The chair of discovery, the chair of belonging, and the chair of serving—these are the three chairs in the Church. Here is what we know about these chairs: each one is where stories are written, and I love these stories! The stories from the third chair are stories of purpose, of finding people, and of faith that makes life full. The past weekend, we sat in the third chair together and ask, “What could God do?!” First time listening to our podcast? We'd like to get to know you! Head over to: http://bit.ly/connectcardccc. In this episode, I discuss one possibility of what that answer is. This morning, as we begin our season of generosity, our worship will center on the well-known story of the prodigal son from the Gospel of Luke. In telling the parable, Jesus teaches us that faithful generosity springs from relationship -- our relationship with Him, His unending generosity toward us, and the life we share as His body, the Church. We'll see that God's generosity is not earned or calculated; it is a gift that calls us into deeper connection with one another. Join us for worship and be reminded that generosity is not something we do to settle accounts, but the natural fruit of being held in the generous embrace of Christ. Sermon on Luke 15:11-32, delivered by the Reverend David J. Powers on September 14th, 2025.

The world is broken. Cities are bleeding. Families are grieving. And evil is parading through our streets like it owns the place. From churches to schools, from headlines soaked in horror to hearts shattered in silence—our land is crying out for healing. But heaven is sounding a different cry: WAKE UP. In this urgent and unfiltered opening to the Heal Our Land series, Pastor Travis Hearn delivers a prophetic and passionate message that cuts through the noise and calls the Church to rise from spiritual slumber. This is more than a sermon—it's a wake-up call to a sleeping generation. Drawing from Romans 13:11-12, 2 Chronicles 7:14, and Ephesians 5:14, Pastor Travis challenges believers to shake off complacency and step into their true identity, divine responsibility, and holy opportunity. The battle isn't just out there—it's in us. We must wake up to who we are in Christ, live like who we are, and recognize the urgency of this hour. You were born for such a time as this. Not to scroll, but to sow. Not to spectate, but to serve. Not to retreat, but to revive. God is looking for a people who won't just mourn the darkness, but who will shine His light into it. Revival doesn't start in politics. It starts in prayer. It doesn't begin in Washington. It begins in worship. And it doesn't come from the world. It comes from you. The hour has come. The alarm is ringing. It's time to wake up.

Last weekend, we began a new series asking, “What does the church look like?”—the unchanging pieces like Jesus, good stories, and the Spirit. This Sunday, we've got three chairs. They represent people you meet each week. People like you... actually, you. Together, these three chairs tell the story of what God is doing at Cape Cod Church and how you fit into that story. After the service, we also went down to the beach for our annual Beach Baptism Celebration! First time listening to our podcast? We'd like to get to know you! This morning, as we celebrate the official start of the programmatic year with Kickoff Sunday, our worship will be centered on the Book of Acts. In Acts 6, we read about a grievance brought by the Hellenists against the Hebrews in the early church: the Hellenist widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. In response, the Disciples instructed the community to choose seven individuals known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom to take on this responsibility. This moment is widely recognized as the calling of the first deacons of the church—a pivotal step in ensuring that both the physical and spiritual needs of the community were met, even as the Disciples continued to preach the Good News of the Gospel throughout the region. Sermon on Acts 6:1-7, delivered by the Reverend David J. Powers on September 7th, 2025.
Dan is back giving the sermons ahead of Week 1 of the NFL kicking off, he gives a seal of approval, and is joined by Lou Nanne to talk Ken Dryden.
Pastor Jim reflects on Jesus' invitation to “Come and see” in John 1:35–51, emphasizing that God is not a platform, performance, or political position, but a person who invites us into relationship. He explores how the first disciples, ordinary people seeking approval, security, and significance, were met by Jesus not with demands but with an invitation. Through vivid storytelling and personal reflection, Jim reveals how Jesus continues to invite us to journey with Him, revealing both God's identity and our own. Regardless of our skepticism, search, or seasoned faith, the call remains the same: come, follow, and be transformed.
Don't Begrudge God's Generosity to Others - Matthew 19:20-20:16In today's passage we will see Jesus start with the pride of the twelve and rebuke in advance any believer who would judge later believers for not being as much of an ‘OB'(‘original believer') as themselves.Matthew 19:20-20:16The context of the parable: Jesus' teaching on rewards - 19:27-30In the Bible “Fors” and “Therefores” connect the thought we just read with the thought coming.J-O-Y comes from putting Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself third. We might have expected Jesus to blast Peter for self-interest in 19:27. Instead Jesus stated in 19:28 that in the coming “New Genesis,” the Twelve will be uniquely rewarded for following Jesus. Here Jesus teaches that when He reigns on earth, the 12, all of whom were Jewish in background will have special roles judging, or leading, the restored 12 tribes of Israel. (Zecheriah 12-13; Acts 1:6-11; Rev. 19-20).What I love about Matthew 19:29 is that it teaches that anything we might consider to be sacrifices for faithfully serving Jesus are really investments that will be rewarded with a hundred-fold return-on-investment in the ages to come.On the one hand, all believers will be rewarded in ages to come for what they do for Jesus in the age they live in. On the other hand, we should never begrudge other believers for also being generously rewarded. The Master is always adding workers to His great work - 20:1-7Now remember that every parable doesn't teach every aspect of Christian truth. This parable is not telling us how to be saved like John 3:16 & Eph. 2:8-10. Here Jesus is teaching them not to be jealous of other believers. The key thing to notice in the first part of the parable is that God is always looking to add more workers to the work in His vineyard!God invites all believers to appreciate how wonderful grace is - V. 8-15Jesus gave His story this shock ending to rebuke in advance any believer who would judge later believers for not being as much of an ‘OB'(‘original believer') as themselves. Two great applications from the generosity of our Lord:1. Hell really will be awful for all that refuse to repent and turn to Jesus. In comparison, all who believe and go to Heaven will be astoundingly rewarded as they get to live with Jesus forever. Be excited for all who believe, no matter how late they ‘sign up.'2. All who began a work for Christ or become instrumental in part of that work must not treat as second class citizens all those the Lord incudes in the work as it continues on – we will all be in Heaven together.

What if the greatest barrier to your breakthrough… is what you've grown too used to? In this soul-stirring message, Freedom From Familiar, Guest Pastor Darrison Tellez unpacks a powerful moment from Luke 4, where Jesus returns to His hometown—not to comfort the crowd, but to confront their complacency. Though He reads the scroll proclaiming liberty, healing, and freedom, the people reject Him. Why? Because what becomes familiar often becomes dismissed. With piercing insight, Pastor Darrison exposes how the sin of familiarity can rob us of reverence, how church can become a chore instead of a joy, and how the enemy distorts our perception—making captivity feel like liberty, and true liberty feel like a burden. Through scriptures like John 8:36 and Galatians 5:1, we're reminded: freedom is not a feeling—it's a promise. But you have to fight to keep it. You have to resist the pull of old patterns, daily deny yourself, and choose the altar—not just for others, but for you. This is your wake-up call to stop circling the same mountain and step boldly into the freedom Jesus died to give you. It's time to break the chains of the familiar—and walk in the power of the Spirit.

Join Karoline Lewis, Matt Skinner, and Rolf Jacobson for Sermon Brainwave as they dive deep into the lectionary readings for the 16th Sunday After Pentecost (September 28, 2025). In this thought-provoking episode, the hosts explore the parable of the rich man and Lazarus from Luke 16:19-31, examining themes of wealth, justice, and what it truly takes for someone to repent. They discuss how this challenging parable connects to broader themes in Luke's Gospel, from the Sermon on the Plain to stories of transformation like Zacchaeus. The conversation also covers the prophetic voices of Amos 6:1a-4,7 and the surprising hope found in Jeremiah 32:1-3a, 6-15, where the prophet makes a remarkable act of faith by purchasing land while Jerusalem is under siege. The hosts conclude with reflections on Psalm 146 and 1 Timothy 6:6-19, exploring the early church's ongoing struggles with wealth and Christian living.
