The week Rev. Stone returns to our sermon series through the Gospel of Mark. What really defiles a person? Is it things that are external or internal to us? Jesus explains in this passage how sin is mis-located and mis-defined. It shows why we needs God's grace: 1. we all have hearts like the Pharisees, 2. we need to see our brokenness. 3. we go to the cross because there Jesus has supplied the grace we need.

When the Bible speaks of our "heart" it is speaking of the combination of our mind, our will, and our emotions. Christ desires to be the King of our Hearts.
Jesus teaches us that the location of sin is within the heart. Therefore, it's our heart that needs reformed and not our actions.
True Christianity is obeying God from the heart.
Do our traditions cause us to miss the point or highlight it? The point being twofold. First, that we have a heart problem that requires a heart solution. And, secondly, we should avoid any traditional practices that put a stumbling block before others to prevent them from participating in the church life and from hearing and believing the gospel.
