DIZNEY COAST TO COAST - The Ultimate Unofficial Disney Fan Podcast
Disney fans rejoice! Listen as I chat with Tom K. Morris who was an Imagineer for well over thirty years. He started working for The Walt Disney Company as a balloon seller at Disneyland which eventually led him to working on a whole slew of projects including the opening of EPCOT, the opening of Disneyland Paris, and the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland. When Tom began his work at Imagineering, then WED Enterprises, he was working alongside some of the Disney Legends that helped create Disneyland. Also, considering Tom's long tenure with the company, he worked with quite a few different sets of management and corporate leaders at Imagineering and The Walt Disney Company. Listen as he shares his honest thoughts and stories about all of that. Plus, if you've ever enjoyed riding a roller coaster with synchronized sound, you have Tom to thank. Tom K. Morris, former Creative Development Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, led an impressive 35-year career with WED. Working at Walt Disney Imagineering from 1980 until 2016, Tom helped to develop attractions like Journey Into Imagination, Star Tours, Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris, and Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park. Tom also served as an executive producer for Hong Kong Disneyland, and he helped develop concepts for attractions like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster: Starring Aerosmith and DisneyQuest. There is so much history to uncover about Disney’s theme parks, especially the more distant past. We’ve heard many of the stories about the work of the Imagineers at WED on the 1964 World’s Fair, Walt Disney World, and beyond. But what about the time before those big moments?… Read more... Tom K Morris, like many kids in the 70’s, saved up his money from a paper route. Unlike everyone else, he took that money and went to the opening of Disney World - by himself. That determination would serve Tom through the years as he joined Imagineering and found himself working on all sorts of memorable projects. Tom chats with Nathan about helping legends like Claude Coats and Marc Davis design World of Motion, creating the layout for Journey Into Imagination, and taking on one of the most important projects any Imagineer could - an actual Disney castle.
