired his paintings and limited editions, including other notable figures from the entertainment industry.Links and sources from this episodeIn the Studio : https://youtu.be/gnvkPiQ7fYY Bellevue Reporter interview : https://www.bellevuereporter.com/2009/02/08/artist-robert-deyber-plays-on-words/ Unlocking Connecticut interview : https://unlockingconnecticut.com/2016/09/artist-robert-deyber/ Artsy interview : https://www.artsy.net/article/martin-lawrence-galleries-robert-deyber Profile on the Martin Lawrence Galleries website : https://martinlawrence.com/collections/robert-deyber Don't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Follow: https://linktr.ee/tompettyprojectListen: https://pod.link/1580769475All music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. On a quiet spring afternoon in 2015, retired IT engineer and lifelong Harley rider Stephen Weber never imagined a ride to a Hamptons barbecue joint would end with him airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, his heart momentarily stopped. What followed was a three-week coma and a near-death experience so vivid his own physician called his chart an autopsy report. But for Weber, the real story was what came next: a timeless realm he calls "the place between here and there." It was the first lesson in an NDE that would rewire everything he thought he knew about existence. What unfolded next was a recursive, aching life review — Weber reliving his own history again and again, each pass peeling back another layer, until his most painful memories became his most peaceful ones. He stood before his higher self and realized he wasn't there to teach a lesson but to learn one — that souls prepare for incarnation, that spirit never truly begins or ends. In the experience's final scene, he sat at a sunlit bluff with two old friends, only to realize they had already died — they'd come simply to check on him. When he opened his eyes, his mother was gripping his hand in a hospital room. Physicist Jenny Wagner joins us, asking not whether dark matter is possible but whether it is necessary, whether the missing mass was ever missing or only misplaced inside the models we carried in before we looked up. She works the inverse problem of gravitational lensing the way a person works a locked door in the dark, feeling for what the data actually says against what the assumptions quietly whisper, until the cosmological constant, dark energy, and the whole dark sector start to look less like discoveries and more like scaffolding we forgot was scaffolding. From Zwicky and the Coma cluster to MOND and the Bullet cluster, she traces how a pragmatic guess hardened into orthodoxy, and how general relativity alone might carry more of the weight than anyone budgeted for. Cosmology as it should be done, grounded in what the sky gives us and honest about what it withholds.Jenny's blog: https://thegravitygrinch.blogspot.com/PATREON https://www.patreon.com/c/demystifysciPARADOX LOST PRE-SALE: https://buy.stripe.com/7sY7sKdoN5d29eUdYddEs0bHOMEBREW MUSIC - Check out our new album!Hard Copies (Vinyl): FREE SHIPPING https://demystifysci-shop.fourthwall.com/products/vinyl-lp-secretary-of-nature-everything-is-so-good-hereStreaming:https://secretaryofnature.bandcamp.com/album/everything-is-so-good-herePARADIGM DRIFThttps://demystifysci.com/paradigm-drift-show00:00 Go! Leading into the last verse, there's some back masked, slightly distorted guitar, again over that suspended fourth chord before the arrangement drops back to let Bridgers' voice really punch home the line “Now the wind is high and the rain is heavy and the water's rising in the levee”. I talk lots on the show about “moments” in songs and THIS is the moment in this song for me. The slight tremolo added to the vocal on the words water's rising and how she pushes her vocal forward more and gives it more oxygen, really punctuate this sense of being completely overwhelmed by emotion that is being metaphorically expressed. The series, talking about other people's interpretations of Tom's songs will be limited to a specific criteria. I want to listen to and comment on covers that take the songs into different areas. So I'm not going to touch on very straight, very faithful covers like Chris Stapleton's I Should Have Known It. These episodes will be limited to artists who change, adapt, or inhabit Tom's music and make it their own in some way. I'll also be putting a call out to all you listeners to recommend covers that fit the criteria!Song : https://youtu.be/CDOaIcgUVEc Live from Toronto in 2018 : https://youtu.be/UuVJFVszo-4 Original : https://youtu.be/mVEXkLht6hQ Don't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Follow: https://linktr.ee/tompettyprojectListen: https://pod.link/1580769475All music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. The businesses that speak directly to their concerns may be able to reach a large, underserved market with relatively little competition.Key TakeawayYou do not have to personally agree with every decision your clients make.Your role is to meet people where they are, understand the challenges they are facing, and provide the support they need to become healthier, stronger, and more capable.GLP-1 usage is not going away. Cardiologists spend their careers talking about cholesterol. On this episode, I wanted to go one level deeper, down to the cell membrane, because that's where heart health is really decided. Justine Stenger has spent years studying phospholipids like phosphatidylcholine, the fats that build the membranes wrapping every one of your cells and your mitochondria. We talk about why the membrane, not the nucleus, acts as the brain of the cell, and how cholesterol fits into that picture as a helper rather than a villain. Justine walks through how a phospholipid shortage may push the liver to make more cholesterol to repair membrane damage, why our modern toxic load makes that shortage so common, and what food, oral, and clinical approaches she looks at to support cellular repair. We also cover the lab markers you can track over time, from cholesterol and triglycerides to homocysteine, so this stays practical, not just theoretical.- - - - -About the Guest:Justine Stenger is a cellular-health educator and the Lead Educator at BodyBio, where she teaches practitioners and patients about phospholipids, fatty acids, and mitochondrial health.
