Horses have been part of our lives for millennia, helping us plow fields and transporting us to everything from errands to parties to war. And they have ignited our imaginations.Their presence, their grace, that connection we have with them - what is that? They live on grass. And while we have needed them, they don't need us.  Yet, at a time when they are no longer needed for practical purposes, there are still 110-120 million horses in the world today. Why is that?  And why have they decided to be part of our lives? Are they part of our spiritual evolution? Do they have wisdom for us that can change the way we show up in the world? We think they do. Horses show up without vanity or agenda and can see into the depths of our being. That can be intimidating. In this special Reiki Share and podcast episode, I'm joined by the co-creators of the Horse Wisdom Card Deck — collaborators and artists, Helen Michaels and Joe Ann Kent — as we pull back the curtain on the creation of this deeply transformational deck.Together, we explore:How the horses guided the creation of the deckThe spiritual nature of horses and leadershipThe Divine Feminine and how it is ready to come forwardThe deeper meanings behind some of the cardsHow Reiki, intuition, and animal communication shaped the processWhy this deck arrived nowWhat the horses may be trying to teach humanity in this momentWe also drew cards live during the episode for the messages for our listeners and community.  And we will ask for your input - once you experience the energy of the deck - on the name of the deck.If you are ready to dive into deeper authenticity, authority, intuition, healing, and connection - join us, and gather with the wisdom of the herd.______Pam Allen-LeBlanc is a scientist, businesswoman, and Licensed Reiki Master Teacher (LRMT) with the International Center for Reiki Training.Get in Touch with Pam:pam@reikifromthefarm.comwww.reikifromthefarm.comA special thanks goes out to Music from Pixabay for the intro music and to Nate Miller for the meditation music. Register for our newsletter! InstagramFacebookYoutube pam@reikifromthefarm.com

Frank and Jay reconvene a week after the Spring Fling to debrief the prime rib, the perfectly timed thunderstorm, and the InBody machine that exposed Frank's visceral fat number. Jay walks through why subcutaneous fat is largely cosmetic, why visceral fat is the real metabolic concern, and why intermittent fasting plus protein pacing beats simple caloric restriction. Then the brain section gets weird. Listener emails arrive about Foreign Accent Syndrome: a 70 year old American who started speaking with a Norwegian accent before dying of a brain tumor, a Massachusetts stroke patient who woke up sounding like she was from Oslo. Frank pulls up Cotard's, the walking corpse syndrome where the sufferer is unshakably convinced they are dead and putrefying, and Capgras, where loved ones become identical imposters. A coma survivor writes in about six weeks of demons in his peripheral vision after a ten day medically induced blackout. The second hour pivots to the America 250 concert collapse. Brett Michaels, Martina McBride, Milli Vanilli, and the Commodores pulled out, so Frank and Jay reopen the lines and book a better lineup live on air, decade by decade, with the help of callers.

Marcus Aurelius Anderson sits down with Dr. Grace Firestone, a family medicine physician, athlete, and cardiac arrest survivor. Dr. Firestone shares the story of collapsing at 18 years old, spending 10 days in the ICU, and waking up with documented brain injury and compromised heart function. Rather than accepting the limitations placed on her, she pushed forward into college, medical school, and competitive bodybuilding. This conversation covers her early drive rooted in gratitude, the mindset she developed through adversity, her philosophy of practicing what she preaches as a physician, and her work with legendary trainer Charles Glass. Episode Highlights: 0:05 – Dr. Firestone explains why switching to 6:00 AM training at Gold's Gym transformed her efficiency as both an athlete and a physician. 4:22 – She shares the origin of her drive, tracing it back to gratitude, financial aid, and a high school nonprofit she founded called Let the Kids Play. 6:14 – Dr. Firestone recounts the night she suffered sudden cardiac arrest at 18, the CPR her brother performed, the AED shocks, the medically induced coma, and waking up uncertain of her cognitive future. 27:58 – She describes her decision to climb Mount Kilimanjaro despite her defibrillator and medical uncertainty, writing in her journal that she might die on the mountain, and what reaching Uhuru Peak meant for her identity going forward. Dr. Grace Firestone is a board-eligible family medicine physician practicing at UCLA Santa Monica. A cardiac arrest survivor at 18, she rebuilt her life through cognitive therapy, collegiate athletics, and medical training. She specializes in nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle medicine, and trains under world-renowned bodybuilding coach Charles Glass in competitive bodybuilding. To be honest, I can easily see Brian May also getting his own episode at some point! Let's talk about the lyrics to this one first. Tom goes on to say “You don't have a lot of room to write a story in a song. So you have to be economical with your lines.” and we've remarked on that on so many occasions with Tom's story songs - he usually gives us brief flashes of narrative before either zooming out, changing the POV or switching to a characters thoughts rather than their actions. This one is a pretty tight, compact three act play though and Tom's economy works really well.Song : https://youtu.be/OGWiNlHXiYQADDITIONAL LINKSJudge Timbers' tutorial: https://youtu.be/PwACALHy878Don't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Follow: https://linktr.ee/tompettyprojectListen: https://pod.link/1580769475All music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. Send us Fan Mailbookclues.com. Connect. You Visited Me.  Grace and Healing in the Modern Medical CenterBy Dr Robert Collins, MD            Ignatius Press    ignatius.comA cancer doctor who lives by evidence and protocols tells a story that begins with an interruption he can't explain: a question, heard like a voice in a lab, that challenged the idea that reality is only matter and chance. Dr. Robert Collins joins us to talk about his work in leukemia and lymphoma care, his journey from teenage skepticism to Christianity and Catholicism, and why he now sees hope as something sturdier than optimism. If you've ever searched for faith and medicine, prayer and healing, or what “whole person care” really means in a hospital, this conversation meets you right where you are. We dig into what medicine is actually for, beyond fixing organs and chasing numbers. Dr. Collins explains healing as restoring wholeness, which means treating a patient as a person with relationships, fear, responsibilities, and a spiritual life that shapes how they face illness. He shares how prayer functions in his daily routine and in clinical practice, from quick hallway prayers before entering a room to the rare moments when he prays with a patient, always rooted in presence rather than performance. Then we go to the hard ground: miracles and suffering. Dr. Collins offers a wider definition of miracle that includes the quiet work of grace, timely words, and the mysterious overlap of the spiritual and the material. We also wrestle with the question everyone asks sooner or later, why a good God allows suffering, without turning it into bullet points. A patient story of redemptive suffering and a son drawn back to faith shows how love can gather around a person at the end of life.

Send us Fan MailContact us at www.SeniorLiving.comA fall, an unexpected hospital stay, and suddenly your family is making life-changing decisions with a clock ticking in the background. We sit down with Lisa and Paul Marsh from Senior Aid, senior living expert Deanna Allen, and Kelly Denny to cut through the noise around Medicaid planning, long-term care, and the real steps families can take before hospital discharge turns into an expensive scramble. If you have aging parents or you're planning for your own future, this conversation is designed to replace panic with a clear path forward. We get specific about the biggest misconception we see everywhere: people assume Medicare will pay for long-term care. We explain why long-term Medicaid is often the primary payer for ongoing support, why it is not limited to “the poverty line,” and why the process can take months if you wait until a crisis. Lisa shares what she wishes she had known earlier about eligibility, planning, and the uncomfortable but critical step of understanding exactly where Mom or Dad's money is and how it's structured. We also dig into waiver programs and what families should listen for when they hear the word “waiver,” including Utah's New Choices Waiver as an example of how state-by-state rules can change the best strategy. Then we shift to the real estate side: how to sell a parent's home without getting trapped by delays, lowball offers, deed transfers, or gifting mistakes that can trigger Medicaid penalties. Finally, we address the emotional weight: guilt, stigma, and how touring modern senior living communities can change everything. Subscribe, share this with a sibling, and leave a review so more families can find the guidance they need before the next emergency hits.

Today on Cards on the Table, T-Pot, Scotty B, and Carter break down the shocking news and analyze exactly what this means for the hobby. With regular service ($79.99) now the cheapest available option, we discuss the ripple effect this will have on box prices, modern "rip and flip" strategies, and the vintage card market.Plus, we cover the rest of the week's biggest hobby news, including the record-breaking $5.11 million private sale of the Victor Wembanyama Prizm Black 1/1 (the "Black Curtain"), and the ongoing packaging issues with eBay's Authenticity Guarantee program. In this episode, we discuss:The PSA Shutdown: Analyzing the 10-million-card backlog driven by the explosive growth of TCGs (Pokémon and One Piece). We discuss whether PSA's massive expansion will actually solve the issue, how this completely neutralizes the value of the Collectors Club membership, and if alternative grading companies like Beckett, SGC, and CGC can handle the overflow.SGC's Dwindling Market Share: Why SGC's volume is down 70% year-over-year, and what Collectors' acquisition means for the future of the "Tuxedo" slab and the vintage market.Wemby's $5.1 Million Record: The 2023 Panini Prizm Victor Wembanyama Black 1/1 just sold privately for $5.11 million. We compare this massive sale to the Aaron Judge Superfractor Auto, debate if the NBA market is overhyped compared to baseball, and touch on the controversy surrounding the use of Kurt's Card Care prior to the card's grading.eBay Authenticity Flaws: Why are high-end raw cards arriving from the eBay Authenticity Guarantee program sliding out of their semi-rigid holders? We debate simple fixes and why the program is still a massive net positive for the hobby despite packaging flaws. How do you think PSA's shutdown of value submissions will impact the sports card market over the next 12 months? This episode is a gentle one. It is about grief, about the body, about what happens when the path you imagined does not unfold the way you hoped, and about where you can find peace when words are not enough.I am joined by Ellen Mary Webster, horticulturalist, floral designer, author and host of the award-winning Plant Based Podcast. Ellen navigated a decade-long fertility journey that included a near-fatal ruptured ectopic pregnancy, a diagnosis of severe endometriosis, three rounds of IVF and ultimately a hysterectomy in her early 30s. Throughout all of it, she turned to her garden. And in this conversation she explains why that was not just a coping mechanism but a genuine form of healing.Whether you have a large garden, a windowsill, a balcony or just a park nearby, this episode will make you want to go outside.Content note: This episode includes discussion of ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy loss, endometriosis, IVF, hysterectomy and involuntary childlessness. What we discuss in this episode:Ellen's decade-long fertility journey: from ectopic pregnancy to endometriosis diagnosis to IVF to hysterectomyThe ruptured ectopic pregnancy that nearly cost Ellen her life and the eight hours of dismissal that preceded emergency surgeryThe health anxiety that stayed long after the physical recoveryWhy gardening became Ellen's constant throughout all of it, from the very first loss to the weeks recovering from a hysterectomyWhat it means to garden for process rather than outcome and why that mindset maps directly onto a fertility journeyThe science behind soil: why getting your hands in the dirt genuinely affects your brain chemistryWhy just seeing a flower can momentarily shift your mental state even when you are in deep griefForest bathing: what it actually is, what the Japanese have known for centuries, and how 40 minutes among trees can reduce anxiety and increase natural killer cellsHow to do forest bathing on your own and why walking slowly with intention is where to startWhat Ellen did during the five weeks she could not garden after her hysterectomy and what sitting still in her garden taught herThe anger and the unfairness of watching friends fall pregnant and how Ellen processed that over timeWhy you do not need to be a gardener for nature to help you: one plant, a garden centre coffee and a short walk all countThe fertility journey and what it taught Ellen about the miracle of lifeEllen's wellness retreats, forest bathing sessions and what a day or weekend immersed in nature can offerEllen's invitation to anyone who feels like this will not work for themWe are not separate from nature. We are part of it. And we have just become so far detached from it that we have forgotten that going outside, even briefly, even reluctantly, is going to make you feel a little better. Start with one plant. Go to the garden centre. Get a coffee and a piece of cake. Buy the one plant you like and try to nurture it. That is enough.About Ellen Mary WebsterEllen Mary Webster is a horticulturalist, floral designer, author and wellness retreat host. She is the author of The Joy of Gardening and How to Grow a Garden, and the host of the award-winning Plant Based Podcast. As of 21 May they were no longer accepting new requests for direct support. We've talked a few times this season about the fact that the album wasn't finished when Tom played the songs for Paul Zollo. In the book, he tells Paul, “I still haven't figured out where to put it in the sequence. Right now I have it at the end, but I don't think it's the perfect ending.” Earlier, he says “That was written in the middle of all the other things” and I wonder if he hadn't written The Golden Rose at this point, because that's the obvious album closer. Dr. John explains psychological blind spots drawing on organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich's research that while most people believe they're self-aware, only 12–15% actually are. He distinguishes internal self-awareness (knowing your values, emotions, motivations) from external self-awareness (knowing how others experience you), noting they aren't strongly correlated and blind spots live in the gap. He outlines why blind spots persist—self-protection, threat-based defensiveness, and success masking dysfunction—then offers a practical process: choose 2–5 honest, non-dependent “mirrors,” ask specific stress-and-conflict questions, listen without defending, look for repeated patterns, and separate intent from impact. He emphasizes emotional regulation and turning blind spots into growth edges through naming, tracking, and small behavioral experiments, and introduces Proximity Coaching (live biweekly groups plus an always available AI coach) before concluding that real self-awareness includes knowing how you make others feel.00:52 Self Awareness Myth01:59 Two Types Awareness03:32 Why Blind Spots Happen05:16 Common Blind Spot Examples06:05 Ask What Not Why07:10 Find The Right Mirror08:38 Spot Patterns And Impact09:33 Regulate Emotions For Feedback10:10 Turn Insight Into Change11:47 Why It Matters12:10 Proximity Coaching Offer14:38 Final TakeawaysFor Fewer Regrets and Greater Connection? This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit thetwelfthhouse.substack.comA lot of what we've talked about at Holisticism and The Twelfth House over the last five years pertains to how to create systems, and about how those systems (or lack thereof) influence our personal information worlds. So often the major problems we face as creative entrepreneurs and makers — burnout, overwhelm, unceasing existential dread — are foregrounded by the way we consume and create knowledge. It's so boring to talk about, but I think we can all agree that there's an ideal consume:create ratio that allows us to take in new information, get inspired, and transmute that new knowledge into something that's our own. But getting to that ideal consumption-creation balance is easier said than done in a world where you're constantly pelleted with Cocomelon-level high stimulation content.Today — per reader request! — I wanted to explore strategies for reading to retain information, because all of us need to do research for one reason or another. If you've ever looked up from a book only to realize you have no idea what you just spent the last 20 minutes reading; if you've ever lost yourself in a scroll hole while “researching” for work; if you've ever struggled to articulate to your partner what, exactly, was so interesting about that article from The New Yorker that you just read… this guide is for you.Or, if you're just someone who identifies as a life-long learner and wants to make research a more satisfying hobby, read on.To retain, or not to retainFirst and foremost, why do you need to retain information when you read? Or, maybe, when do you need to retain information?I don't find the need to retain everything I read or consume; in fact, much of what I consume leaves me thinking, Damn, wish I could delete that out of my brain and reclaim some of my cognitive RAM.Personally, I am not interested in annotating a work of fiction unless I'm writing an essay about it. Fiction is my escapay. But there's a hell of a lot in the non-fiction category that I research and take in that I do want to recall later, a few reasons being:* because I'm working on a project, and I want to build upon the ideas I've already generated with new concepts I read about* because I want to participate in a conversation (literal or metaphorical) and feel informed about a topic* because I want to learn a skill or acquire new knowledge, and what I've read walks me through how to do that thing* because I want to critique or rebuttal what I've read to establish my own divergence of thoughtMaybe you identify with some of my Remember Reasons, and you likely have your own reasons for wanting to retain ideas from what you read or consume. Ultimately, I believe understanding why retaining the information is important to you — aka so what? what will you do with that information? — informs the strategies you use when reading for retention.Pre-ReadingGet your bearings

The 100-year search for dark matter began in 1922 with Dutch astronomer Jacobus Kapteyn, who was the first to use the term "dark matter" in a scientific paper. Kapteyn realized that the gravity of unseen matter must govern the motions of stars. His student, Jan Oort, later expanded on this by studying the vertical "up and down" motions of stars in the Milky Way to estimate the mass in the galactic plane. Fritz Zwicky provided a major breakthrough by observing the redshift of galaxies in the Coma cluster, concluding they moved too fast for visible mass to hold them together. Zwicky termed this missing mass "Dunkle Materie." These early pioneers identified a gravitational discrepancy—the "elephant in the universe"—that would define modern cosmology as scientists began hunting for what they could not see.
