In a new book, author John Green traces how the disease has impacted culture, geography, and even fashion over the centuries.Tuberculosis (TB) has had an incredibly large impact on human history. One staggering statistic? It's been estimated that by the start of the 1800s, the disease had killed one in seven people who had ever lived. Because of this, tuberculosis affected human culture, geography, and fashion—and even killed off some of literature and media's most famous heroines. While TB incidence has gone down tremendously in the United States, it remains a massive issue in low-resource nations. About 1.25 million people die of TB each year, making it still the deadliest infectious disease in the world.Author John Green explores humankind's relationship with TB in the new book Everything is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection. Green speaks with Host Flora Lichtman about how TB's path reflects our society and culture. He joins us from Indianapolis, Indiana.Transcript for this segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. Subscribe to this podcast. Bob Motta On The MANY Ways Karen Read And Her Team Are Destroying Their Credibility & Case Could Karen Read's own words be her biggest legal misstep yet? The courtroom drama surrounding the alleged killing of Boston police officer John O'Keefe takes another sharp, bizarre turn as Defense Attorney Bob Motta unpacks the latest from the pre-trial chaos on Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski. From dramatic courtroom walk-ins that feel ripped out of a soap opera, to prosecutors chasing down data like it's hidden in the final boss level of a video game, this episode covers it all. We dive into the surprising hearing involving Aiden Carney, explore how Karen Read's new phone might become a fresh headache, and examine the defense's baffling approval of a documentary that may contain more self-incriminating commentary than a late-night drunk text. And let's not forget the origin story of the conspiracy theory that's somehow become central to the case—it involves a gravelly-voiced mystery man and a narrative twist worthy of a Netflix pitch meeting. Each episode shares the expertise of K-State specialists in fields such as child nutrition, food safety, adult development and aging, youth development, family resource management, physical fitness and more. Send comments, questions or requests for copies of past programs to ksrenews@ksu.edu. When someone is accustomed to neglect, receiving kindness can feel confusing, uncomfortable and even suspicious... leading them to push it away. One may also doubt the sincerity of the gesture or feel unworthy of it. This can be due to a lack of experience with positive interactions often stemming from past trauma. You may essentially, not have the emotional tools to recognize and accept genuine kindness when it's offered. #Pitfalls Of Trauma
"Job, you've been demanding a hearing before God. You've said He won't answer you. But what if He's been speaking this whole time—and you just haven't recognized His voice?" That's the challenge Elihu brings in Job 33. He steps forward, claiming he has something new to say—something Job's friends failed to understand. Elihu insists that God does answer people, but not always in the ways they expect. Sometimes He speaks through dreams, sometimes through suffering, sometimes through a mediator who intercedes on our behalf. Is Elihu on the right track? Speaking of a mediator, does he have Jesus in mind? The Rev. Jacob Hercamp, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Noblesville, IN, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Job 33. Why do the righteous suffer? That's the burning question at the heart of the book of Job—one of the most profound and challenging books in all of Scripture. From a Lutheran perspective, Job's story isn't just about a man enduring unimaginable hardship; it's about wrestling with God's will, grappling with well-meaning but misguided advice, and ultimately finding comfort in God's grace rather than human understanding. As Job's friends offer simplistic answers, Job demands the truth, and God's response reminds us of His infinite wisdom and mercy. Through it all, we see glimpses of Christ—the truly innocent sufferer—who redeems our pain and points us to the cross, where suffering meets salvation. Join us as we journey through Job, confronting tough questions about faith, suffering, and God's mysterious ways with hope grounded in Christ alone. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Mexican drug cartels have a long history of infiltrating various businesses to diversify their income streams and legitimize their illicit wealth. Here is a summary of how they have accomplished this:Money Laundering: Cartels often use legitimate businesses, such as restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, to launder their drug profits. They commingle drug money with the revenue from these businesses, making it difficult for authorities to trace the illegal funds.Front Companies: Cartels establish front companies, which appear to be legal entities engaged in legitimate activities. These companies can include construction firms, agricultural enterprises, or even real estate ventures. The primary purpose is to provide a cover for their criminal operations.Corruption: Cartels corrupt law enforcement officials, politicians, and public servants to protect their interests and facilitate their operations. Bribery and coercion are common tactics used to ensure cooperation from authorities.Transportation and Logistics: They infiltrate the transportation industry, including trucking companies and cargo services, to facilitate the movement of drugs across borders. They also manipulate shipping routes to hide drug shipments in legal cargo.Extortion: Cartels often extort money from local businesses, threatening violence or harm if business owners do not comply. This provides a significant source of income while instilling fear in the community.Mining and Natural Resources: Some cartels are involved in illegal mining and extraction of natural resources, such as precious metals or timber. They use these activities to launder money and fund their operations.Agriculture: Cartels may control large swaths of agricultural land, where they grow illegal crops like marijuana and poppies for drug production. They sometimes disguise these operations as legal farming activities.Retail and Wholesale: Cartels may infiltrate the retail and wholesale distribution of legal products. They can use their influence to control supply chains and distribution networks, which can include food, beverages, and consumer goods.Money Exchange and Financial Services: They may operate their own money exchange or remittance businesses to move money across borders and circumvent financial regulations.Real Estate: Cartels invest in real estate, including luxury properties and land acquisitions, as a way to park their illicit wealth and generate additional income through rentals and sales.Protection Rackets: Cartels offer "protection" services to local businesses, forcing them to pay regular fees in exchange for safety from cartel-related violence. This is another form of extortion.Cybercrime: Some cartels have ventured into cybercrime, engaging in activities such as hacking and online fraud to generate revenue and launder money. The infiltration of these various sectors allows Mexican drug cartels to diversify their income streams, legitimize their wealth, and maintain a strong grip on the communities in which they operate.(commercial at 11:40)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:From chickens to cabs: Drug cartels expand across the Mexican economy | Economy and Business | EL PAÍS English (elpais.com)

If that sounds like you, then you're not alone, and in this episode, we are diving into this very issue.I've got a solution that's all about exploring different angles to promote your opt-in effectively. Buckle up because we are going to explore 10 fresh ways to get those sign-ups rolling!Let's do it!Freshen up to promote your opt-inIf you've gone to all the effort of creating an opt in, I want you to get the maximum number of people signed up for it as possible. But, how do you do it?!I'm willing to guess everyone has faced this challenge before, where you feel like you have shared promos for your freebie, promoted all you can, but it's just not getting traction. Often, the real reason it's not working is because you are just using the same kind of content over and over to promote it.Generally I see one of two things happen:1. There are four or five different promos that just get copy-pasted all over the internet (which start to get penalised for being duplicate content, and people tire of quickly)2. In order to keep changing things up, AI is used to generate promos, but they start to read like every other promo online. What I want to do with this episode is to help you inject some fresh life into your promotional strategy.Let me know your thoughts via our Text FanMail!
Technically, my life didn't start out fatherless. A lot of people grew up in a house where a father was in it but not involved in a healthy way. That was mine, he made sure he checked the boxes of what he assumed a man was. I never got a chance to ask him, who taught you how to show up as a man? Who were the examples you had of what it took to be a dad? My dad passed when I was 18... my saddest moments about him happened 3 years prior.I can speak on this topic very well, I hope fathers who want better for their kids choose different.
