Send us a textIn this episode, we see that friendship and loathing truly are two sides of the same coin. While everything is collapsing for Eric and Yasmin personally, professionally, and morally, Harper is finally ascending into her full power --- at both of their expense. We finally learn what really happened to Yasmin's dad, drawing uncomfortable parallels to chilling real-world headlines. And speaking of real-world headlines, Pierpoint's descent evokes the ghosts of Lehman Brothers and the 2008 global financial crisis. Harper's emergence as the architect of a potentially catastrophic short of the bank's stock shatters the fragile friendship between her and Yasmin. And Eric's failures to be a proper father figure to the "women in his life" help force the central question of the episode: are these characters in fact becoming the worst things they fear about themselves? Or were these monsters always lurking beneath the surface, waiting for their moment to strike? It isn't all steak and martinis...get caught up on your favorite show with us before Season 4 drops in January!Learn more about 9fin HERE Shop our Self Paced Courses: Investment Banking & Private Equity Fundamentals HEREFixed Income Sales & Trading HERE Wealthfront.com/wss. Like so many, Pam Krooth, LCSW, spent years trying not to get pregnant, only to find herself aching for the thing she once assumed would come easily. What followed was a long, emotional road marked by pain, heartbreak, and the slow, painful shift between expectation and reality. Throughout Pam's story, we see how the path to the family she hoped for looked nothing like what she once imagined, and how hard it was when the timing was out of her control. After infertility, postpartum depression, and a miraculous adoption, she found her way to a different kind of motherhood, which reminds us to stay open to the many ways a family can be created, because the unexpected path can sometimes lead somewhere even more beautiful. This raw, honest conversation reminds us that there isn't one way to become a parent, and that every path, however unexpected, is miraculous. More about Pam Krooth: Pam Krooth is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who resides in Maryland with her husband, two children and French Bulldog. She is the mother of a biological and adopted child. She is currently on the Board of Directors at The Lab School of Washington, DC, an independent private school for children with language based learning differences. What can slicing a watermelon teach us about design? Turns out… quite a lot. This week, I chat with Vitaly Friedman, founder of Smashing Magazine, to explore curiosity, inefficiency, and why the best designers obsess over process, not perfection. What if your next design breakthrough came not from a book or a course, but from learning to slice a watermelon?Vitaly Friedman has spent decades shaping how designers think about the web. But in this conversation, we go beyond pixels and patterns to talk about something much more profound: how curiosity itself becomes a design tool. From choosing the perfect watermelon to mastering the art of ironing, Vitaly reveals how everyday obsessions can teach us how to think, learn, and design better. We explore how designers can reclaim joy and curiosity in their work, especially in environments where efficiency and productivity often come at the expense of creativity. Vitaly's take? It's not about finding the perfect way to do something—it's about exploring many ways and discovering meaning in the process. From grilled watermelons to enterprise UX, we connect the dots between experimentation, self-learning, and the messy human side of design. If you've ever felt stuck chasing “best practices” or trying to find the “right” answer, this episode will remind you that sometimes, the most valuable thing you can do is play.Topics:• 03:39 – The Watermelon Metaphor• 05:37 – Choosing the Perfect Watermelon• 09:19 – Cutting Techniques and Presentation• 13:34 – Grilling Watermelon and Culinary Creativity• 14:28 – Learning and Self-Education• 15:13 – The Journey of Exploration• 18:28 – Imposter Syndrome and Asking for Help• 22:00 – Humanizing Executives and Stakeholders• 22:48 – The Importance of Curiosity• 25:34 – Ironing and Finding Zen• 30:01 – The Role of Enjoyment in Learning• 31:35 – Procrastination and Productivity• 33:46 – Procrastination and Focus• 34:48 – Memorable Conference Experience• 37:08 – Finding Joy in Enterprise UX Design• 38:50 – Challenges in Enterprise Projects• 41:35 – Building Trust and Team Culture• 50:50 – Balancing Exploration and DeliveryHelpful Links:• Connect with Vitaly on LinkedIn• Smashing Magazine• Design Patterns For AI Interfaces—Thanks for listening! Since early September, President Trump has ordered the U.S. military to conduct multiple lethal strikes on boats in the Caribbean Sea suspected of drug trafficking, resulting in at least 21 deaths. These unprecedented military actions raise critical questions about the identity of those targeted, the Administration's legal justification, and the scope of presidential power to designate “terrorists” and authorize lethal force. This special September Sunday episode is a deep breath for weary and wondering parents. Ginny welcomes author and podcaster Maeve Jemison to dismantle the most persistent homeschool myths—socialization, schedules, screens, “I'm not patient enough,” “we both work,” single parenting homeschool, and more—and to show why home can be the ultimate individualized education plan. Maeve shares how she pulled her daughter mid-year, moved from all-online to books on the couch, and discovered what so many families eventually see: kids thrive when we protect curiosity, right-size academics, build life skills, and make room for joy. It's practical, eye-opening, and deeply affirming—exactly the reset you need heading into a new homeschool week. You'll leave with concrete, calming takeaways: flexible rhythms that work for dual-income and single-parent homes, why functional literacy doesn't require full-time school hours, and how embracing many ways to be smart unlocks confidence for every learner. This conversation is part of our September Sunday series designed to help you start each week steady and supported. Listen, share with a friend who's on the fence, and keep the encouragement coming. • Get Maeve's book: Home Is Where the Truth Is: Why You Can and Should Homeschool Your Child • Listen to Maeve's podcast: Homeschooling for Catholic Parents — Listen on Amazon Music Learn more about your ad choices. New Hope UMC Sunday Sermon Podcast

God Never Said There Are Many Ways to Heaven confronts the increasingly popular idea of universalism—the belief that all roads lead to God. Pastor Vicki Harrison compassionately challenges this with Scripture, grounding her message in John 14:6, where Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This isn't just a comforting verse—it's an exclusive claim of divine truth. The sermon reminds us that bad theology leads to bad decision-making and distorted views of God, often fueled by cultural narratives rather than Biblical truth. While acknowledging the emotional and intellectual tension this topic can raise, Pastor Vicki holds fast to the truth that Jesus is not one way—He is the way. Hell is addressed not as a scare tactic, but as a sobering reality: a place devoid of God's presence. Rather than arguing about who's in or out, we're invited to focus on our responsibility—to reach the world for Jesus Christ by sharing the Gospel (Matthew 28:19). If you're wrestling with exclusivity, doubt, or injustice, you're not alone. The message closes by calling us to trust in God's wisdom (Isaiah 55:9) and live out our belief that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Are your actions demonstrating that belief?

Customers decide what they want to buy, and private enterprise responds to that need. So what makes government think that it's smarter than capitalism? Why offer tax breaks to Hollywood or incentives to build silicon chip factories in Arizona? Why those industries and not others? And when does the free market fail and need government to step in? Today, we discuss what happens when the government really wants to get its hands dirty and shape the direction of the economy, even decide which companies should prosper and which ones should fail, through industrial policy. The series is hosted by Robert Smith and produced by Eric Mennel. Rome’s Western Empire may have fallen 1,600 years ago, but its cultural impact has a radioactive half-life that would make xenon jealous. Over a billion people speak Latin (or at least a Latin-derived language). Governments around the world self-consciously copy Roman buildings and create governments that copy the imperial senate. Every self-aggrandizing leader has compared himself to Caesar, including those with a strong claim (Charlemagne and Napoleon) and those with a weaker one (Idi Amin and Muammer Gaddafi). But what if the Roman Empire never truly fell? This is the perspective of today’s guest, Aldo Cazzullo, author of “The Neverending Empire: The Infinite Impact of Ancient Rome. Rome’s influence is not just a relic of history—it’s the foundation of the modern West and nowhere is that more evident than in the United States. While many political empires throughout history have presented themselves as the true heirs of Rome, Cazzullo contends that it’s the US, that most resembles the Roman Empire. It’s an angle with which to view America’s story/where it’s heading and most importantly, what we can learn to ensure that we can look forward to another 3000 years.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

One staggering statistic? It's been estimated that by the start of the 1800s, the disease had killed one in seven people who had ever lived. Because of this, tuberculosis affected human culture, geography, and fashion—and even killed off some of literature and media's most famous heroines. While TB incidence has gone down tremendously in the United States, it remains a massive issue in low-resource nations. About 1.25 million people die of TB each year, making it still the deadliest infectious disease in the world.Author John Green explores humankind's relationship with TB in the new book Everything is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection.
