This week, Len Testa and Jim Hill dig into one of the strangest goofs in Disney history—how the restaurant inside Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom was originally named after the wrong king, and why it took over two decades (and a flood of guest complaints) to finally correct it. Also in this episode: The King Stefan Banquet Hall Backstory – Why Imagineering picked the wrong king in the first place—and how nobody caught it before opening day. Dave Smith and John Hench's Awkward Phone Call – The archivist and the Imagineer have a polite, slightly painful conversation about medieval royalty. The 25th Anniversary Castle Cake Fallout – Why complaints about the Pepto-Bismol pink castle pushed Disney to rethink the restaurant's name. How Cinderella's Royal Table Was Finally Born – And how it became one of the most popular (and profitable) restaurants in all of Walt Disney World. Listener Questions and More – Updates on Disney and Universal surveys, Lightning Lane changes, and Epic Universe tips. It's a story of castles, kings, and the longest game of "whoops" in Disney Parks history. Mr. Toad moved to Florida for the opening of Walt Disney World... but he was never meant to be there. In this episode of Distory, we hop on over to the Magic Kingdom and explore the history behind why Mr. Toad became part of (yet another) Fantasyland. Along the way, we discuss Rolly Crump (the lead Imagineer of this version) and hear his take on the design of the Magic Kingdom and life in general so that we can more fully understand his work within this iconic attraction. After a thorough look around the exterior and queue, including comparing it to the Disneyland versions both past and present, we find some long-lost WED documents, analyze some changing motorcar designs, and debate the design choices of the character flats on either side of the two tracks. We finally come to a screeching halt just before entering Toad Hall to allow plenty of time in future episodes to dig into every detail we can find that made this classic ride so delightfully weird and wonderful.Join us LIVE on YouTube every Thursday at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern for more Distory!Kate's Youtube: @disneyciceroneYou can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, and at disneycicerone.com & walruscarp.comView full video versions of each episode at Disney Cicerone's YouTube channel HERE OR on the Spotify version of our podcast.Distory T-shirts and StickersKate's SubstackKate's books on AmazonWalrusCarp T-shirts & MerchMOWD app

Hey Ohana, We're starting a new series of episodes this week called Blue Sky Imagineering (or BSI for short) in which we invite friends from the Ohana to join us and put on our "armchair Imagineer " hard hats on to dream up things that we'd love to see come to the parks. Whether they are out of thin air or based on a Disney announcement we'll share the details of what we hope to enjoy when we visit our favorite place. On this week's episode we're joined by our good friends Megan Kirsch and Chris Blagg to design the new Pirate's theme lounge coming to Adventureland in Magic Kingdom this year! From how you enter to the lounge, to the drinks you can order, we came up with some pretty fun ideas (in our humble opinion lol). After giving it a listen, continue the conversation by heading over to our FB group and letting us know what YOU hope to see in the new Pirates Lounge! Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. The Reflections DVC resort might not be dead after all, it's just getting a new name. Plus the Disney Treasure had its official christening and we were hyped for the accompanying drone show. This week, we are delighted to be joined once again by Bob Weis, former President of Walt Disney Imagineering, to discuss his newest book, Ghost Dog. The story combines Bob's love of the Haunted Mansion and everyone's love of dogs to answer the question, what if a ghost (dog) really did follow you home? Plus, since we don't know the next time we'll have the chance to talk to an Imagineer, we ask some of our more obscure ride questions and Angela pitches her Escape from Elephant Graveyard attraction idea. Skull Rock Podcast is powered by Riverside.fm. Click HERE and start making great podcasts today! Episode #213 features a chat about the new book, How Does Disney Do That? with authors James Warda and Imagineer Theron Skees. For many of us, why is every third photo at home from a Disney Park and every fifth kitchen towel covered in those famous ears? And what lies behind not only children, but adults, crying as Bambi looks for his mother or upon seeing Cinderella's Castle for the first time? Most of all, how does Disney make us feel this way? And why are these questions so important, especially now? Because, in answering them, in hearing from those who evoke these feelings through a powerful mixture of “method and magic,” we learn not only why we love Disney but why, if Disney didn't exist, we would need to create it. We also learn more about ourselves and each other along the way. How Does Disney Do That?: How Disney Makes Us Feel and Why It Matters will answer these questions, and more, through heartfelt and hopeful stories from Disney fans, and those who create the experiences. As a Walt Disney Imagineer, Brian Collins, helped create the stories and magic for some of the world's most beloved theme park attractions. So I'm late with this podcast. I'd like to blame Hurricane Helene, but in truth it really just brought things to a standstill, without even really touching the greater Orlando area. But it did give me a chance to cuddle up to my new favorite book Dream Chasing: My Four Decades of Success and Failure with Walt Disney Imagineering by Bob Weis and foreword by Bob Iger. This is an amazing book, and I wanted to draw from it and a few other resources to share the experience of bringing Tokyo Disney to life. People talk about how amazing the Tokyo Disney Resort is. But for all of the resorts world-wide, it has some of the least shared stories. This podcast imparts some of those stories from Bob's eyes, as a newly hired Imagineer brought to create this park from the ground up to the creation of Tokyo DisneySea years later.
