Meet The World's Most Advanced AI Sales Team | Amanda Kahlow, Founder & CEO @ 1mind

Amanda Kahlow, Founder & CEO of 1mind, joins Sam Jacobs, AJ Bruno, and Asad Zaman to break down how an AI-powered solutions engineer named Nigel took 33% of the talk time in a two and a half hour enterprise meeting and produced a $278,000 deal. Topics include why AI aimed at efficiency gains misses real revenue impact, Amanda's prediction that marketing, sales, and customer success collapse into one function within 12 months, and why AI adoption has to be top-down instead of bottoms-up. Plus, the 15 agents running behind every superhuman, a 98% accuracy bar measured by live evals, whether agents will negotiate with other agents on the buy side, and a bulls versus bears round on Salesforce, sales dinners, and the health of the average go-to-market team. Key Takeaways: - Most go-to-market teams are pointing AI at the wrong layer. Better forecasting, faster research, and cleaner dashboards make the people you already have marginally more productive, which is not where the revenue is. As Amanda Kahlow, Founder & CEO at 1mind, framed it: "My thesis is that buying and selling happens in the conversation." Everything built around the conversation to enable a seller is, in her words, yesterday's workflow. - Trust, not novelty, is what moves an enterprise deal. Amanda flew a red-eye to Austin for a second meeting with a CPO and CMO, brought a superhuman named Nigel on screen, and watched the room turn to the AI for depth even she could not provide. As she told it, "the CPO was like, Amanda, shut up, basically. I wanna talk to Nigel." The meeting scheduled for an hour ran two and a half, and produced "a $278,000 deal from one in-person meeting going through procurement in one week". Her read on why it worked: "People say people buy from people. You buy when you trust." - The human face on an AI agent is a click-through device, not the value. Amanda's verdict after a year of selling them: "The face is a novelty." 1mind drops the face entirely on live calls because the movement distracts. The important part is the conversational AI, where "each superhuman has roughly 15 agents working behind the scenes." One handles small talk, another loads the live demo, another builds the perspective slide a human seller would normally take a week to produce. - Bottom-up AI adoption is where the value leaks out. Amanda's pushback on the idea that people who use AI will simply eat the people who do not: telling every individual to go be more efficient produces slop and no measurable gain, while the real impact, in her words, "is going to come at the top down when we think about restructuring the org". In this episode of Caregiver S.O.S. On Air, host Ron Aaron is joined by comedian, author, speaker, and educator Danny Klein-Modisett, founder of Laughter On Call. Danny shares her journey of navigating her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and how an unexpected moment of humor transformed her approach to caregiving, leading to the creation of an organization that brings comic relief and connection to seniors, family members, and professional caregivers nationwide. Main Topics Covered The Origin of Laughter On Call: How hiring a comedian to engage her mother led Danny to discover the profound impact of laughter on cognition, mood, and trust. The Science and Benefits of Laughter: How shared humor releases endorphins and dopamine, boosts oxygen intake, improves memory retention, and helps break down the sense of isolation often felt by those with dementia. Affiliative Humor vs. Misuse of Humor: Why inclusive, warm, and bonding humor builds psychological safety, whereas mockery or sarcasm shuts people down. Improv & Stand-Up Tools for Caregivers: How adopting a comedian’s mindset—learning to "reset" after a bad moment, letting go of rigid expectations, and avoiding argument through "Yes, and..." principles—prevents caregiver burnout. Connecting Through Virtual & Corporate Programs: How Laughter On Call expanded during the pandemic to offer interactive virtual workshops, corporate team-building, and workplace morale-boosting. Key Takeaways for Caregivers Laughter Builds Instant Trust: A single moment of shared, authentic laughter can lower defenses, build psychological safety, and foster trust between care recipients and caregivers. Practice the Art of the "Reset": Just like a stand-up comic who recovers after a joke flops, caregivers can benefit from letting go of rigid schedules and quickly resetting when things don't go according to plan. Meet Them Where They Are: "Knowing your audience" in caregiving means accepting the individual’s current reality rather than trying to correct them or pull them into yours. Showing Up Matters: Showing up with reasonable expectations and self-care directly impacts the care recipient’s well-being and helps mitigate caregiver depression. About Dani Dani Klein Modisett is the Founder/CEO of Laughter On Call. She is also a comedian/actor and author of the book, “ Take My Spouse, Please. ” a part-memoir, part how-to for creating shared laughter to keep your marriage happy and healthy. In a world racing toward smarter machines, empathy speakers and authors Rob Volpe and Maria Ross get curious in this limited subseries about what only humans can feel, do, and be — and why that's our greatest competitive advantage. Enjoy this limited subseries here on The Empathy Edge.Morality, Conscience, Storytelling & CommunityWhere does our sense of right and wrong actually come from? Maria and Rob trace the roots of human morality across three sources: evolutionary wiring that hardwired empathy for group survival, cultural transmission passed down through family and community, and the personal reflection that continues to shape our ethics well into adulthood. They look to Frans de Waal's research on chimps and bonobos, and to highly social species like wolves, crows, and honeybees, who enforce unwritten norms on the group. But a key distinction: animals register unfairness, while humans ruminate in moral anguish over it.By the end of the conversation, they find themselves less certain than when they started about whether humanity could ever agree on even three to five truly universal moral principles, and invite their listeners to contact us with their opinions. To access the episode transcript, go to www.TheEmpathyEdge.com and search by episode title."That's where our empathy work lies - how do you bridge that gap between your different potentially moral or ethical codes?" — Maria Ross Episode References: Frans de Waal on morality in primates, Primates and Philosophers Jonathan Haidt, The Righteous Mind: righteousmind.comPeter Singer, The Expanding CircleColler Doolittle Prize for interspecies communication: https://coller-dolittle-24.sites.tau.ac.il/ The Ezra Klein Show: Chris Rufo Thinks the Right Can Control This. Rewarding Hidden Contributions: The Future of Talent Measurement

    Bold Business Podcast

You just invested in the latest feedback tool, the best collaboration platform, the smartest productivity software. And nothing changed. Not because the tools are bad — but because you're still measuring the wrong things. You're still rewarding the visible. You're still missing the people who quietly hold your organization together. The future of work isn't about better tools. It's about measuring what actually matters. And what actually matters — reliability, leadership, attitude, the intangibles that move teams — has been invisible to your reward systems for too long. Jess Dewell talks with Jacob Chase, Founder & CEO of The INFIN, on how organizations can stop chasing innovation for innovation's sake and start measuring the human contributions that technology can't replace. Jacob has built systems that capture what traditional evaluation misses: the peer-recognized strengths that drive real organizational change. In this episode, you'll discover: Why innovative tools fail to drive change — and the real hurdle isn't the technology, it's understanding how people actually want to work. How to build feedback systems that tell you the truth — and why anonymity and safety are non-negotiable for honest insights. Why it's time to redesign your entire measurement and reward infrastructure — not just tweak the old system. How autonomy, initiative, and transparent reward systems create sustainable growth without chaos. Why real-time, continuous feedback outperforms annual reviews — and what that looks like in practice. How to measure the intangibles — leadership, reliability, attitude — that have the biggest impact on team performance. What a decentralized feedback system can capture that traditional metrics miss entirely. It is BOLD to reimagine culture and measuring formerly intangible value for all stakeholders. The organizations winning today aren't the ones with the fanciest tools. They're the ones measuring what matters. They're recognizing contributions that numbers alone can't capture. They're willing to look beyond job titles and formal roles to see who's actually driving value. They've built systems where peer recognition and transparent rewards amplify the strengths that move culture forward. The disconnect between tools and culture is growing. Companies invest heavily in platforms for feedback but still rely on outdated evaluation methods. They claim to value collaboration but reward individual achievement. They say culture matters but measure only output. That gap is costing you talent, innovation, and resilience. If your feedback systems feel disconnected from reality, if your best people aren't getting recognized for their true contributions, or if you're wondering how to measure the intangible qualities that are actually holding your team together, this conversation will reorient what's possible. —--------- If you're ready to build the kind of business that doesn't just survive uncertainty but leads through it, check out the Driving Solutions Strategic Intensive program, designed to support leadership teams through high-stakes strategic decisions.    --------------------   You can get in touch with Jess Dewell on Twitter,  LinkedIn or Red Direction website.

What if the fastest path out of exploitation isn't aid, but a paycheck? That's the premise behind Theodora Africa, a nonprofit that helps disadvantaged women in Ghana escape poverty and exploitation not through short-term assistance, but through real, paid work. Small & Gutsy host Dr. Laura Scherck Wittcoff sits down with Theodora Africa Founder and CEO Michael Podolny to trace how a business consulting trip to Ghana turned into an organization named for a 6th-century empress who rose from actress to co-ruler of the Byzantine Empire, and reshaped the systems that once judged her. Guest Michael Podolny, Founder & CEO, Theodora Africa Michael brings decades of experience coaching businesses and building professional networks in the US. He had no intention of starting a nonprofit when he traveled to Ghana through Rotary International to offer free business coaching. A chance introduction to a young woman named Mary and the discovery that her polished business plan was written by a woman surviving through sex work with no other options redirected his mission entirely. What is Theodora Africa? Theodora Africa takes a market-first approach to social impact. Instead of starting with aid or training alone, it starts with paid, in-demand work, specifically virtual assistant services for US-based solopreneurs and small businesses, and builds skills, training, and a pathway to greater independence around that income. The organization operates two connected entities: a US-based corporation that handles client billing, and a Ghana-based company that covers salaries, rent, and operating costs, with funds flowing directly from US clients to the women providing the services. Key Topics Covered The Empress Theodora connection Empress Theodora, born around 500 CE, rose from a low-status background as an actress and performer to become co-empress of the Byzantine Empire, actively shaping policy and using her position to improve protections for vulnerable women. Michael, a self-described history buff, chose the name deliberately: it's a symbolic through-line for women moving from constrained circumstances into agency and influence, and it resonated immediately with the women in the program when he shared the story with them. Mary's story Theodora Africa's origin traces back to one woman, Mary, whom Michael met while coaching small businesses in Ghana through Rotary. After a couple of meetings, Mary revealed she was a sex worker, having been left on her own as a teenager, unable to find legitimate work despite writing a genuinely strong business plan. Michael began teaching her marketing skills, newsletter tools, and connecting her to a built-in network of business contacts who owed him favors. That one relationship became the model for the entire organization. Mary is now Theodora Africa's operating manager in Ghana and sits on the board of a Rotary Club focused on ending human trafficking, with plans to become its president in 2027. Jobs first, not just training Michael is direct about what sets this model apart from many social service and anti-trafficking programs: most offer job training and placement, but placement often doesn't hold. Theodora Africa instead built its own small virtual assistant business first, so women are earning income and building real client relationships from day one, rather than being trained and released into an unsupported job market. Navigating cultural change Michael speaks candidly about the friction of building a US-style participative management culture inside a system shaped by generations of distrust, a legacy he attributes in part to the historical effects of the slave trade on West African society. He describes a period, worsened by COVID-19 fundraising collapses, when he was forced into day-to-day operations he wasn't suited for, and a crisis where staff felt he had favorites. His advisors, he says, often let him make mistakes rather than warning him in advance, believing that was the only way he'd truly learn. "Self-trafficked" and the illusion of choice Michael shares a phrase one of the women in the program used to describe her own path: "self-trafficked," the feeling of having made choices when, in reality, a lack of alternatives had made the outcome nearly inevitable. He describes this as one of the most effective forms of gaslighting, and frames Theodora Africa's economic model as a way of restoring real choice, not by preaching or condemning individual decisions, but by building better options. Scaling the model Theodora Africa currently supports five women with about 15 US-based clients, each biller earning wages that place them solidly in Ghana's middle class. New trainees go through roughly a year of training, paid throughout, before taking on their own clients, with recruitment and training handled through vetted partners like local Rotary clubs and the Muslim Family Counseling Service rather than direct outreach. Michael describes a "champion" model for expanding into new markets or regions: a US-based partner who understands a specific market's needs, paired with a local partner on the ground, tested and iterated over roughly a two-year pilot period. The organization also maintains an internal resource hub, "Theodora University," to help onboard and train new team members as tools and best practices evolve. A note on inspiration Michael describes his path into this work as something he didn't set out to do, framing it in spiritual terms as a kind of unexpected calling that reshaped his plans after arriving in Ghana with an entirely different mission in mind. In this episode of Dismantling You, I sit down with Matthew Braman, LCSW, LCSW-C, PMH-C, a paternal perinatal mental health specialist and the Founder & CEO of VERVE Psychotherapy to explore a subject that too often goes unspoken: the grief men carry through fertility struggles, pregnancy loss, and the transition into fatherhood. Matthew shares how he found his way into this work, why men's emotional experiences in the perinatal period are so easily overlooked, and what happens when partners stop truly seeing each other. We talk honestly about the distance and resentment that build when grief has nowhere to go, and why real connection asks so much more of us than we expect. From there, Matthew and I dig into the four pillars of connection and what it takes for couples to move through reproductive grief together rather than apart. We explore why so many men wait for a crisis before seeking support, how the myth of the impenetrable man keeps them isolated, and the quiet power of doing the work before things fall apart. We also cover the invisible load in partnership, the guilt that surfaces around parenting, and the practice of building internal safety in the middle of hard seasons. It is a tender, grounding conversation about showing up, asking for help, and remembering that therapy, and honesty, are for everyone.__________________________________________________

In a world racing toward smarter machines, empathy speakers and authors Rob Volpe and Maria Ross get curious in this limited subseries about what only humans can feel, do, and be — and why that's our greatest competitive advantage. Enjoy this limited subseries here on The Empathy Edge. Aspiration, Hope, Free Will & the Future-Oriented MindHumans don't just live in the present. We imagine futures that don't exist yet, then try to build them, and we do it using the same neural machinery that lets us remember our past.Maria Ross and Rob Volpe explore what psychologist Endel Tulving called mental time travel: the brain's unique ability to simulate scenarios that haven't happened using a network that overlaps almost entirely with episodic memory. We can't dream forward if we can't look back. Yet, our memories can be unreliable, causing us to build narratives around what actually happened or how it impacted us. Are we the only species who can do this? That sets up the harder question: do we actually choose, or does it just feel like we do?Finally, we discuss the difference between hope and optimism. When humans are at their best, they describe aspiration, vision, and forward motion, but humans in survival mode, who cannot access hope or aspiration, are equally human. What does that tell us about how fragile, and how earned, this superpower really is?To access the episode transcript, go to www.TheEmpathyEdge.com and search by episode title. You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?David: My superpower is seeing the gifts and the light in others.Innovation is reshaping education, and Changemaker Education is leading the charge with a bold, disruptive solution: micro schools. Rather than trying to fix large, traditional schools, micro schools embrace intimacy and personalized learning as their foundation for success.David K Richards, founder and CEO of Changemaker Education, explains that micro schools are “a redux of the one-room schoolhouse”—small schools hosting anywhere from five to 100 students. These schools nurture close relationships between educators, students, and families. “You get to know the child really well. You get to know the family really well. And now you have this small community raising your child,” David shared in today's episode. The movement aims to replace public education's “factory model,” which David describes as a system designed to batch-process students: “The system isn't broken; it's doing what it was built for.” However, some 75% of high school students today dislike their schools—a statistic that highlights the need for an alternative approach.Changemaker Education supports teachers and community leaders in launching micro schools by providing business tools, coaching, and resources. David summarized the goal: “We provide you with the business infrastructure, the marketing, the budget—all the things you need—so you can focus on your magic as an educator.” This affiliate-based framework allows schools to maintain local autonomy while tapping into a national network for resources and scalability.A powerful factor helping the micro school movement grow is the rise of state voucher programs. In 24 states, families can use education savings accounts to fund alternative schooling options, including micro schools. “In Texas, for example, the state will write you a check for $10,000,” David noted. This funding empowers educators to create transformational learning environments while keeping costs low for families.Changemaker Education is scaling rapidly, with 25 affiliated schools across 18 states and ambitious plans for growth. To accelerate their impact, the company is raising capital through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. The opportunity to invest in Changemaker Education isn't just about potential financial returns. It's about joining a movement that's rewriting the narrative of education in America and beyond. As David said, “Look what happens when you create a system where kids are loved, and adults are empowered.”tl;dr:Micro schools offer a revolutionary solution for students unhappy with traditional education systems.Changemaker Education provides tools and support for teachers and leaders to start micro schools.State voucher programs empower families to fund alternative educational options like micro schools.David's superpower, seeing the light in others, led him to empower educators like Mary Jo Fairhead.Changemaker Education's crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder fuels their mission and rapid growth. How to Develop Seeing the Light in Others As a SuperpowerDavid describes his superpower as the ability to see the gifts, strengths, and potential in others. “My superpower is seeing the gifts and the light in others.” By recognizing individuals' hidden talents and unique traits, David has helped educators and students identify their paths to success. He insists that this skill stems from cultivating self-awareness and self-love: “Once you start to see the gifts in yourself and truly love yourself…you can see the gifts that everybody has.”David shared the transformative story of Mary Jo Fairhead from South Dakota's poverty-stricken Pine Ridge Reservation. As David coached her, he uncovered her dream to start a school, helping her channel her passion into creating a successful micro school. Mary Jo's school has won prestigious funding and dramatically improved her community. “I could see there was something missing in her fulfillment. When she said she wanted to start a school, I knew we had to make it happen,” David explained.Actionable Tips to Develop This Superpower:Reflect on your own strengths, gifts, and accomplishments to cultivate self-awareness.Replace judgment with curiosity when interacting with others.Ask open-ended, meaningful questions to understand others' passions and aspirations.Practice empathetic listening to uncover hidden potential in those around you.Create opportunities or provide guidance that empowers others to act on their strengths.By following David's example and advice, you can make seeing the light in others a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileDavid K Richards (he/him):Founder & CEO, Changemaker Edu Inc.About Changemaker Edu Inc.: Join the microschool movement—whether you're a family searching for a more human, personalized approach to learning—or a visionary founder ready to run your own school, you're part of a growing movement. In episode 160 of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Dimond talks to founder and CEO of Tower 28, Amy Liu. Amy Liu says it's never been easier to start a beauty brand, but it's never been harder to stay.Since its launch in 2019, Tower 28 has become one of the industry's biggest modern success stories, however Amy tried launching three businesses prior to creating something that stuck. Amy's background is in growing beauty brands from the inside, and while we all know the industry has changed over the last couple of decades, she explains that the fundamentals have remained largely unchanged. The sales funnel is the same- it's just the levers that have evolved. When we look at the influence having shifted from print editors to digital creators, for example, it certainly feels like the barrier to success has never been lower, but it's a question of how a brand captures virality. Sure, a brand might go viral today, but how do you capture that moment and sustain it?The answer is understanding the difference between brand awareness and conversion, and it's something Amy could teach a masterclass in, having grown Tower 28 from a 3 SKU startup built for sensitive skin to a global brand carried by Sephora across multiple markets and MECCA in Australia and New Zealand. In this conversation, Amy shares how she landed on Tower 28's visual identity, the slightly unconventional way she reached out to her first round of investors, and why she feels the key to launching a successful brand is to understand your own "unfair advantage.”Read more at glowjournal.comFollow Tower 28 on Instagram @tower28beautyStay up to date with Gemma on Instagram at @gemdimond and @glow.journal, or get in touch at hello@gemkwatts.com Hosted on Acast. Power in negotiation isn't about forcing outcomes—it's about having the confidence, clarity, and self-awareness to make decisions that align with your values. In this insightful episode of The Art of Feminine Negotiation, Cindy Watson sits down with entrepreneur, executive coach, angel investor, and best-selling author Scott Abbott to explore "Redefining Power: Calm, Clarity, And The Courage To Walk Away." As the Founder & CEO of BOS-UP, Straticos, and Phase4 Investments, Scott has spent decades helping leaders build resilient businesses and make high-stakes decisions with confidence. Together, Cindy and Scott discuss why true influence comes from emotional control rather than dominance, how staying calm creates better negotiation outcomes, and why knowing when to walk away is often the greatest source of power. Whether you're negotiating in business, leadership, or life, this episode offers practical strategies to help you lead with confidence, clarity, and purpose.   Join us as we explore:   Where the negotiation actually starts? What happens when people enter negotiations without clarity? Even if they are confident. How does preparation can be more intentional in negotiation? How can it reduce emotional reactivity in negotiations, especially high stakes negotiations? How to define real power in negotiation? Enjoy this limited subseries here on The Empathy Edge.Is being vulnerable and admitting mistakes part of being human? Antonio Damasio is a professor at USC, not Vanderbilt. We apologize for any confusion.Emotion, Empathy, Vulnerability & LoveHumans feel, and we feel in ways that are layered, contradictory, and impossible to fully optimize away. Today, Maria Ross and Rob Volpe explore the full emotional range: why grief and joy aren't opposites, why vulnerability is the prerequisite for genuine connection, and why desire, longing, and love remain stubbornly resistant to logic. They discuss the Feelings Wheel as a lens for emotional nuance, consider what happens when empathy erodes entirely, and finally, they discuss the question of empathy and AI: it can simulate empathy through language, but emotion, at its deepest level, is not information processing. Listen in as they discuss feeling everything - for that is how we experience life and connect with others. To access the episode transcript, go to www.TheEmpathyEdge.com and search by episode title."I think the allure of AI for some people is that ‘I'm going to get a very objective, pragmatic, data-driven answer, devoid of emotion.' J.W. reveals the playbook behind one of the adult non-alcoholic category's earliest success stories. He explains why he bet on the sober curious trend years before it became mainstream, how direct-to-consumer sales fueled profitable growth from day one, and why relentless product refinement – not rapid expansion – has been the foundation of the brand's success.  J.W. also discusses customer acquisition, retail strategy, premium pricing and the long-term vision that's guiding Curious Elixirs as it aims to redefine how people drink socially. Show notes: 0:20: JW Wiseman, Founder & CEO, Curious Elixirs – JW shares how his experience owning bars and drinking heavily inspired him to create one of the first premium non-alcoholic cocktail brands. JW explains why Curious prioritized profitability, premium pricing and digital marketing early on, how constant product refinement and customer feedback have fueled loyalty, and why focusing on how products make consumers feel has been central to the brand's success. Let's figure this out.Nicole Whalen, founder of Green Compass, is revolutionizing urban sustainability by tackling one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions: buildings. During today's episode, Nicole explained how her company uses an innovative approach to retrofit commercial properties in Washington, D.C., turning asphalt-covered cities into vibrant green spaces.“At least 70% of the city's emissions come from the building sector,” Nicole shared. “Green Compass retrofits them to be no and low carbon, combining clean energy and clean water solutions.”The standout feature of Green Compass's work is its emphasis on green stormwater infrastructure. Nicole's team installs rain gardens, infiltration trenches, and tree canopies to manage runoff water naturally. Their proprietary stormwater retention credit system incentivizes property owners to adopt greener systems by creating financial rewards for reducing pollution and preventing floods.Nicole offered a glimpse into her process: “We excavate very large holes and backfill them with special sand, soil, and native plants. This captures rain where it falls, preventing it from running off hard surfaces into rivers without treatment.” These systems don't just mitigate water pollution and flooding—they're living, carbon-sequestering ecosystems. The visual transformation of once drab, urban parking lots into vibrant green spaces is a key motivator for the team. Nicole explained, “It's amazing when we replace asphalt with gardens that bloom with flowers like irises. These changes improve not just the environment but community aesthetics.”Green Compass's accomplishments extend beyond environmental impact. By selling over $1 million in stormwater retention credits, the company has proven the viability of its business model. Nicole is currently raising capital via a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit to expand Green Compass's groundbreaking work.“I'd much rather profit-share with mission-driven investors than big banks,” Nicole confided. Her crowdfunding approach also amplifies the value of her investors' feedback and insight. With 10 acres under management, Green Compass is poised to continue scaling its mission of transforming urban landscapes into carbon-sequestering havens. Nicole's story of combining ambition, innovation, and environmental stewardship is an inspiring call to action for future-focused entrepreneurs.tl;dr:Nicole Whalen founded Green Compass to address emissions and urban flooding using green infrastructure.Green Compass sells stormwater retention credits to incentivize eco-friendly retrofits for buildings.Efforts include creating rain gardens, tree canopies, and trenches to reduce runoff and beautify cities.Nicole demonstrates fearless problem-solving by building new markets and doubling down on innovative ideas. She's raising funds via Honeycomb Credit, sharing profits with mission-driven investors to scale impact. How to Develop Fearless Problem-Solving As a SuperpowerNicole's superpower lies in her mindset of tackling challenges head-on with the question, “How hard can it be?” She explained, “I walk into challenges not seeing them as insurmountable. Let's figure this out.” This willingness to solve problems with determination and optimism reflects her “lean into change” philosophy, which has steered Green Compass through an unpredictable world. One standout example of this superpower in action is Nicole's adoption of stormwater retention credits as a revenue stream for Green Compass. When she founded the company in 2018, this wasn't part of the plan. But using her knowledge of solar credits, she built a successful model that now accounts for 80% of Green Compass's revenue, surpassing $1 million to date. Her ability to see opportunities in emerging markets has made her company a pioneer in D.C.'s stormwater credit ecosystem. Here are her tips to develop fearless problem-solving as a personal strength:See Change as Opportunity: Lean into uncertainty with faith that new outcomes can be better.Tackle Challenges Efficiently: Stay calm in adversity and focus on finding actionable solutions.Adopt a Growth Mindset: Treat every challenge as a learning experience to build resilience and expertise.Draw Parallels: Apply knowledge from one domain (like solar credits) creatively in other contexts.By following Nicole's example and advice, you can make fearless problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileNicole Whalen (she/her):Founder & CEO, Green Compass LLCAbout Green Compass LLC: Based in Washington DC, Green Compass retrofits commercial and multifamily buildings to fight climate change by deploying:
